I’ve been feeling very validated in my half-decade worth of mean-tweets about Rafa Mir, and my observation from when I met him in 2023 that he was also a true A*hole in person.
Honestly, I met over half the squad, mostly just brief interactions for an autograph, so not deep insights or anything. But Rafa Mir was the only guy who revealed himself to be a prick even in a 30-second interaction. And maybe Adrià Pedrosa, but only because he was hanging out with Rafa Mir during his free time between trainings and, therefore, I judged his character by association (way back in 2023, mind you!).
When I was 15 or 16 I used to do Photoshop/Illustrator to make wallpapers for mostly European youth basketball players (most often by request of the players themselves) for one summer. Think of players like Alexandros Antetokounmpo, Deni Avdija, Moussa Diabate and many more who didn’t quite make it or are already out of the NBA. I’'d probably have done it for longer if I didn’t receive requests back then from a couple of Barca, RM players and some young Americans, one of them Anthony Edwards. They were so damn arrogant that I went from idolizing many athletes/celebrities to not even watching any sport at all besides Sevilla FC. The only reason I kept watching Sevilla FC was actually Navas because I simply cannot imagine Navas being an arrogant a-hole. Fame does something unsober to the soul.

Per Spanish law, neither Mir’s sentence nor conviction are final until the end of the appeal process. Effectively, it’s “not innocent but not totally proven guilty.” That’s where it could get tricky. In the similar case of Santi Mina, Celta tried to banish him but his lawyers threatened legal action and Celta were forced to reintegrate him into training. Celta eventually shunted him off to the Gulf on loan. Sevilla may have to do the same with Mir.
Sorry, I was away from the forum for quite a while so might have missed out on your first-hand account on how he was a prick and asshole. Just curious though, was his behavior or any other thing that put you off?
Yeah, not sure if I retold it here, but it wasn’t anything major. Just that unlike the rest of the Sevilla boys who were all quite polite, even the shy ones, and the cantera boys were especially polite and even genial.
Not Rafa. He quick scribbled an autograph and then said “off you go” or something of that sort. Like I was some kind of critter to shoo away.
Anyhow, nothing drastic, just one of the moments were you notice the differences between players. Of course, I’m extrapolating a lot from that one interaction of 30 seconds or less, so certainly in forming my opinion of him, I’d put more weight on the rape conviction than on the one-rude-interaction-with-a-fan.
But yeah, that’s the story, nothing much, just not polite.
Andrián Liso - Played at Getafe last season, but is a Real Zaragoza player until 2029. Doubt Sevilla will pay the asking price of 3 million, but negotiations are still ongoing. Zaragoza would rather sell than loan out again. Three goals and 3 assists across all competitions, playing 1801 minutes. He was in Getafe’s starting XI 55% of the time and played 50% of the available minutes. Participated in 13% of Getafe’s goals.
Bryan Gil - With Girona going down, rumors of Bryan coming home to play have been mentioned. He is under contract with Girona until 2030. I’m not sure whether there are any clauses that would allow him to get out of his contract. More than likely a loan deal if true. Bryan was in Girona’s starting XI 57% of the time, played 50% of available minutes, and contributed to 8% of their goals.
Iván Martín - also at Girona - midfielder under contract for 2 more years (2028). Market value is 5 million, so again, hard for Sevilla to pony up that kind of money. Let’s see if his contract can be rescinded or if a loan option is available. He was in Girona’s starting XI 76% of the time, played 74% of available minutes, and contributed to 3% of their goals.
Akor Adams - Rumors of a move to Italy could be in store. No real details yet.
The transfer thread is always such a huge traffic-driver for the Forum every summer… For some reason I have a suspicion not so much traffic here this summer. Not because we’re not hungry for transfer rumors, but because there won’t be any. Other than a couple sales and loans, I fear our transfer window is already done …
Same here. This is all because of not selling the club. If they don’t sell the club, we’re going to be in a similar position like the last season, and we might not get that lucky.
I don’t trust them to sell. Hopefully they do but wouldn’t surprise me if they just rearrange the boardroom/power and call on internal help. In that way they stay in power but get financial support within the club from other shareholders and people and stay afloat.
They will sell eventually but only after they can’t loot anymore or they feel there’s no other way out. If they wanted to sell the club now they would have done it already in my view. They still need to address the capital increase too before June 30. It would have made sense to sell club before this mess.
Looking like another season of Junior and Castro and maybe they add to board of directors. I hope a sale happens but these people asking for too much money their shares aren’t worth now. They rejected Ramos and lappi and so far no other offers or close to what they want.
The world cup is definitely putting a hold on the biggest movements that will open up the market, but I agree. I also think there will be changes, but the biggest will obviously be on the selling side of things. Vargas has so far put some money on his value and the Juanlu-saga seems to continue.
Huge news! I thought he was a goner. That Newcastle would try and cash in. But maybe his value, despite almost singlehandedly keeping us in the top flight, didnt take flight. And it speaks volumes that he actually wants to continue here.
More good news and getting a few players out too. I think the board directors are taking the demonstrations against them personally and trying to sort more stuff out. This has been the best start to a summer transfer window in years.
Where does that leave Nylaand? Will he be happy to spend another season as 2nd choice at a club where there’s no European football on offer to give him games?
Weirdly, he’s looked much better in a Norway shirt than he ever did for Sevilla.
Nyland’s contract is near expiration and he’s moving on. I think I saw something about needing an operation, but either way he’ll be elsewhere next season
