My name is James Dowden and I work at the club as a social media executive, with a special focus on English content.
Having come across the forum in recent days I would just like to say how great it is to see such an engaged community of Sevillistas.
With the start of the league season fast approaching I thought I’d take the chance to ask on here if there were any particular things you would like to see in terms of the English content this season? Got some ideas planned but was wondering if there were any ideas you wanted to see implemented or things you feel that could be improved?
Also, my Twitter/X is @jamesd_48 if you want to reach out there too!!
I for one thrive on the Spanish content that the team puts out. (If I play my cards right, I can convince my wife that it’s my way of studying Spanish )
That being said, English subtitles of anything y’all put out on YouTube would be awesome. Sometimes that can be hit or miss.
Really lean into the players, coaches, staff and front office who are comfortable speaking or trying to speak English for interviews, post game, pregame, etc.
Fun games, question/answer segments with all players, but in English. Force those people guys out of their comfort zone a bit.
A pregame/postgame show similar to the one in Spanish. This is something that I thought about trying to host, but the commitment possibly would be too much. Having some guests from the club would be great.
Helping us grow The Sevillistas Worldwide podcast. A re-tweet would do wonders for our growth.
Helping get access to players (especially former), staff, etc. who are comfortable speaking English to do interviews on the Sevillistas Worldwide podcast.
More YouTube translations
Maybe even some Spanish lessons on footballing terms. That would be kind of awesome actually.
More web content, especially for the players section to include the SAT guys and women. Help answer the question, who are these folks beyond football.
For me it boils down to connection to the club. Obviously it’s very easy to connect with the club when in Sevilla, but outside of Sevilla, the further you are the further removed you feel. I would love assistance in finding Sevilla fans. In my area Arsenal is huge and there are multiple bars that are designated as spaces for fans to congregate. It would be cool to see some type of program put together like that.
Of course haha, can be a great a way to pick up the language!!
In terms of English subtitles the aim is to have as much subtitled as possible, for example with player interviews this summer they have all been done. Is there anything specifically that you feel is being missed in terms of this?
Totally agree with leaning into the English players. We’re lucky to have a few players that can speak English so definitely want to take more advantage this season.
In terms of a pre-game/post-game show that is something I would love to explore one day but maybe in the future as it is just me in Sevilla this season on English content.
Would personally be happy to retweet other English content but might have to double-check what the club line is, potentially with criticism of players etc. Any photos you guys post of past games, visits to games defo can drop a RT. Retweeting and responding to comments is also something I would like to do more of though so be sure to tag the account!!
In terms of YT translations what kind of stuff do you mean?
Love the ideas on Spanish lessons on footballing terms: will see what I can do.
The web is something I really want to push this season. More bespoke previews, improved pre-match content and then a focus on the SAT and Women. One question I had on this was what were you guys’ opinion on match reports? In the age of instant highlights do you still read them? I have seen that other media stop publishing them and push focus elsewhere so was wondering what you would think of match reports perhaps not being published immediately post-match?
