La Liga 2023-24 Season Thread

Three decisions went to VAR in less than 30 minutes.

The first, Joselu climbs the back of a defender (as did another attacker) committing a foul that was ignored, ball comes off his head onto the defenders arm. No call on the field, VAR (Hernandez Hernandez) rings down for a handball. Penalty to Real 1-2

Almeria pulls one back but VAR rings down for a foul. The ref was 5 yards away, looking directly at it and didn’t see or call anything. VAR takes away the goal and books the Almeria player.

Last one, Vinnie scores but the ref rules it off for either a foul or a hand. VAR rings down, goal stands even though review shows that it clearly comes off Vinny’s upper biscep.

In the highlights they (LaLiga youtube) don’t try to show it well anyway.

The first situation I think the leaning or pushing is minimal and can understand the handball.

The Almeria goal cancel is just plain corruption, taking all influence from the arbiter on the field and deciding it behind the screens.

Hard to distinguish the handball in the two frames on youtube. I’ve seen the opposite happen in similar situations and had discussions about this before as well. But apparently in 2023 they made new rules about it or to ‘clarify’ the rules. But once again it shows, the willingness to help Madrid…

Unbelievable, seen another video from Dutch media way clearer compared to youtube (where they try to hide it, as I’d thought they would). Very clear handball on the upper arm from Vinicius. Shameful.

La Liga killing off an honest attempt from Almeria to fight to stay alive, killed off by bureaucracy.

Conclusion, Almeria is robbed.

No es Futbol.

I swear Real Madrid doesn’t need the help from referees, but they still favour them when things go wrong. It’s only January vs 20th-placed Almería, they’ll be fine FFS!

I can’t stand this league. :face_exhaling:

I refuse to watch r madrid in any game. I find it benefits my heath, especially my blood pressure.

I have not left the forum, I am not dead, not even ill nor have I converted to Betico,

It’s just that I’ve had a hard time readusting since the Mrs retired in October and I’ve got a couple of projects taking my time. But I have to confess I’m too scared to read the Girona comments.

I’ll keep popping in until normal service is resumed at home.

Already feel better about things hearing from you. Thanks for chiming in Tim!

And don’t rush back anytime soon. Sevilla has been in a constant state of readjusting since Monchi left. Protect your inner peace.

Dmitrovic, currently the worst goalie in La Liga statistically.

Glimpse of his training:

Maybe he needs glasses? Poor Dmi, he’s fallen off hard.

dude what happened im actually curious

he was so solid that mendi started him over BONO in the league last season towards the end. i wonder what caused such a dip in form that he cant even catch a ball right anymore.

its most likely jetlag and whiplash from the changes of managers but its seriously concerning how drastic the difference is

Cadiz get a point to apply a bit of pressure to us. Celta lose. Now it’s up to us. Let’s see.

Cadiz play out a goalless draw away at Villareal which means they’re only behind us on goal difference now.

Celta currently 2-0 up away at Osasuna and as it stands three points above us in the table.

Results not going our way and only add to the pressure to get a result tomorrow night.

A bad set of results for us. Cadiz nearly stole a 0-1 win at Villarreal too. That would have been too much though. Still they get a point and celta are thrashing Osasuna 0-3. Both them teams improving. Celta especially and Cadiz are more solid again at back.

We need a win tomorrow considering the hard run of games coming.

It shows how poor we are that we couldn’t beat a very poor Osasuna side last week. I feel Rayo aren’t great either right now but not sure we good enough to take advantage.

It is a big pressure game now tomorrow night. It might be must win to avoid relegation.

Rayo have just one win at home this season. A game we need to win especially with the games coming up after that.

Just when things were looking up.

Marcao injured yet again. Muscle tear that will keep him out for weeks
Agoume also suffers the same injury & will also miss a few games.
