Anyone notice who where this during ceremony?
Edit: ok, i think all players wear this shirt a while after ceremony, live tv didn’t film it though. Kudos to club for preparing this shirt.
I hope I can buy one.
I´ve been lurking a bit in their match comments on the inter forum. Some of those comments are just from anonther level, Jim was right. Emotions ofcourse and a few users with some more perspective in their comments. But let me put a warning for some pain in your eyes and possible headaches, if you decide to enter that darkweb.
The concensus seems to be they, didn´t deserve it after how they played; they hate Conte for his playstyle not getting out of the team what they should. And also the ref was a cunt. Something like that.
Made me glad to see, what a place you guys have created here.
How does this achievement rank with the other UEFA victories?
It seems like every cup win had gotten tougher than the previous one. This Inter team was arguably stronger than the Liverpool team we beat in 2016.
It’s tough to say. However, in a way I think this one maybe the toughest. Due to the circumstances with Covid, many matches in quick succession following la liga, playing without fans and a very tough draw.
Of course other times we actually had to play more europa league ties as knockout in usual format is over 2 legs normally. We arguably had more nerve racking finals like Espanyol in 2007 or Benfica in 2014 where we won on pens.
The Liverpool final in 2016 was tough to but in a way I think this one could be most satisfying and best achievement.
I think for me the most enjoyable and epic won was 2007. Andreas Palop was the hero that tournament. I still remember his goal against Shaktar. Shudders! Plus his 3 penalty saves.
To think what we have achieved in this tournament is amazing. We had some amazing goalkeeping performances and especially this season from Bono!
What a legendary club! So many memories!
Man City erects David Silva’s statue. We must do the same for Ever Banega. And Jesus Navas’ after his retirement.
A divisive question … which of Sevilla’s 3 goals was best and why?
For me the second, because of the beauty of it. Also, looking at it again and again, the run from De Jong in the far second post makes it seem like it was a training manouver being deployed during the game.
However, all the goals very were important and the third was nail in the coffin for Inter.
For me, the winning goal, simply cause of the irony. Scored by Diego who conceded the penalty for fouling Lukaku, who then misses the 1v1 chance, only to score the own goal. Might be the harshest lesson for a top striker.
Yeah for that story line Diego LuCarlos his goal was quite special.
But the goal it’s self, for sure the second one. That is an absolute stunner of a heading goal, the floating diagonal with a power that surprises everyone, dropping in the far corner. Pure beauty. As shendm said, the running lines during the set up make it more special like a perfectly practice set piece on FIFA where you hit the sweet spot in the delivery and everything turns out perfect.
First goal would be my pick. De Jong headed the ball like a bullet. Reminded me the powerfull header goals from Kanoute. Man the guy knew how to score with his head.
I go for the first, he timed it perfectly and it was an absolute missile. The second was astonishing and it’s unreal to see the ball traverse the entire defence to land in the far corner but he headed it without a visual and you could see his expression change as he saw it enter. He’s real crafty to take that position, I’m sure it was a rehearsed move.
The overhead kick was also spectacular, lucky to get the space without ‘foul play’ and also lucky to have a deflection but it was executed perfectly.
Winning the cup 6 times is like unreal. No matter how the winning squad has been dispersed over the years, the club manages to reshape, comes back and wins it again.
The club has grown a culture around UEFA cup. They don’t boast over past trophies, they want more. This alone shows how professional the club is being managed. Their success is not a coincidence.
They say that Sevilla’s wage budget is lower than Turkish club Fenerbahçe. Our clubs spend so much money yet there is no success at all. It is because we lack such a professional management, and a culture that focuses on long term consistent success.
Galatasaray made it in 2000 but they never established an administirational culture that focuses on consistency and a notion that one cup is never enough.
That was exactly like a good old Kanoute goal, spot on. I sometimes wondered where did I see goals similar to this… Kanoute of course!
I liked Taffarel a lot at that time. @SurreySevilla must know him being a goalkeeper himself
But you’re right, Galatasaray took the foot off the pedal after that triumph, and it would be nice to see a Turkish club winning a major trophy like back then, but I don’t think it will come soon.
What is your top 5 of goalkeepers?
French league is in play, watching Monaco losing to Reims, several other games going on with spectators in the stadiums. I didn’t know.
The after-game celebrations were very interesting. At the final whistle all the players dashed onto the pitch but Ocampos couldn’t run and got overtaken. Had a quick cry and then he was OK, Reguilon sat apart crying his eyes out talking to his mobile ‘what do I do now, if I leave I’ll miss another trophy in September’. Lopetegui crying, Navas crying. Gudelj crying.
Vaclic inconsolable has a long talk with Lopetegui, ‘Bono is better than me, bwaaa’, Lope seems to calm him down. Carlos was crying with pain until the final whistle, then recovered enough to run about.
Suso smiled once or twice, Oliver and Munir were crazy. De Jong interrupts Diego Carlos topless press interview and says ‘He’s got loads of shirts but never wears one when the cameras are around’
Reguilon says to Carlos ‘3 games 3 penalties, shame’, Diego Carlos replies ‘3 penalties 3 victories’. All in good humour.
