Navas deserves his place in the team, because he’s proved it time and time again. We don’t know how much longer both Gomezes have in their career. I’d rather spend the same amount of money on young, untried players, because at least they have the time to get into the rhythm of things. I mean look at Barcelona. They have had old players on long contracts not doing anything for their club and end up letting them go for free or something. I don’t want this club to go down the same path

It’s not that I’m writing him off I’m just saying we need a better transfer market strategy if we seriously want to win the league title. I’m sure he will be a good player for the club

If this was Fifa I would agree with @RmanNERD. I only sign players under 25 haha. I like the signing and we can also move on if we need to. The investment isn’t so large that some other team wouldn’t take him off our hands if things go south.

His performances at Atalanta showed he still has a good few years in him yet. If he can settle, I have no doubt he will be key for the next 2 seasons at least. If we want to be competitive in all competitions, we need good depth and also some more experience in that squad.

I think this is a typical Monchi signing, an opportunity has come out of nowhere to get a top class player and he’s taken it.
As far as developing a team of young players in the hope we win the league in 2 or 3 seasons I think that’s wishful thinking.
In my opinion if we are going to win the league it will be because all of the cards fall our way and we happen to have a consistent team of players who are giving their all for every game.

If we want to win the league we need to beat the big three, namely R.Madrid, Barca and Atletico. We don’t have a win against one of them for a long time now. The last I remember was 3-0 win against RM.

Me too. I was hyped in the summer because I thought we were definitely going to use the Europa League momentum and carry it through to the league, but as you mentioned the Granada, Eibar, and Bilbao loss really killed our league title ambitions

100% agree. Pozo can challenge Navas at right back, he is just like him in playing style so I think that would be a good idea, and Gil is just phenomenal. If Ocampos keeps misfiring next season, Gil should start over him

I felt like we could as well at the start but we are just not far enough yet. Out of the blue with an insane streak like Leicester we could have done it but we are not that much of a machine. Also Atlético is just further and better than us so yeh it was some wishful thinking but if some more things went our way we easily would have been up there still so I believe coming years we can challenge them up there. This was THE season tho with the big two in shambles. It’s up to them, if they recover well coming years it will be another hegemony where we fall out of it. But we are doing what we can to catch up. See if we can make it a bit further.

Also nice presentation for Papu, I’m excited we pulled of signing him. It was a beautiful thing to see, when he did a Q & A in Atalanta years back, he chose his favourite team in Spain, was Sevilla. Really beautiful. The type of player I would buy a shirt of, if our collar this season didn’t suck I might have haha. Also he is best buddies with Lucas Ocampos so maybe Papu can help get the best out of him again.

Out of the first two groups, I’d only keep Sergi Gomez (as the 3rd or 4th defender) and Vidal - even that not 100% sure. Maybe one more season if he proves himself by the end of this season as he keeps replacing Navas. They both have contracts until 2022 and I doubt we’d get any interesting offer for them so keep them for one more season and let them go on free at the end of 2021-22.
Pozo and Gil are very interesting prospects. I except Gil to make the team (as a sub at least) but time will tell.

With the way Rekik plays at LB, Sergi would be able to do that or even better as he’s a bit faster in overall. But if we’ll go with 3 defenders for the next season I’d keep Kounde (obvious) and DC - sell Sergi and Rekik and get a serious defender that can challenge for the first spot, while we’d have Fernando and Gudelj (if he stays) as back-ups just in case.

Rekik hasn’t exactly been given a lot of chances to play in his natural position, I think we should give him a slide for this season
