They always flatter to deceive in la liga though. I’m not sure they have the consistency or mentality to take the next steps to secure higher league positions. Time will tell but in la liga terms they are still a long way behind us.
They have proven they can cope better in Europe but domestically we have a significant advantage on them which hopefully will hold up well for a few more seasons to come.
Decided to tune in for your italian team Jim, Inter - Lazio. Solid game from Inter at home against a mediocre performing Lazio.
Most striking things I found different is the way they play forward, just generally leads to more creative plays. They are constantly looking for those dangerous and risky passes who either break open a whole line, or can give the attacker an option that if the turn or touch is right immediately can continues the threat. So in the attacking way its more spontaneous, leading to more errors but also options. I think in Spain they are maybe a bit to obessed with structure and the passing game. Lope being one extreme, since he almost kills all spontanity in general. But as we´ve seen, almost none of our actual goals come from our structered play anyway. We are just creating a limited amount but just enough to get by and scrape these wins, of scrambles in the box, bad goalkeeping, corners. Good thing is we always manage to get something on the scoreboard however we play, with Ocampos and Mir being the main reason. It really is a miracle how long we can keep this up. But I feel like we are getting to a point where we start believing we can find a way to score in any game. Which is a better feeling than the how the hell are we going to score in this game? it´s still a question but I guess the worry is less and the faith is there. So that´s great.
Also the fear in Papu for hesitating and not looking for the things he could do in Italy is a big example of this. This self limiting conservative playstyle is just painful. If you can´t play the football that you are good at and are known for, Don´t get the player of that profile to convert him into something he´s not. Ofcourse you can adjust bits and pull some strings but god damn limit the amount of chains.
Other big difference is the change of pace, especially with how we play some of the games. The play from the back, try a slow build up and look for a first pass is fine but once you give it speed it up and assist the one receiving. So the pace changes as you go forward, with them having to react to quicker, make their decisions, on new dynamic movements from the players with attacking quality. We hardly change pace in that way. Build up to the side corner flag, by hardly speeding up the play but just by moving bit by bit slower until a person is on the wing. That´s the 0 surprise play, and the easies to defend. It is this passing speed and direction we are just so lame in. Meanwhile when Oliver gets to do a turn in a dangerous position and directly looks forward or sometimes Rakitic makes one run forward we directly create pressure. And it happens only one time a game. It´s just almost none existent in our idea of football. I think maybe Niller or Tim said this way we attack is already thinking about minimalize the risk of anything bad happening. And our defensive stability, although on the scoresheets a very fact. There have been numerous big slip ups, that have gone unpunished which resulted in us getting a lot of these ´big´ results lately. Our defense is generally good, but its a myth that its why we are winning, with how much we also do give away, with some woodwork and misses from open goal, all those 0-1 scorelines are hiding it nicely.
So if watching an italian game gets me rambling about our play it can´t be that bad atleast But as everyone has been saying, no argueing with results. Just curious were it takes us.
Found out that Chiesa of Juventus tore his ACL and will be out for the rest of the season. Most of the players don’t return to top form after the injury and it costs them a lot in their careers. He’s still young though and has a chance for a full recovery. I like this player as he’s an old-school type, playing with heart and improvising things to contribute for the team, he’s not a spoiled youngster like many of the modern-era players are - I really feel sorry for him but this is football and this is life in general
How does Newcastle waste their first 35m on a piece of Wood (6m market value). Don´t think that´s helping them to bring in big names. Incredible Business to start off their project.
I was debating with a friend that 75 mil that Juve paid for Vlahovic is just too much! I sure must not be alone to think like this. I honestly don’t think he’s world class material regardless of the good form in Fiorentina (they’re 7th currently).
It’s where the market is at. Especially since many other clubs were after him. He’s 22, scoring goals in bunches, but it’s also January. I think €50-60M is a fairer value for him, but there also isn’t many CFs around like him. Yea, Serie A has weak defences, but I still think he’s the real deal.
Do you think he deserves to be that high up on the list? Or is that you think our boy En-Nesyri is just as good, or better, and should be valued at that price too?
