Good result for us!
Well… Result wise it okay. Considering we were the better team for about 85 minutes. Kind of bitter, we couldn´t get more out of it than a plain 0-0. I take it nonetheless. But this Chelsea is a work in progress too, some great talent that has to find their place and play together, which they are far from right now. But considering we came from a loss at Granada as well, its a plus.
Damn, navas grabbing his groin.
A good point and solid defense. But man, the goal threat is seriously lacking. (Same for Chelsea to be fair, but they have the player)
We’re gonna have to get used to games like this (if we haven’t already.) With Jordán missing this weekend, at least we’ll see a different midfield.
Amen to that…Ocampos is overselling every bit of contact. Refs are not blind and know who falls at the slightest touch.
You idiot, we were superior for 93 minutes
I can’t complain about that result. Defense held together well and some promising chances on the other end. Hopefully we just looked quiet because of the strength of the opponent. If we played like this against Chelsea, Rennes should be no trouble. I liked what I saw from Acuña today. I’m confident some of those crosses will get poked in soon enough.
We have only ourselves to blame for not beating Chelsea (same as vs. Barca). With this kind of play, we can hold every ‘tough’ team to a draw with a bit of luck. However, playing for a draw (a.k.a. being toothless up front) does not win you matches, does not make you a big team and does not win you trophies. The luck will eventually run out (like vs. Granada) and then what?
Very conservative play with no real threat up front. Rakitic is not cutting it. Why is Oscar not getting minutes? Gudelj surprised us for the good, but that’s an anomaly at this point - he’s still not very trusted with the ball, though defensively-speaking he did the job perfectly. How come is Oliver Torres getting minutes before Oscar? How come is Mudo even considered as a sub? Many questions raised for Lope.
A decent team knows how to win these kind of games, especially when you are clearly the better side throughout the match.
The first half saw us play some exciting football, at least with the build up, but then it faded away almost completely in the second half and Chelsea started to believe. Another team would’ve punished us, we can’t rely on luck all the time.
Also now that Gomez is injured (pulled hamstring I suppose) and it will take him at least 1 week to recover, could be 2 - time to see what Rekik is made of in the next 2 matches.
It’s getting very irritating to watch Ocampos try and get a foul of every encounter with an opponent after failing to win the duels. He needs to learn to play it simple, once and for all, or it will cost us.
Oh yeah, Acuna was IMMENSE! Could turn out to be the best signing for us this season, just waiting on Idrissi to see how he’ll fare with us.
Perhaps time for him to rest for at least 2 matches, which is around 1.5 weeks anyway.
Game summary;-
Chelsea looked average, Sevilla were the team that looked impressive.
I agree with folks saying the goal threat was lacking today… but do you think Sevilla could’ve increased offensive pressure without sacrificing some defense? Perhaps I’m being too kind here, but I worry that crashing the net might have opened up some easily-exploitable holes for Chelsea.
Rene in New Jersey, how are you doing?
Jordan might be here next season !
If Jordan would have scored that volley tho, damn I´d gone through the roof. If we need miracle goals to win anyway, where is the miracle maker Munir indeed?
ha! hey Tim! not sure why it says im in Jersey (im actually in DC). but im good. coronavirus giving me an excuse to recommit to watching games after just having life distracting me from what’s really important (Sevilla) the last few seasons
nice to see a lot of the old people along with a slew of new ones. hat tip to you all.
Also the result of Rennes and Krasnodar is good, it prevents one of them getting another lucky win if Chelsea or us fail or draw again, and so it could have gotten close. Them sharing points, isn´t in both of their favour imo.
Meritocracy. Same situation why Nolito got so many starts last season. Lope will eventually let things evolve naturally.
The interesting thing is that he can’t simply create a starting XI full of fringe players because we’re playing Qarabag midweek. Every one of these games will be tough, and whichever player gets the minutes will have to earn ‘em.
Ok, but I don’t see how Oliver Torres or Mudo contribute to the game… they’re slow and not very creative. Oscar seems to have some tricks up his sleeve, if you don’t try you never know right?
