M18: Sevilla FC vs Atlético Madrid [21/22]

Dude thinks Rakitic is the best Sevilla player of all time

Couldn’t watch the whole match due to some electricity issues in my area, but managed to catch the last 25 mins and boy were they worth it!

We are slowly cementing the second place and that’s still very good given the circumstances.

Do we know what happened to Ocampos at the end? I was really worried when he was holding his chest… had flashes of Puerta for a moment :frowning:

He is our best player so far and the most in-form. Was a bit surprised seeing Lope sub in Gudelj for Montiel, when he had both Acuna and Ludwig that could perform well in the opposite flank (they’re still natural full-backs so it shouldn’t have been a problem), but then fixed that mistake by going 3 at the back or so it seemed in the second half (from the 54th min).

Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:

I’ve heard it was a concussion, if that is true it’s awful, but thankfully not a heart problem. I’m sure we’ll hear more about it

Also let´s appreciate how Delaney flew and threw his hole body over that defender to almost blindly reach that header to hit the crossbar. If Delaney would have gotten that goal diretly how amazing it would have been for him. Seeing him afterwards cheering like a madman still means everything tho. All about the team, where he came short in the Atleti goal in his duel with Felipe, for sure made up by his act right here. And that small touch by Kounde to lay it (maybe not fully on purpose) but it came perfect for Ocampos that way. Loads of small things for a great ending.

Beating Barca on Tuesday would be the cherry on top!

This 100%!

We almost forgot to mention him on the podcast. Great game for him.

I thought the team played great today. For all the injureis and then to through another one mid first half. Lope and the team adapted and did what they had to do! VAMOS

Barcelona really struggled today against Elche, they barely got out of that one with the three points. I’m actually very optimistic for this matchup and I think we can get a win out of this game. Vamos Sevilla!!!

It would and it would be our best start ever to a la liga season if we win it. If we somehow win that after all these tough games, injuries and fixture congestion it will be in incredible.

What character this squad and lopetegui has. We are building a great winning mentality which is great to see.

Wouldn’t go that far for now. We are doing quite well in La Liga, and the drop in quality is not the only factor - because even when Atletico won the title or was above us, we dropped in quality (along with the other teams), so it will always be like this. Some teams rise and some fall, it’s how the game is designed.

I’ve heard Felipe (the goalscorer for Atletico) mention in the after-match press that they (Atletico) have played very well but the details have decided the game. Couldn’t agree more. It was a game of details, just as a lot of our games this season have been.

This means that we are almost always getting the matches to the point where small details make a huge difference. However, that will almost never work against pacy teams and we have seen that from Dortmund last season to RB Salzburg this season and we will see it against every pacey team out there (if we face any in EL). That is because pacey and attacking teams do not care a lot about details, rather they go all guns blazing or sit back and counter until you succumb. With us taking it easy and going careful, we’re always at a disadvantage against such teams.

On the other hand, it is proving to work well with teams in La Liga (except RM who are masters of detail) and it’ll be interesting to see how it works against a team like Barca who are not in a good form, the worst they’ve been in ages quality-wise but they are quite pacey in overall.

Building a winning mentality means finding the ‘cure’ against the opponents I mentioned above as well - add to that against tricky opponents and against even more detail-oriented teams like RM. We haven’t done it, but this could be a good foundation if we keep the work up.

Also anyone else feels that it’s time for Fernando to step out for a while? Delaney is in a superb form and it would be a pity not to start him against Barcelona. I’d say give the Jordan - Delaney - Rakitic trio a chance in that match too. Could be what we need in the midfield, Fernando is 34 and that role is clearly taking a toll on him - not the fresh Fernando we have seen in the beginning of the season, so he might need a longer break and come on as as sub for a while.

Tricky one that. As fernando still is a rock in the midfield and quite reliable. Delaney is playing better but a month ago he had a few dodgy games.

It’s a difficult decision for lope as Fernando has had a rest so will be fresher but Delaney in good form. I’m cool with whoever he picks to be honest. Just depends what tactics he has on his mind to stop Barca’s more creative young players.

The one great thing is no matter who comes in usually does a good job right now as lope has them well drilled and the morale is super high in the squad. I was also impressed with Rekik and Gudelj too. They had great games in defence and we have really had to dig deep into our squad of late but these other players are stepping up to the plate. Lope has managed the squad great and we just need to negotiate this Barca match then we can get a well deserved rest.

The break will allow us to rest, get a few back, the schedule of games in January aren’t as tough on paper and we don’t have to worry about Europa league fixture congestion till February either. Hopefully monchi signs a couple of gems in January as well.

This game on Tuesday is huge. Even a draw isn’t a bad result considering how far clear we are of Barca and atleti at moment. If we win though we can really dream of at least 2nd this season and being the only potential title rival to Real Madrid.

I was impressed with Rekik and Gudelj last night, thought they both did well.
A big win and great to see and hear the fans finally really getting behind the team for once this season. The celebrating went on late into the night with chants & singing still going on outside the bars when I finally left the area around 1am :grinning:

Love this photo of Felipe walking away from goal thinking “nothing to see here, this is going over”

I was just thinking how well we’ve done out of the tough run of games we’ve had recently.

We’ve beaten Atletico, Bilbao and Villareal and narrowly lost to Real. Oh and we beat :poop:.

That is a very good return. Just need to cap it off now against Barca and it really will be a great situation for us going into the New Year, solidifying 2nd place and still in the title hunt with a game still to play at home against Real. Easier games to come also. Thankfully the Europa isn’t until February, so hopefully our injury list has reduced by then and maybe a few new signings have come in.

All looking very positive and the disappointment of the Champions League group stage exit is forgotten. This could be a very good season for us and it certainly is so far! Vamos!

In the last 14 years, we drew 5 and lost 8 against Barcelona.
The only win, was 2015 under Unai Emery 2-1 Victory.
The Barca we will be facing is by far the weakest compared to all of those before that.
Really need to punish them, we are not getting better opportunities than this.

It’s our best chance but it’s a shame about our injury pile up. I would be even more confident with more players fit. Still this is countered by their injury pile up too and their poor/inconsistent form at times.

They are in transition and finally we get them with some younger inexperienced players and no Messi. We have a good shot just need to keep our heads.

Of course I’m nervous due to mentally we don’t beat them hardly ever so it’s a hurdle we need to overcome and also don’t trust the refs/VAR against them. That being said we have the squad and manager and current fight to get a result. It will be some atmosphere. Vamos!

They have about 8 players from 17-22 in their team. Who have not played more than a handfull of big games. If that’s not where all our veterans and football experience and smartness can’t make the difference it’s lost. They are struggling against every team, if they outperform us in our home ground it’s just a shame. Thinking about going for a draw is inexcesusable as well.

Despite our poor record against Barca and our mounting injury list, we will be favourites on Tuesday.

This is the weakest Barca side in years. They undeservedly limped past Elche on Saturday.

Now is our time to beat them.

I get what you saying. We are favourites and it’s our best chance. Still though we have been unlucky with injuries and played a lot of football lately.

These games are never easy so I’m not gonna be devastated if we don’t win because we having a great season and way clear in 2nd so far. It’s just the fact this is a chance to shut the media up and the pundits. It would also be sweet to finally beat Barca and kick them while they are down. We could also go 13 points clear of them which is mind blowing to me.

I can already tell the media and pundits are getting irked by us being up their and upsetting their big 3 perfect establishment. Let’s hope we can punch another hole in that establishment on Tuesday night. Vamos!
