Monchi out - Orta In

That’s completely reasonable though. Both things can happen at the same time.

Mendilibar is focused on the “now.” He may not think that he can be successful next season with a lot of players from la cantera.

Orta has to be focused on the longer term. He can focus on youth development for the future while still giving Mendilibar the veteran playmakers he wants next season.

I think we could probably spin this into a “sporting director” thread. Keep it open for discussion about team management that doesn’t necessarily fit into the transfer post.

I guess it’s because Sevilla don’t have a lot of Cantera to rely upon? The talent pool is pretty dry with only a few prospects who have a legit chance to make it to the first team. Mendi only has a short contract so would want to maximise what he can utilize. The money is there, up to the two to iron something out.

I’m totally open to changing the title of this thread, any ideas?

Edit: the new title makes it sound like we were all chanting for Monchi to leave

do we think Monchi will try to pry anyone from Sevilla to AV? Wouldn’t seem likely, but wonder if he had his eye on anyone in particular.

Not sure what Villa needs, but i wouldn’t mind a Nzonzi style deal (€40M+) for En-Nesyri. As long as it’s not too late.

Unlikely, as mentioned earlier this AV squad is younger and more talented than Sevilla by quite a fair margin. They just added Pau Torres, him and a healthy Diego Carlos is scary.

Interesting comments from Mendilibar.

So, reviving the Monchi thread. The drip drip has officially begun. Isco tells his side of the Sevilla exit:

So Chris, it’s certainly not the P, but rather the jugular. Isco claims Monchi got violent with him and was the source of all the rumors around town saying Isco wanted out. Not sure what you all think of Isco’s credibility here, I am curious whether Monchi will respond, because his nearly impeccable reputation certainly takes a hit here.

We’ll see if the second half of the interview tomorrow has any other bombshells for Sevilla world, but I personally feel like whatever hit Monchi’s reputation takes here, I don’t see anything really making Sevilla look bad, per se. He sort throws a bit of a dart by saying “well, Monchi chokes me and no one in the club does or says anything”, but it doesn’t seem like there was much you could expect the club to do in that situation. Not going to say “our biggest star was choked by our biggest non player star”, not going to fire Monchi, so I don’t really feel like I can blame the management for staying mum.

On the bright side for Monchi, if there’s anyone that is REALLY embarrassed by this interview, it’s Union Berlin. If Isco’s account bears out or isn’t credibly refuted by the club, I suspect very few reputable players will want to join their project for quite some time.

Beat me to it. I was about to post this.

He played his last match in the first round of the Copa Del Rey, then shit went to hell. I think Mr. Isco is leaving out some things.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing the whole time I was reading. Hoping someone reports the whole story. I think the Madrid press is enjoying dumping on Monchi and Sevilla while they can.

MARCA didn’t miss the chance to ask Monchi about the infamous chokehold incident.

https://www.marca.com/futbol/premier-league/2023/08/05/64ce4374268e3ebe4d8b45b8.html

Our namesake didn’t really deny it, and basically said “why is he bringing up old shit?

I think the implicit suggestion from Monchi wasn’t just “why is he bringing it up?” but also “ehem ehem, interesting timing for him to stay quiet when he did and suddenly talk when he did” ie. he knew he could curry favor with :poop: with his interview.

Hey Sevilla fans - a warning from a Leeds fan

Just wanted to let you know what’s happening to Leeds thanks to Victor orta

He signed a lot of mostly bad players for big money. A couple of successes and around 10% were good signings

The players were allegedly then given a clause in their contract which now means many have been allowed to leave for free because we got relegated. Or they would have terribly low release clause value.

Think we’ve lost 10+ first teamers for nothing and we put out a mainly youth side on Saturday. Other decent players want to leave because of the exodus he caused .

We’ve not overspent in the premier league but losing 10 first teamers for nothing is just too much to take for any team

Fans of Leeds really don’t like what orta has done to the club. The only thing he ever got right was hire bielsa. Bielsa succeeded despite orta not because of him as the players were mostly awful that he signed

The other 3 or 4 coaches he hired were also terrible

We went from beautiful bielsaball to Jesse march kick and run. A terrible manager and philosophy. Orta stuck by him until he finally got sacked. We were leaking around 80+ goals a season

The guy should not be anywhere near an important job and great name like Sevilla.

