UEL SF: Sevilla vs. Man United [2019-20]

Just 3 minutes before he scored me and my friend were lamenting how slow he was, our conclusion on the winner was he was so slow defenders lose him as they’ve never faced a striker as slow as him before, especially for the premier league.

He comes up in the big games but is really an impact sub tops. Won’t last a full 90 against nimbler opposition.

The past 2 games showed we can go toe to toe with English opposition, it’s just that they are physically overpowering and would hit you with bleeding pace over 70 minutes so, no time for dallying and shielding the ball for incremental gains over the pitch. If the players could survive the opening onslaught for 20 minutes and implement their gameplan they could wrestle control. Last night the team was hanging by the thread on multiple occasions but got through due to individual brilliance.

The squad is built for La Liga and continental competition so no need to worry too much about the performance. Luckily Inter and Shaktar are not of the same ilk, I’m not sure the players can go up against a third English team in 10 days.

I’m glad that of all people, De Jong is the one who scored that goal. I know it’s cynical, but he can win so many other admirers with how much the press will talk about that result.

I know his goal tally speaks for itself, but you never know. “He’s tall, good with his feet… he might just be a good signing for the Premier League.” I could only dream right?

@Edinho perfect analysis, great to see you recognize Jordan is the man, unquestionable.

I watched the game twice and saw the highlights mainly the saves of Bono about 40 times this morning. I reckon Manchester had six chances, four of which were when they opened the Sevilla defence and faced Bono, another one from a free-kick and another from a defensive rebound. Not counting the penalty which I don’t consider valid.

Sevilla had Manchester’s trousers down five times but but with more definitive results.

So Bono really was the difference. But it could be another player in the next game, we’re stacked to the roof with talents.

I watched the full game with all the agonisingly blatant bias that came with it from the English commentary team.

What a performance. We were nothing like near our best but champions find a way and when it comes to this competition, that’s exactly what we are.

Makes it all the more sweet that it was against United for me given my Liverpool links but at the same time, it won’t stay sweet unless we go on to win it!

Inter will be favourites and that suits me just fine.

I knew we wouldn’t give up and would find a way to compete to the end. How?

Dicen que nunca se rinde!
