I’m not intimately familiar with the IDV squad, but I don’t see any of their major stars missing, except Kendry Paez, who is rumored to be on his way to Chelsea. I could be wrong there, but I think IDV lined up to win this.
Season hasn’t started and I’m already complaining about refs
Goal for Kike Salas ruled out, offside.
Great stuff by Juanlu, Isaac probably should have done better
Yeah, looked like it should have been a goal. Juanlu definitely the players of the pre-season so far. Maybe tied with Teca.
How many minutes did Juanlu play yesterday? like a lot right?
As the resident “expert” on Ecuadorian futbol (currently writing this from Quito), I’ll add the only bit of color commentary I really know about Independiente del Valle. And color commentary is probably well-timed right now, since this match is seemingly getting more boring by the minute.
So, while not (yet?) a household name, Moises Caicedo is lined up to likely become the most expensive Ecuadorian transfer in history, as EPL clubs are lining up offers approaching 100m euros for the Brighton player. Moises Caicedo was bought by Brighton from Independiente del Valle in January 2021 for 5m euros, but both in the World Cup and in the EPL, has shown himself to be an really formidable midfielder, playing a huge part in Brighton’s 6th place (Europa League!) finish in the EPL.
In any case, not terribly relevant to today’s match other than the fact that IDV have seemingly built up Ecuador’s strongest youth talent development system, something which seems to be paying off with strong performances across South America and to some degree in the local league, where they’ve only been in the top tier since 2010 and their first promotion to second tier was only in 2008, and as recently as 1996, IDV were playing in the regional Pichincha cup, effectively Ecuador’s 4th tier of football.
In any case, crossing my fingers that Idrissi and Gattoni can mix things up for us a bit. Seems silly to lose this match!
???
What are we doing
Prefering to walk the ball across the line apparently…
PEDRO ORTIZ 1-1
Finally - Ortiz wasn’t fucking around with that one.
What he needed to do the first time
And then he does what he should have done just a minute before. At least the young lads gain some experience.
Haven’t been paying a ton of attention, but looked like Jordan did a good job of controlling the midfield. Had some nice touches.
He definitely gained some momentum as the game went on and Independiente started digging in and defended their 1-0 lead.
Dmitrovic saves, but was off his line, retaken, and he saves again
Those were four of the best penalties I have ever seen.
Dmitrovic saves two (or three i guess)
Again, when was the last time we lost a shootout?
It gets to PKs and ain’t nothing to these boys. Some great penals taken there. Really good all around.
How did Idrissi do? I’ll catch the replay later, but streets are saying he could fight to make the final cut.
He was good. Missed a few chances, but was dynamic.
