Champions League 23/24 - Sevilla FC vs Arsenal

Probably right, but still got a game to upset Arsenal. After that I will confirm for wishing 3rd.

Even if we played one of the top teams in Europe, I hope we improve our attacking play. Maybe the 4-3-3 limits us going forward, but Alonso showed he’s not afraid to mix it up. And i guess it’s safe to say Soumare should be the first name on the teamsheet in midfield? He covers so much ground & and gets us out of many tight situations. Ramos & Gudelj are warriors back there, back i think eventually Bade will find himself back in a starting role. Perhaps Alonso favoured experience for these first couple of games.

SoumarƩ was good again, maybe best on our side.

Right, right now we need most from our full backs but we know that situation. Even though Navas tried his hardest.

Ocampos and En Nesyri both can be applauded for their workrate and some love it. But offensive effectivity is bar nothing.

Also Rakitic was slower then slow, against a PL side it showed in ten fold. He still contributes and maybe balances the team a bit as a captain and his set pieces have been helping us massively this year when nothing from open play seems to go in. I think this might have been our 7th goal from a set piece, quite impressive. But yeh… you don’t want to be dependent on those.

Feels like the same old depressing story in the Champions League as it has been the past few seasons. Hope I’m wrong and by some miracle we turn this round. Just not sure we have the quality when up against the very best teams.

I’m not sure if YEN is fitting in with the Alonso system currently. Maybe time to give Mariano and Mir a go.

Probably right but the amount of space you need in a system for him to be valuable, is insanely rare.

I don’t see it going forward, except when you play to counter.

He should go to Italy.

We are against Lens and PSV in this group for the second place.
They are not among the very best teams.

Too early to tell. Besides, we aren’t playing that much different than we were under Lopetegui. YEN scored 20+ goals then.

First, sorry for my bad English:)…i’m from Germany, 50 years old, my Name ist Sascha
Im here, because i was long time ago in a whats app group spanish football. There i wrote sometimes with Chris Lail, he told me for this forum…special greets for him and all in this forum.
Because of my bad english i was since then only a Reader.
Today my mood is not bad. I think we have a good new coach. I have Never understood, why Soumare under Mendi never played. So strong this guy today, also against Real Madrid. The Choreo from the fans was great, but i missed sometimes more power of the fans in situations of the game, the players really needed.

Go look at the calculators. I’m not convinced we WILL make it through, but with all the ties, it’s not at all far fetched that we go through with 8 points, ie. we could lose in Emirates and then win at Lens and vs. PSV. Basically you just need Arsenal to win all their remaining games, while not guaranteed, that’s still quite likely.

All this to say, our fate is still largely in our hands, even if we don’t take points out of Emirates stadium (crap stadium, if you ask me, very quiet and dull place from the UCL match I saw there in 2015).

I’m far from certain of us going through, but if you told me at the beginning of the group phase that if we beat Lens away and PSV at home, we had a solid chance of going through, I think I’d be ok with that result as of match day 5. Hopefully we get a point or three from Emirates, but I don’t think we need to start getting dour.

That is true to be fair.

The thing that has cost us in this group is not beating Lens at home and not winning when ahead late on at PSV. We’d be looking in a much stronger position otherwise now.

It’s not impossible that we could go through with 8 points even if we lose to Arsenal again but it will be tough.

We live in hope though while there still is!

When was the last time we finished bottom of our champions league group?

I can see the game against PSV ending up being the decider as to who gets 3rd, But.

Not giving up yet

Nice enjoy Brian

I always thought Arsenal was known for the most expensive tickets of all clubs but £30 for a CL game seems surprisingly cheap.

What are everyone’s thoughts on this game? I wasn’t able to watch, and all I can find are the highlights, but that doesn’t give me a complete picture of the game.
