For sure, looking agressive and creating some great chances, with superb passing.Joa Felix failed some big ones too. But that hit from Alba, wondergoal brought them back level. But they do try very hard. Good match overall. Also Traore doesn´t look as out of place as I thought. Some decent danger from his side, the alves goal from his side and the assist on Gavi´s goal. While still having Dembele, Aubameyang to put in and Luuk oufcourse

They’ll be only 6 points behind us if they win their game at hand. Our main contenders for top 4 now are Atletico and Real Sociedad. It will be a fierce fight until the end, but the club should be alarmed and get their act together.

I agree. Barca could catch us. If they win their game in hand it’s only 6 like you say. We will have to go to the nou camp where we don’t usually fare well.
Basically like you say we have to get our act together fast because if we let this lead slip and let our rivals in they won’t waste the chance to overtake us.
Atleti could be our saving grace to ease our top 4 worries as they out of form like la real too. However, :poop:’ and Barca are both in form right now.

I actually think atleti should think about sacking simeone. I feel they need a new project now and there has been reports of a bit of trouble between simeone and some of their key players. They need to do something to turn the tide.

Betìs is a real threat if they win their home game vs Villareal this afternoon. Also it puts all the more pressure on the next Derbi Sevilliano. We will be really playing for 6 points that game.

The one thing I will say though is you’d rather be us with points on the board and the cushion we maintain for now than chasing.
All of us would have snapped someone’s hand off to be in this position right now if they’d offered it.

Sure - but the thing is that we’ve achieved the top 4 with a weaker squad and different managers at helm. Talks and overall belief has gone down from fighting for the title to keeping one of the CL spots and rightfully so. 8-9 points are far from a cushion when you struggle against mid-table teams and play ultra conservatively even against the likes of Andratx like Tim mentioned in the other thread.
We should be able to achieve it this season, but I’m honestly not excited about top 4 anymore, whether it’s through having a cushion on points or doing it in the last match day… it’s an absolute stagnation.
2nd place would still be something nice and new at the end of the day - although still meaningless besides the financials, but with the way the other teams are reacting and especially Barca, the odds are against us.

I agree with what you saying. If we just achieve top 4 then it’s no real difference to other seasons under other managers. The big worry is that Barca have been a mess for most of the the season.
This was our best chance ever to make a statement and try pull clear of Barca and co. Yet here we are rightfully talking about the prospect of them still catching us when they are arguably at their weakest/lowest point and us at arguably the strongest we been. Yet they have also bolstered their squad and their young players are slowly improving as well. They are on the upward curve currently.
It’s a mix of negative tactics and an overall mentality problem at this club. It’s almost like although we in 2nd place the club doesn’t really believe we belong here. It’s like we are imposters just taking up the position briefly until it goes back to its rightful owners.
I’m concerned as well unless we buck up our ideas then we could throw this massive lead away and end up in a battle for 4th which I agree would be a big failure and come down.

Villarreal beat :poop:, great news for us. :poop: were very poor today. Hopefully this demoralizes them so we can continue to widen the gap

Villarreal were looking good. They played well and kept on the throttle the whole game. To be fair, :poop: were pushing hard to equalize even late in to the game.

Could turn out positive this weekend if Madrid fail against Granada, they have plenty of players out, Benzema, Vinicius, Lucas V and 3 or 4 more with Covid.

Great result for us, we’re a point more clear of :poop: and Atletico after this weekend. Seven ahead of :poop: and 11 of Atletico in total which is a pretty comfortable cushion.
No need to panic about not getting into top 4. We’re very much in the driving seat. It’s Barca I think we need to watch out for the most, as they go within six points of us if they win their game in hand.

Well RM 6 points clear now. Still 15 games to go and we have to face them again, but really a tough ask now. We shall see.

It’s over now. I’m more worried about Barca catching us. We have to try regroup and fight for 2nd or 3rd spot.

In the first half they did alright. The 2nd half was complete domination by Real Madrid though. The stats difference is crazy in 2nd period.

Fair enough if you think that friend and yes would be good to secure a top 4 as it were, but I just think it can still be done.
