Would say commercialising and impact of money has only grown to modern day so it only makes sense. and LaLiga has maybe the most unfairly distribution of wealth compared to all leagues, although the top 8-10 can somewhat compete the drop off is so harsh after that. But probably Comparable with Serie A and Ligue 1 I guess, they are not wrong. But Personally I would still rate La Liga over them on football talent. My connection with Serie A is so limited, once in blue moon I watch a Juve-Lazio game for example . and it looks like a bunch of star players with a modelling career on the side getting into action when the ball falls to their feet or a Palermo-Lecce game when I put money on it back in the day. Maybe that’s because I want a certain result out of it but it made me not want to watch again it still doesn’t get me excited. Similar to our current football. I know my vision is skewed and I should watch like 20 games to find out, but that’s seems like a hell of a task at this point.
I can respect the passion in a city like Florence or a club like Udinese being a stepping stone and nurturing talents year after year. Just for the club’s or a player like Dybala or Joaquin Correa if I was to watch it again otherwise I can’t be bothered either. They often have some unexpected results or upsets tho, more so then in La Liga I would say. I once did a random three game prediction with the underdog winning and won more with that then trying to rationalize results. Still see those happening weekly. So at least that’s interesting.
Come on man! That cliché is literally 25 years old now. Italian football ain’t all defend defend defend catenaccio football these days like in the 1990s.
I find Italian lower leagues actually a lot more interesting than those in Spain, probably because I’ve watched Italian football for about the last 27 years, it is weird seeing a team like for example… Siena, or Modena who I’ve seen play in Serie A, now struggling a long in Serie C or some teams even Serie D.
I think I even remember a Chievo Verona game, and only thing I remember is pouring bleach in my eyes didn´t seem that bad suddenly. But maybe watching that´s their equivalent of watching a Cadiz game, but I stil get the idea they want to win. Which I sometimes doubt in Italy.
After our Copa game vs Zaragoza, I will tune in for Fiorentina - Udinese, coincidentally both who I just mentioned jezus. well awesome, curious how it will be.
I have always liked Italian football, even though don’t really have a team as such that I follow wholeheartedly. Though this season have paid more attention to Venezia than the other teams due to their American ownership and American players they have.
I’ve always been an Inter fan, as Inter was the first non British team I started to follow, back in 1994 AC Milan and Juventus were the big two so I went with the third team, and I love the Black and Blue stripes. Been a lot of rumour recently that a horrible Saudi consortium much like who own Newcastle want to buy Inter, and I really genuinely hope that doesn’t happen, it would make it really difficult to enjoy Inter Milan in future.
I tend to keep an eye out for Cremonese (Serie B) and Palermo (Serie C) results too. I do like tonkeep an eye on Venezia too, as I remember them being in Serie A back in the late 1990s, and their Black kit with Orange and Green design.
I had an obsession of inter when I was growing up. In my mums attic I must have 4/5 Inter or Italy goalkeeper tops with Toldo on the back.
I’ve been to a few games in Italy over the years. Napoli and Fiorentina being the main ones. With Pisa and Venezia on the list too. I can say you can’t doubt the support of fans but the stadiums really let them down. Don’t hold much atmosphere and just miles away from the pitch. All falling apart and you can tell Italian football has lacked that money for awhile. Definitely not what it once was.
I just don’t want to see Spanish football go the same way. Which unfortunately Real and Barcelona are key to the league’s success commercially. When Juve, Inter and Ac went down hill in Italy that’s when the league fell apart.
If they could make the money more fair in La liga and some of the big names come into the leagues. There’s no reason why they couldn’t get tv deals closer to the premier league and the whole league could benefit.
And yet this is the issue, even if such deals were ever to come to La Liga, you know full well Real Madrid and FC Barcelona would demand 80% split between them, and the other 20% split between the other 18 clubs. It has always been the way, and it is about time clubs like Sevilla, Real Bėtis, Valencia, Atlético Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad and so on stood up to them and told them where to go.
Short term it might have been a huge issue, but long term I think it would have really benefitted La Liga if Real Madrid and Barcelona had just pissed off to a European Super League. After all its not like Madrid (Atletico, Rayo, Getafe etc) or Barcelona (Espanyol) wouldn’t have been represented in La Liga.
