UEFA Champions League 2021-22 Thread

Great for la liga to see 3 teams progress to the champions league quarters. Congrats to Villarreal and Emery.

Y’all remember early in the season when they were calling to fire Emery? Maybe we can learn a bit from that.

Oh and yeah… Vlahovic is world class material!

Definitely Chelsea or Benfica are the prefered opponents. Or a possible Spanish duel Atletico - Villareal. Would be a nice free way to last 4. For one of them.

It is simply ludicrous to be a Villarreal fan and ask for Emery’s head. Villarreal have over-achieved with Emery and are becoming a reckoned force in Europe - while we are underachieving with Lope and not even making the CL knockout stages. We should’ve been in the CL quarters not them, on paper we’re better than them.

Anyway, I will call for Lope’s head again if we go out tomorrow, just like I’ve done since the mid 2020-21 season. Nothing has changed in terms of play or tactics. Nothing to be optimistic for.

You’re giving me shitty play? Then show me the results. No results? Fuck off! That’s my motto.

Emery and Europe are like a match made in heaven.

He loves it.

Unfortunately he couldn’t do much with us in CL because of his league ‘anomaly’. Also the rule of going straight to CL group stages after winning the EL was introduced in the 2014-15 season, so we missed a CL qualification because of that after the 2013-14 EL triumph.

In 2015-16 it was tough luck with the ‘group of death’ as we had to deal with a very in-form Man City and Juve, who we managed to beat at home. But he made up for that as we went on to win the EL that season too.

I have only fond memories of the Emery era and it was saddening to see him go, but that’s life and that’s the football world. I think with a better team and a bit of luck he’d go far in the CL with us, especially seeing what he’s doing with Villarreal. Not much to say for his La Liga performance, but we played much better under him in general and were 1 point off from 4th in 2014-15.

Villarreal with a massive result, holding onto a 1-1 draw in Münich, advance after winning 2-1 on aggregate.

A question was asked when Villarreal made the quarters, if we would trade our season for theirs, and it was mostly nos. What about now? Would we trade our season for theirs?

Emery being Emery. Fantastic result and well-deserved. Looking at the league table: no, I wouldn’t trade their season for ours just yet, but if they manage to finish in the european places then it surely is something to consider.

Was thinking that too. Although if they manage to pull through it will give them a massive boost.

Last 4 in the Best Competition in the world. Leaving behind some of the most succesfull clubs of all time. As Villareal. Insane performances, utmost respect. A chance to go to the finals, man o man.

And RM being RM. You just gotta respect their results in the CHL, but damn they’re annoying.

Congrats to Villarreal and Real Madrid. Great for la liga to see both advance. Real playing extra time helps us a bit for Sunday but man Benzema is the man again. Wow!

Amazing what emery has done at Villarreal in Europe too

A good night for La Liga. Shows the strength of the league is still there to have two Champions League semi finalists and Barca still going in the Europa.

Special mention to Villareal and Emery. Brilliant and a remarkable win. Congrats to them. He sure loves European competition that man!

So, Madrid had their mid week game, a 120 minute banger. And we are getting them, at home, next game with full preparation for one game. Let´s see what we put on the field this weekend and if we compete, as we should.

Not sure what Edi said about big games in general. But Lope hardly wins them, that´s one thing history showed. Also look how we approach the CL, you can count those as big games, biggest stakes, biggest prize money, biggest platform of football.

Villarreal done something we can only dream of, and they done it again after 16 years. Remarkable.

To be fair, I seem to remember us only narrowly losing to Bayern a few seasons back and we could have easily ended up in the Semis.

Not quite eclipsed Villareal’s achievements, at least in the Champions League.

I would still rather our season than theirs but if things turn sour for us and we lose out on 4th and they somehow win the Champions League, I’ll change my mind.