Be warned

Best of luck with your season

Hi @Leedsfan and welcome. Interesting to hear about Bielsa, he’s got a reputation of being a philosopher and playing attractive football, highly respected by players but something always goes pear shaped and he falters.

i think it’s quite normal that top playes have exit clauses in case the team is relegated but interesting comments about Orta and the contracts.

Just an idea but why don’t you start supporting Sevilla as at least your second team? We’ve got a boatload of UEFA trophies, 5 out of the last 11.

I always keep an eye out since I visited your amazing city

What he’s done at Leeds is extraordinary bad and not the norm at all. Compare us to Leicester or Southampton who also went down. They are much better off than us despite being both being in debt. Both sold players for there actual value not given away free

Imagine most of your first team going for free at the end of your season due to bad contract work.

What he’s done is astoundingly bad

Add to that he can’t pick coaches or players

Really think you guys have no idea what’s about to hit you with orta though

Best of luck. You’ll need it

Appreciate the warning. If you ask Roma fans, Monchi was also the worst sporting director in the history of the club, and yet SevillaFC turned his “worst” into two trophies since his return. Hopefully we can similarly rehabilitate Orta into a respectable name.

Thanks for the warning. I feel if things go South fast he will be one of many that won’t last long. If we get massive changes in board with Castro going I can see everything changing again.

We need it to be honest as we have a very aging squad, players coming to end of their contracts and just spme poor players or deadwood remaining…

Hopefully orta doesn’t repeat the same thing but if he does we will be in a world of pain considering we already not in a great place on his arrival.

We will just have to see how things go but I have a feeling Castro is not lasting much longer so big changes will come at Sevilla FC.

It is a shame what’s happened to Leeds and I hope you bounce back. I’m from Sunderland in UK so I hope both of us will bounce back and get in the premier league again in the future. Peace out man!

for now we are on schedule to reach about 100+ goals conceded, topping the Leeds stats. Just some early ideas, with just having passed a relatively easy schedule.

And in other news, Viktor Orta accused of calling Gil Manzano by his real name. “Cagón”. Where the sevilla media person said it didn’t happen and there are plenty of witnesses. All in all, another fun case the comite will like to discuss to put us on the blackest of blacklists. The report also describing the ‘se acabo’ shirts, cementing that position.

Honestly I am so excited to see what happens this coming week and the rest of the season. I think we are in for a ride.

Good Day to Everyone on the Site

I too am a Leeds fan and a here to follow the deteriorating relationship you will have with Orta over time. I will try to sum up with a little more detail than posted previously by another Leeds supporter.

Orta was brought into the club in 2017 by Radrizzani when we were in the Championship. His role was Sporting Director. The fanbase were very wary as he had taken a lot of criticism in his role at Middlebrough, especially over the quality of player signed after they were promoted

In hindsight it appears Radrizzani had decent funds for competing at that level but appeared to have little idea about how football worked. He handed almost complete control over to Orta for managerial and player appointments. The aim appeared to be to have success whilst making money and Orta signed endless cheap players who had growth potential. They ere punts and with all signings of that type, the odd ones work but the majority fail. Klich and Allioski worked.

His managerial appointments started with Thomas Christiansen. His CV looked patchy and could best be described as a punt. The team started paying good football but as soon as they were rumbled he had little idea how to turn it around, He lasted 8 months. We then employed Paul Heckingbottom who had led lower league Barnsley but joined us during a really bad run of form his team were on. He had a good reputation as a young coach but it looked a strange appointment and he was totally out of his depth. He lasted 4 months.

LUFC are a hard team to manage, traditionally a top 6 club - we should really be on a par with Liverpool but have been horribly managed off the field since 1975 - with a lot of expectation. Experienced tough managers are those who have success with us and Bielsa fitted the bill.

Orta scored big time here. I am 60 now and Bielsa was outstanding. The football played was the best I have seen in my lifetime but Bielsa as a character is incredible. His intelligence and morals in life affected players, the whole fanbase and the club. He dragged us all to a new place. I had never seen a coach transform average players to play such confident attacking football. You may have seen similar with Bilbao when he was there.

He led us to promotion using the players he had at the club at that time with small adjustments that gave a positive net spend. Wow. Promotion, great football and transfer profit. He turned players careers around, no more so than Phillips who went from a League 1 player to one of the best in Europe playing the role Bielsa gave him. Look at his career dive as soon as Bielsa left!

So, we became a PL club again but Orta’s arrogance was only just starting. He had played a part in bringing in Bielsa but seemed to think it was he who won us our promotion. He was seen more and more regularly at games involved in controversial incidents, many of which were a little embarrassing.

Orta’s buying legacy began here. In three seasons in the PL he bought two good players: Raphinha and Adams. All the rest have been hugely horrible. There is a caveat here in that our owner was at this point financially out of his depth. He has sold now but it came two years late. Buying players was compromised but Orta has always gone for punts with potential. He particularly likes to track players over many years and sign them when the opportunity arises. His signings seem to have good relationships with him.

Bielsa is always very clear in what type of players he likes and Orta started to find it a challenge. We signed NO midfield players following our promotion or in the second summer after it. From a mid table Championship team to mid table PL team was never going to be sustained without an upgrade in personnel. Again and again Orta signed players who failed to deliver and threw hundreds of millions away in fees.

Augustin cost us 25 million and was simply not fit to play football at the highest level. Koch, Firpo and Llorente had weak mentality and could not handle PL football. James had failed at MU yet we gave them a 10million profit for a player who has no end product. It stared to catch up with us and in our second PL season, the midfield was getting overrun and with a few key players injured it all unravelled. In a famous Winter window, Orta offered Bielsa VD Beek and Dele Alli to highlight how stupidly inappropriate Orta is with his player selection.

Behind the scenes, Orta was manipulating Marsch into the club and Bielsa out of the club. When Bielsa was sacked 85% of our fanbase voted it was the wrong thing to do, but the ownership were 100% tied into Orta. Looking at the CV of Marsch at that time, you would never in a million years short list him for the Leeds job. He was a disaster from the first minute playing school boy level tactics and ignoring attacking width. Our better players were all wide players yet all were asked to play narrow.

Orta backed this fool with signings in the next two windows. An absolute horror show. Wober and Kristensen were Championship level players, Roca simply wasn’t suited to PL football with his lack of mobility, Sinisterra had a history of injuries which never changed, McKennie had an appalling attitude and dreadful fitness, and no one was sure where Rutter was supposed to play.

The team that was relegated is considered worse than the team who was promoted under Bielsa. After 5 PL transfer windows, that is all on Orta.

One player I have omitted from the discussion is Rodrigo. He is a bit tricky to label. Bielsa used him as an enganche and though he tried, Rodrigo could not do the midfield work required. Bielsa erred here and should have binned him off but didn’t. At times under Marsch, Rodrigo scored goals playing as a forward and at other times played for himself or didn’t make an effort. At 30million, his contribution divides the fanbase a little but his stupid contract clause still allowed him to depart for a 3million fee.

Orta kept Marsch in his job until it was too late to save our season. he should have been sacked Summer 2022, and then in November but a lucky win at Anfield saved him. The football every week was terrible to watch and lower end teams used a low block and counter attack to beat us over and over. Marsch was clueless.

Post season and Radrizzani has now sold the club two years too late. Orta left us a wonderful parting gift with every one of his PL signings having the option to move on loan, a contract clause put in alongside a 60% drop in wages. Of course every player took the loan and we have been able to sell none of them. No one in our fanbase wants any of them to play again for the team.

Victor Orta. Sacked Bielsa, employed Marsch and bought a bunch of absolute losers. Enjoy.

Thanks for the contribution and telling a bit more of the Orta and Leeds story from your experiences. His time has just started and so far it looks like things start to happen in a positive direction. Early to say, but still, it’s a new start and he will get a fair chance.

One thing to note that before Orta his arrival here the board and upper management was a mess already, even though result wise the seasons were saved. Problems were shining through.

Also Mendi was appointed in advance of Orta. I personally disagree with plenty of decisions taken latest years as well. But on the positive side. From the first news of the signings Mendi is Impressed with Mariano Diaz, the one we probably had least expectations for and Soumaré and Ramos apparently have made real strong impressions too. So for now, It looks better then a couple weeks ago and we can only hope things will be looking up on the field and in the table in the time to come. We can just judge on salary house got cleaned up a bit, squad got better and younger in general and there are options for the future. How that Future will turn out, we will have to see, but let’s act confident for now.
