Well that answers that. Damn good strike!
First challenge too.
Vasquez drags Ocampos down and no yellow! Damn it why can’t they just call it the same way?
I was thinking the same thing! And how about Suso? What an effort
Carlos off seems risky with Gudlej on a yellow.
Going all in, Gudelj slotting in at the back. About time.
Don’t think so - purely strategy.
Suso and Oliver were really good off the bench, gave the attack more sparkle. Unfortunately not enough
expected result, but the attacking play is still worse than my imagination.
lucky not to concede 3 at first half.
No proper LB to cross + Navas heavily marked = 100% lost against serious team.
Furthermore, a coach know how to attack with mediocre player Or a bunch of athletic player, we have neither of those.
An unpopular opinion here, Monchi has done a pretty bad job last summer.
Not sure of his best position, he doesn’t carry a goal threat so playing him up front is pretty much a waste of space, did better when playing from deep but still lacking some killer element in his passes. Doesn’t shine consistently and if he wasn’t a Lope favorite he wouldn’t be here.
With you all the way here, failed to let go of some deadwood, reinforce positions of need and plunder Valencia for La Liga ready talent.
Pretty sure Mudo had a deal in place with Lazio, other Serie A teams would want him.
As for others, depends on which you deem as deadwood. Amadou, Gomez, Gnagnon? I would be tempted to place Oliver there as he’s not up to scratch and I know you’ll defo put Vaclik there
It looks like I’m criticising Monchi but I’m not.
I mean, the team last year was great, 60% is because of Navas and Reguilon ability to go forward (that’s what I think, at least. and Acuna doesn’t provide that), and 30% for Banega.
It’s REALLY hard to replace Reguilon and Banega on our tiny budget so it’s doomed to fail. And that’s why I’m pessimistic for this season before the season start.
The problem is, while Acuna can cross can defence and experienced,
he simply doesn’t have the pace or dribble to carry the attack forward which is absolutely crucial for Lope last season,
and Lope doesn’t have plan B either.
A guy I follow in Twitter (K.T.Stockwell) put it well (I’ll paraphrase):
Real not convincing . . . but Sevilla letting them off with low-percentage offensive patterns.
That about sums it up for me.
We’re stuck with what we got until at least January or even the end of the season.
Only good news is Suso is back, guy takes pressure of Navas and the both of them on the right wing can cause endless trouble. Idrissi has also shown flashes of danger on the left. If Ocampos ever finds his head again the offence still has some spark in it. De Jong and YEN have established roles so it would interesting to see what C Fdz brings to the team, just a shame he was brought down by Covid and limited his opportunities.
I’ll be honest. I’m completely uninspired. This has to be one of the least inspiring teams in years, too many players are not good enough and the football is boring. We’ll be lucky to get top 6 if something isn’t done.
A lot of it is down to a poor summer market where we lost Reguilon and Banega and haven’t adequately replaced them. Acuna has been okay and Rakitic isn’t the player he was. Controversial but I too think Monchi has had a poor summer and I’m no fan of Lope’s tactics.
Something needs to change fast.
Shameful performance against a fragile RM who lost both home and away to Shakhtar Donetsk and is struggling a lot this season. Of course, the pathetic referee did all he can to make things easier for RM, but they really wanted it more than us today. Luka Modric running all around and defending like crazy showed that too… while Rakitic… I better not speak.
With Atletico winning tonight, we can kiss the title race goodbye I think. While it will be very difficult for the 4th place as Sociedad and Villarreal are doing very well this season.
Sevilla weren’t bad or great, same for Real Madrid, so the game hinged on an error.
Question marks over Rakitic (overall participation), Jordan (connection), Vidal (plus and minus things).
The game needed YEN from minute 1, LDJ poor.
Suso looked good, very active and creative.
Ocampos still a fish out of water.
Oliver manages to enter and splits his time between centre-midfield and wing (I haven’t understood that yet). I like the way we can share positions and move around.
Fernando exceptional.
Thank you sir, will give it a listen when I find the time
