Given how long the virus is going to be around, the transfer window might as well be open when things get back on track. And there are no shortages of names being floated around.
Shaqiri was touted for a mega money move but at 28 and being a winger I’m not sure he’s what the club needs. Also the links have sort of died down.in the past two weeks.
Diogo Leite, a 6ft 4in Portugese defender from Porto is the subject of a tug of war between us and Valencia, no idea if he is any good. The interest in Porto players continue with Chidozie Awaziem, another 6ft 4in giant who’s playing on loan for Leganes, Monchi loves Leganes and Porto players.
The right side of the pitch needs reinforcements so Joakim Mæhle, a Danish 22 year old do-it-all from Genk has been linked, while Florenzi who is rumored to be on good terms with Monchi is another possibility, though I’ve heard he’s uninspiring at best and torrid at worst.
The team’s needs are dictated by who is leaving the club in this window. Getting Rakitic is a priority, at 20m he is a steal and what we need after Banega leaves. Mudo could also leave if the any offer comes along, just relieved that interest in Ocampos has died down for now. I have no idea who to go for right backs but Malang Sarr is probably not the answer. Assuming some club does plump for Lopes could the club invest the funds in trying to acquire Everton Soares? Guy is electric on both wings and could be a deadly duo with Ocampos.
Diego Carlos gives different answers of whether he’s leaving every week but we need 2 defenders anyway. I really hope Monchi takes a look at Marash Kumbulla of Hellas Verona, he’s just turned 20 but has started almost every game for a Verona defence that has conceded a miserly 26 goals; only Juve, Inter and Lazio have conceded less.
Nancy won their case against Sevilla concerning the transfer of Clément Lenglet, in front of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). According to an official club statement, the Spaniards have to pay €3.708 million plus interest and procedural costs to club from the northeast of France.
I wouldn’t mind Bakayoko to replace Fernando/Gudelj. Had a big season in Milan, and was having a good one in Monaco. One of the top DM’s currently. But he’s pricy AND with those Chelsea wages?
No clue what’s to become of the transfer market. So much uncertainty, and i still have doubts whether a ball will even be kicked. But you have to imagine that Sevilla FC is one of the best clubs positioned financially. A lot of clubs have been running with debt, while SFC has seen growth in value year after year.
I mean we don’t have a ton of debt, but there are a lot of financial commitments with the stadium improvements, the training ground improvements and the recent investment into the roster. If they don’t finish the season, I’m assuming they will have to refund STH’s some money and maybe some sponsors. It could get ugly quick.
It didn’t start off well, but Gattuso was patient with him. They eventually developed some camaraderie and he was pivotal to that team, which got ravaged by injuries mid-season. You could see him reach another level in that 2nd derby game vs Inter, where he scored Milan’s opener. He galvanized the whole team and they nearly got the equalizer at the end, if it wasn’t for D’Ambrosio’s balls!
But towards the end of the season, something happened between him & Gattuso, and he never played the last few games.
I know Monchi has a track record of making well based decisions but the club should really be going hard for Rakitic, he may be 32 but knows the league, loves the club and the fans love him as well.
Orkun Kokcu is the name I’ve seen mentioned the most in past weeks, he is likened as the next Ozil and Monchi rates him highly. Not sure he is what the club need, with Banega gone and Mudo likely to leave the midfield is crying out for experience, playes in the Ozil mould need support from the entire midfield so they can pull the strings.
If Rakitic is unaffordable then the club should have a go at Campana, he’s averaging 2.2 key passes a game with 5 assists, good for 4th in the league after Messi, Odegaard and Santi. Didn’t know he was compiling such impressive numbers in the Levante midfield.
Or this could all be a smokescreen to get Rakitic to lower his wages and he will be presented as a Sevilla player when the window opens.
Monchi isn’t going to show his cards until he has to. I’m sure he wouldn’t say no to Rakitic if his wages and transfer fee are within budget. He’s been a captain once and could do it again.
Yeah I love Navas to death, but I don’t think he makes a great captain. He’s just not vocal enough and I’m not sure he’s great at referee management that good captains have. Escudero isn’t on the field enough to be the leader. I think Fernando has the makings of a captain, but he just arrived.
Rakitic is a round peg and Sevilla have a square hole, that’s as diplomatic as I can say it. Basically the way I see football developing within the club and to an extent many of the chasing pack, the times are a changing.
I agree, and it should start with bringing Campaña back. I could also see Pozo & Carlos Fernández making the team.
I’ve always seen Pozo play with the right attitude. He looked like someone who couldn’t wait to wear the shirt. I’m glad he at least found a spot in the squad during those first few months.
As much as De Jong was improving and scoring in big games, i’d rather see Carlos get his chance. He’s really developed into a decent player. I don’t think there’s room for 3 central strikers in a 4-3-3.
There’s also Pablo Perez, who plays LB for Sevilla C who’s been highly touted.
That’s a decent move for Escudero. I wish him all the best. Hopefully better luck with fitness.
This is also good for us, as we can weigh our options. We can formulate some kind of deal for Reguilón or simply sign another LB while still negotiating w Real Madrid. It’s been a problem position for years now, I’m just satisfied we seen some kind of consistency this season.
Not to challenge you or anything but why would Ivan not be a good fit in the Sevilla midfield? I concede he’s 32 and not the same captain who could power us to victories single-handedly, not a long-term solution but could be a good start. The midfield is heading for an overdue revamp and the only ones staying are Fernando and Gudelj with the latter a backup at most. The major factor here is Lopetegui insists on playing 3 in the midfield, not all players are suited or are acclimatized to 3 in the midfield but Rakitic has had plenty of time as the no.4 in the Barca midfield and do the same job for Sevilla as a rotation piece if not as a starter; but as stated earlier his wage demands are a huge obstacle and these would wreck the club’s finances other options should be considered.
Glad that Escudero is going back to Getafe, he puts his all in but wasn’t really the same after that injury, this leaves the club in an awkward position of having no natural fullbacks. Not sure who the club are going after but Cucurella on the left and Odriozola on the right would be good picks.
Regardless of how the season ends, Monchi and co. will have their hands full with rebuilding the squad, taking in the confirmed and expected departures the club have a question mark in goal, no fullbacks, 3 center backs with 2 likely to leave and a 3-4 man midfield depending on whether Mudo leaves. The attacking slots are fully loaded but some could be moved on if necessary and Nolito has come to end of his huge contract.
I think some of the players below can help but the amount of positions which need filling are too much so here are just some names.
Campana
Rakitic
Yangel Herrera/ Marc Roca / Sergi Darder
Cucurella
Odriozola
Darwin Machis
Mohammed Salisu (excellent stats for Valladolid, not sure if he can replicate it here but is only 20)
Carlos Fernandez and Pozo back from loan
Also the bunch of loanees coming back such as Amadou, Gnagnon, Vidal, Mesa, Corchia, Rico, Arana. Milan will probably buy Kjaer.
One big positive would be Cucurella but now he’s attracted a lot of attention and the price will be too high. Having said that, I don’t think he is close to Daniel Alves at his best, but he’s right alongside him in terms of stamina.
The Argentine attacker of Seville Lucas Ocampos said yesterday that he is motivated to read in the sports newspapers that he may be a possible signing of Real Madrid. "The other day I discussed it with my wife. We opened the newspaper and I said that Real Madrid is looking at me. Anyone else’s chest swells, those are things that motivate me a lot. The maximum desire of a player is to play in those clubs, the best clubs in the world,
