Monchi out - Orta In

Just read this and similar news is being echoed on various Sevilla IG accounts, surely not? But then again this season is draining as ever and hopefully it’s just to take some time off and not leaving permanently.

Lots of rumors. He looked happy, but a bit somber too at the celebration. I know this season was hard for him, but I don’t trust anyone else to get us out of the rut.

Hope he doesn’t go. A lot of mistakes were made this season but responsibility is shared for this.

Monchi has led us to an unprecedented period of success in the last 20 years. He really has been the orchestra for this with his recruitment. Last time he left for Roma, our results dipped I seem to remember.

I remember him asking for some time away from the club before. This job takes a toll on him. I think of all people, we owe him that.

Mental health is key! I just wish he could take September through November off.

What about Victor Orta? He made some decent signings at Leeds, albeit his time ended with quite the disaster.

Monchi should be given time away after the summer if he needs a break. As @ChrisLail says, mental health is important, especially given the stresses of the last couple of seasons.

For every truly great player Monchi has bought, he’s bought maybe another 3 good, 3 average and 3 poor, but at least he does have the ability to pick out gems like Alves, Baptista, Koundé and Fabiano plus players who have fit in like a glove such as Kanouté, Drago, Maresca, Rakitic, Sarabia, Ben Yedder, Bacca, Gameiro, Fernando, Bono, Diego Carlos.

Without those truly great players we would have a lot less trophies, maybe none this century.

So if Monchi wants time off to recharge batteries I would recommend that Sevilla accomodate his wishes.

But yeah, as Chris mentioned, seems like an odd time of year to take time off, if your primary job is July-August. Let’s give him September through November off. Paid vacation to Roma or something, but I can only imagine that if these rumors are true…something must be a little rocky…

Emery can go to hell. You’re dead to me, Unai.

This would be 100x the steal he made with Krychowiak.

Rumors are saying he wants to join up with Aston Villa and Emery.

I’m tired of his tantrums talking about leaving every summer. Thankyou Monchi & goodbye.
Víctor Orta being banded about as his replacement.

I tend to agree. If he wants to leave, he should leave. I hope we find someone to replace him that’s successful so that Monchi can’t come crawling back here if he fails at Villa.

Lol. I’m only partially offended over here. Uncle Sam, on the other hand. He is PISSED.

I understand the annoyance, but it clearly points to a bigger issue which is the front office. A person who loves the club as much as Monchi does and is so successful just doesn’t leave because of the stress of the poor league season. The fact that we haven’t offered him a lifetime contract is a bit of a farce to me. He’s earned that right. He’s earned the right to leave if he wishes too; however, I don’t think that is really what he wants to do.

Could others do his job well? Yes of course. Can others do his job well with the current front office? Very doubtful.

He didn’t want to leave before the Juventus game, in a video made then he laughed at the suggestion and said he is happy and staying. Then again, he only only has to write ‘I’m staying’ in a tweet to put the fans at ease. So it’s a case of mixed messages or something has changed. I’ll be real disappointed if he goes.

To Castro’s point though. If he leaves for another job, why shouldn’t he pay the “transfer clause?” If it is just for a sabbatical, then sure have at it. If it is for another job, I’m sorry, you are now the enemy, pay up.

Yeah I agree @TimSpence2. My thought this morning was is it a power play to regain some of the perceived authority lost to the board?

He seems to have been outmanoeuvred when it came to Lopetegui this season and he didn’t look best pleased in the videos when Sampaoli came in, so I can understand if he’s unhappy with the current power balance.

On the other hand if his head has been swayed by a better paycheck at Villa, he can leave once they pay his release clause. He’d be crazy to swap Sevilla for Birmingham though…

Is Aston Villa really a step up? In wages and transfer budget, I guess. But I have no problem with him leaving, he also deserves credit for this super old selection and terrible start of the season.

Tracing Victor Orta’s transfers makes me unsure of him. But we all know that England is a different breed in comparison to the top 4 leagues in terms of transfers…

I, myself, would like to see Overmars take over. He has proven himself at both Ajax and Antwerp. Knows how to keep a good balance between youth and experience, something Sevilla seems to lack nowadays. Only left (before getting fired) from Ajax because he sent dickpics to a staff member. With the boardroom drama in Seville, a dickpic is a laughable affair and probably zero cause for concern. And he played for Barcelona for four seasons back in the days, so he probably won’t have huge problems adjusting to Spain. And - c’mon - we should be able to attract somebody to leave a Belgian club, right?!
