Since the pressure and fear of relegation have officially been lifted and a boring summer without any Sevilla-games are lurking in the horizon, I thought of making a re-run of the various discussions we have had here on the forum regarding a ‘best Sevilla FC-lineup in recent history’. But this time we make it bigger and better!
I was thinking of making ChatGPT extract a list of every single player who has made an official debut for the club since the 2001/2002 season. The players will be listed in four categories: goalkeeper, defender, center-midfielders, wingers and attackers/strikers. And of course the managers. Each user will be given points (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) to distribute as they please in each category. The players with the most points in each category will be enlisted in the all-time 11! And each category will have an honorable mention/substitue.
Would you guys be willing to play along? And/or do you have any inputs to the format to make it even better?
I think it would be fun to just see all the names that have been through the ranks.
Here’s a free rank choice system online if you want to make it slightly more scientific and make your scoring less of a nightmare (run by a university, so no ads or marketing). Allows up to 10 races (positions) and 30 candidates per race. Could be perfect, no?
It’ll even let you have two winners per race, ie. starting XI and one sub at each position.
Might have to cut Carole, Teemu Pukki and Gnagnon off the list to get candidate list down to 30 for each position.
If you could reduce the number of points to distribute. 1-10 seems a bit much and ChatGPT warned that a bigger amount of points to distribute would devaluate the highest points. And I think that is a fair point.
So, I’ve completed the list with somewhat questionable help from ChatGPT. 274 different names distributed on 6 different categories (goalkeeper, defender, center midfielder, winger, striker, manager). I thought about grouping the defenders in fullbacks and centerbacks, but it would open up some grey areas regarding those who could play both and those who mostly played in a 3-man defence. The difference between winger and center midfielder is a little more clear, but then there was the attacking midfielders who could also drift to the wing. I tried doing it this way, so let’s see how i works out.
I’m still looking for a poll-option. The poll on this site, Chris, it seems to limit the options to 20. There are 27 different goalkeepers, 78 different defenders, 58 center midfielders, 42 wingers, 50 strikers and 19 managers. I could probably narrow all the categories down to 20, but it seems like a lot of players I would have to discard personally which I think would be a shame.
The same problem regarding your poll-option, Ryan. Would it be an option to share a Google forms? It would require some manual data processing from my part, but exporting it to excel and doing it from there doesn’t scare me. But if I can’t share af forms and if you guys can’t use it, well…
I completely agree with using Google Forms! 274 players are too many to narrow down to 20 per category. Please go ahead and share the link when it’s ready. I’ll definitely participate!
All right, it turned out to be way more difficult finding a suitable option for this survey, but it looks like we are going oldschool with the google forms. The rules af written at the start of this post (5 points to one players, 4 points to another and so forth) I couldn’t find a rule to make you only vote for the same player once, but I will try and clean the data if someone mistakenly does that.
Give it a go and let’s see how i works out! Starting with our goalkeepers:
