UCL MD5: Sevilla FC v Chelsea FC [20/21]

That was an embarrassing performance. Only one team turned up for that game, we seemed to treat it as a pre season warm up.
That was the team we pick to play against Lucena, not Chelsea

Was working night shift so also missed this game, wasn’t expecting much maybe a 1 to 2 goal loss given the difference in quality and depth but not this.

The highlights were flattering for us, showing the team had a few moves that were just 1-2 inches from connecting and leading to clear cut chances. The stats are less promising, letting the opponent have 8 shots on target while having less possession is pretty bad, their 8 blocked shots also showed the team was content to let loose at a pack of defenders.

I would say it’s down to the starting 11 being made up of the 2nd unit but Chelsea had arguably more backup players on the pitch such as Giroud, Odoi, Jorginho, Emerson, Ruediger and Christensen with Pulisic and Havertz coming back from injury. Yet they still managed to rip holes into the defence.

Pastor did what he could and could only be blamed for one goal but what would you expect from a keeper making his debut? This match only highlighted how the quality drops off from the first 13-14 players. Gomez was atrocious and hasn’t played at all, so we knew what was coming. Gudelj is a player who is effective for 15-20 minutes to plug holes and slow games down, nothing more. Asking him to do a full 90 is pathetic, I have been banging on the drum for one more defensive midfielder but none came. Navas should not have started but the team didn’t sign any capable backups and the only one available wasn’t even registered to play in the CL, inexcusable and poor planning if you ask me. Mudo should really have been moved on in the summer but the club held onto him for whatever reason they thought of.

Anyways, a good chance to bring this team and Lope back down to earth after the near win away to Chelsea. The CL has a punishing schedule and given the form of other teams in the competition I am only truly afraid of Bayern, Man C, Juventus and possibly PSG given how much Sevilla are suckers for individual brilliance.

Onto Madrid next, Zidane gambled he could do without Ramos and Casemiro for one game and has two eggs on his face. The fact that Kroos, Modric and Lucas Vazuez played the full 90 means Sevilla might have a chance here, a rested Fernando, De Jong, Ocampos and Jordan should at least give a credible threat to their tired legs. They do anything similar to Alaves and a result should be within reach.

Lots of doom and gloom over a game we didn’t need to win, with a third choice goalkeeper and both our regular left-backs out injured.

Well I’ve just watched uefa multi football and seen 56 goals without a single VAR, strange.

It appears there’s no VAR in uefa, everybody stopped in one game, before realising there’s no VAR. This is highly questionable.

I don’t think it is doom and gloom as much as it is embarrassment and shock. We aren’t used to playing this shitty against good opponents especially EPL opponents.

A win in the group = 3.2 million dollars
A draw in the group = 1 million dollars
A loss = 0 dollars
Real Madrid game saturday no matter the result = 0 dollars

He’d score an own goal if we’d had the fans in the stadium booing the hell out of him, but he’ll have a quiet night tomorrow unfortunately.
