What the hell was the point of Rafa Mir today?
Nothing worked tonight. Fatigue is the most important factor that contributed to this, mixed with a lack of decent approach to the match. Girona beat us fair and square… deserved 3 points for them.
On to Espanyol - but if the players get into the pitch with a similar mindset then it’ll be tough.

Shame about the result. We had an outside chance to push for Europe through the league. It’s probably gone now but overall we played well. Sadly these games happen but we move on. Vamos!

Surprised no one is talking about the fairly clear offside on the killer second goal.
Girona’s no.8 stood offside when Riquelme took his shot and the no.8 (Tsygankov) then passed the ball for Castellanos to score.
It is clear to see on replays - why was VAR not involved there?
Overall, I felt that this was perhaps the first game that Mendilibar got his selection and timing of subs a bit wrong. Starting with not yet fully fit/ready Papu and with still searching Gil weakened the team imo. Lamela and Rafa Mir should have come on earlier to be able to influence the game; if Rakitic was punished for disobeying the manager’s request not to go to the Feria, perhaps Oliver should have been the option?

Thought so at first too, but he’s not involved in the play until Montiel heads it to him. So it shouldn’t be offside.

That’s where the rules are not applied properly, imo.
The ball from Montiel was an attempt at clearance, not an intentional play - so should not have made their player onside there. That guy did not make any attempt to get onside and took unfair advantage behind our defensive line.

No play from a defender is to pass to the opponent tho, so you can argue none are intentional. In this case, at the point Montiel heads it, he’s ‘onside’ again anyway. Just after the crossbar reflection, he’s uninvolved. After that it’s fine.
