LaLiga 2021-22 Season Thread

Daylight robbery. Never a penalty to be fair. The authorities are doing everything they can to help Real Madrid here to win it and also keep Barca in contention. It was us yesterday, now atleti, probably will be soceidad next!

It’s good for us but I don’t like to see injustice.

It has never been a better time to aim for winning La Liga. That’s why we need to give 100% and beat the teams that we’re supposed to beat in order to stay in the mix for as long as possible.

Yes no surprises there, Mark!

It’s finished 2-2 which is a very good result for us.

I agree, we need to be better away from home. The good thing is the teams around us are dropping points and we’re getting away with it. We won’t forever.

If the la liga authorities allow it which they won’t  It’s already scripted for Real Madrid this season and also they worried about Barca so trying to keep them in contention too.

Osasuna will be very tough on Saturday. They are unbeaten away from home so far.

Every match is a tough one according to Lope. He always praises the opponents and often exaggerates with the respect. However, there is absolutely no excuse in the excuse book that justifies not beating Osasuna. That is of course if we want more than fighting for the top 6.

Even though Real Madrid couldn’t beat them at home themselves? We don’t have a god given right to beat anyone. Lope is right it will be tough. All these teams have good players and on their day can cause a threat to anyone in the league. It’s best not to underestimate anyone especially Osasuna currently.

That’s why though I feel more satisfied with our wins. As we have always did it with team spirit, smaller budget and no world class players. It feels more satisfying when we get the wins or win a big competition but nothing comes easy.

I totally understand you, but that’s the wrong logic to use. RM destroyed Mallorca 6-1, so going by that we should’ve won without any issues, but we didn’t. We’ve beaten Espanyol, that meant RM should’ve done it too? Or Levante… For reference, if Atletico would’ve used that logic they’d never win the titles in 2013-14 and last season.

The reality is that we are better on paper than most of the teams in La Liga. It is about how you get your players to play. In the past we were sometimes overachieving with the players that we’ve had, but it’s not the case this time around. It is an unwritten rule in football that says that you can’t win the title without beating the teams that you have to beat, and Osasuna is one of them. If RM doesn’t, so what? We should do it and get the title. We are better than them on paper, no excuses. It’s not about underestimating opponents at all, it’s the reality.

In fact, underestimating the opponent is if you field Rakitic and Jordan (or any of them) and tell the team and yourself that we’ll finish the business in the second half if lucky. Additionally, that shows a lack of proper match preparation from the coach - every opponent is different. You can play more careful and conservative, depend on luck against teams better than you on paper, not otherwise.

I think there’s very few (if any) arguments that can be used to defend Lopetegui at this point to be very honest.

A very good answer. You always give great feedback on the current situation. Yes, you are right when you say we shouldn’t look at other top teams slipping up as an excuse if we fail.

I guess let’s see what happens then. I have liked our home form this season and most of last season so hopefully we can produce the goods again. Vamos!

Not that I really care but even with the turmoil going on there you would think Barcelona will get it together at some point. Also, the league has some surprise teams in the top half of the table, suprising to me at least.

This is a very hard league to win but I see no reason we can’t; just have to stay consistent.

There is certainly a chance for us. We are consistent in terms of not losing much. We are doing well at home but the lack of away wins is the issue. Still we aren’t far away and the big 3 teams are much weaker than they been for a long time. They are all going through more difficult phases currently so there’s hope for us.

I do agree with the others that at times we lack the courage in tactics and formation to win away more and also the players seem to struggle to adapt to some away games too. It’s a combination of lope lacking the bravery to go for it more and the players lacking that bit of quality or unable to adapt in certain games that hold us back a bit. Still overall we have a great squad of players and a good manager who has helped stabilise us and get us into regular top 4 positions.

Still it’s gonna be an exciting season and we in the race. I’m not sure if Barca will have the instant bounce back they hope after sacking koeman. They in serious transition, pretty skint and morale is low currently. They will comeback but will take time for them to rebuild.

Like I said on other thread bro welcome to the forum. We look forward to hearing your views. We are a great friendly and cool bunch on here. The forum continues to grow and it’s awesome to see!

La Real started hot last year and faded. The team to be worried about imo is :poop:. They haven’t lost very much in 2021.

I think they will eventually fade as well. When you look at their squad I just don’t think they have the talent and depth to maintain this title winning form the whole season. Don’t get me wrong, a good overall team but I don’t think they are the best team.

Then again though Leicester won the Prem…so who knows lol.

It’s raining like hell in Sevilla but the heavy stuff comes on Monday.

I know it might change later but how does everyone feel that we 9 points clear of Barca? It should be 11 really. It feels pretty awesome to be honest haha.

Feels amazing, Mark. Barca should beat Alaves at home you’d think but they have been dreadful so who knows.

Come on Alaves!

Yeah I agree. I just find it surreal to look at the table and see the points gap. For like 14-15 years of watching la liga I usually see the same story of Barca and Real Madrid been way clear of us and everyone else. You got to pinch yourself a bit.

Seeing the usual Barca fans laughing at us and the other la liga teams. It just feels great to see times changing a bit and we certainly gonna enjoy it. Lots of Barca fans hating the banter currently haha.

I really thought that Emery would do better with Villarreal this season. So war it’s not looking good for them. Losing 2-0 away against a direct rival like Valencia and really struggling in the league with only 12 points collected (assuming they lose this one at FT, which is very likely). They have yet to win an away match… flashes of Emery and the 2015-16 season with us?
