MD5: Barcelona vs Sevilla [20/21]

I like that a lot of you weren’t satisfied with the draw. That’s the spirit guys!

We signed Rekik for 5 years. Dutch analyst is stating its a good buy and he developed well in Germany. Let’s see.

Honestly, we should have won this one. Barca had the ball a bit more but didn’t do anything with it, the match could go either way at any moment. I was disappointed with Oliver Torres, although he played only 10 minutes and it’s harsh to judge him on those minutes, but he can do much much better in these kind of games. His final pass was lacking and he held on to the ball for too long at times, unnecessarily.

I also have a feeling that Lope kept De Jong on the pitch a little longer than he should have. With YEN and Munir we had more pace, but then why sub off Ocampos? Sure it wasn’t his night, but he had the pace at least and De Jong wasn’t providing much after the goal.

Anyway, we are only talking like this because of the greatness of this squad. Hopefully something great is in the making.

VAMOS MI SEVILLA!!! VAMOS CAMPEON!!!

That’s the level we are at. We still have things to solve, like YEN, but we turned up the volume and got distracted by the changes. minute 84 to 89 we had them beat and it just disappeared, then they had us backing up for the last 5 minutes.

It’s quite awesome isn’t it? One can notice the collective pessimistic mentality of the past is still persistent before the matches, but once the match begins and the team starts showing that we’re in for greater things, we as fans relax and the perspective changes - we aim higher.

Hopefully we don’t jinx it and we continue to produce this kind of football.

Honestly I was clenching my buttcheeks when Diego Carlos slid a tackle and touched Messi’s feet. On a bad Day, this would have been a penalty I swear.

Agreed, a lot of rough edges to smooth out, I would think a competent trainer could do that.

VAR is always our enemy vs. Barca, RM and even Atletico.

Good defensive work and pressing.
I hope Idrissi would bring some hope to our offensive play.

Agreed on Oliver. Too keen to pause of the ball and check back. He needs to play on the half turn and look to spray the ball forward. It won’t be long before Oscar steals his minutes.

Lack of depth in striker department comes to haunt us again. Vs. Bayern, we could have beaten them had we had a quality finisher.

Been reading up on some Barça comments, loads of complaining and pointing at the VAR and the penalty, the irony makes me smile

Agree 100%. Some progress, but still have things to improve. We now have players like Oscar & Idrissi to hopefully improve the team’s attack.

Barca fans… thinking the match took place in RSP :worried:

About an average Barça ‘fan’

Draw isn’t good enough. This Barca team isnt that grand. Coming into this game, I knew kounde will keep ansu fati in check. We will regret later for not taking all three points. This is our chance to win the la liga before monchi sells the entire squad

Had to turn in shortly after I posted as kick-off was 3am. Will take the result and add some thoughts after watching the stats, highlights and your comments.

The result.
Flatters to deceive, Sevilla only had 1 sot while Barca had 6, the books will say Barca controlled the game and were unlucky to draw, those watching the game will know it was more to that, Sevilla could have had a result and issued a statement to La Liga early, given Sevilla only managed a draw while the rest were all loses at Camp Nou in the last decade I’ll take it, also nice to get this fixture out of the way early in the season before it could disrupt any momentum mid-season. With this down the other difficult ones will be Real, Atletico and Villarreal away.

Players
Like you guys said, Sevilla could have snatched it at several intervals, just player quality letting them down. YEN could’ve done better but Sevilla have to build his confidence slowly. Ocampos seems to be trying to do too much on his own, and that shows in the first few games; might need the international break to get his head back in the proper place. Haven’t seen Oliver yet so I’ll take your word as being too passive, really wanted Oscar to come on as a sub, Lope should start giving him major minutes as the season progresses. Best news was that CF made it off the bench, it was only on 85’ but better than none, shows he’s included in the clubs plans, right?

Navas
A number of you stated it was one of his more tepid games plagued by errors and I’m not surprised. We’ve been saying for over a year that relying on a 34 year old to hold your entire right flank together is like walking on a tightrope, if there wasn’t the covid enforced break last season could have been different. Now the transfer window is about to close and still no backup has been found, putting the position in dire circumstances. Having Suso who isn’t known for tracking back isn’t helping either. Maybe Monchi thinks Kounde could deputize? Anyhow the past four games are akin to amount of rest the squad would get with the CL group stages and it’s not looking good, at all.

Lope
Rode his luck in the away win to Cadiz and home win against Levante but this was better, guess he shows up for the bigger fixtures. Was overly cautious to throw Gudelj in but wanted to secure the point. The period from mid-October to December will be the big test, he has around 10 days to mull over tactics and selection, get it right and Sevilla could come charging out of the gates.
