Thanks for that.
I can only think its describing too many facets he wont just reveal. Player signings, but also the commitments they made, how they thought about going into the season, not seeing trends from the past years or being negligent into taking actions. Or just straight up misjudging our situation and the whole dynamic, of where it went under Lope. It definitely would be interesting to go real deep into those, but he knows he can’t go there and he doesn’t want to go there. Or maybe its even other insider things, people not aligning or maybe a missed call and we would have had Kvaratskhelia, who knows? But you hardly get those things completely open in public press in football. Unless its something like Ajax sporting director sending dick pics to female workers. ‘Mistakes’ summarizes it best.
Also the committee has decided the expulsion of Pape will stand, and reward Hermoso for being an idiot I guess.
And the guy attacking Marko Dmitrovic received 2 months jail plus 2 year area restriction.
I think he’s referring to the general situation which includes his errors in last summers transfer market, the financial situation of the club and possibly (just an hunch) the fact that Lope thought he could win la liga 3 years back when we didn’t sell Koundé and Carlos in deference to plan Lope when the normal protocol would be to sell.
Well, we’re taking a loss into the international break. 26 matches in and 2 points above relegation…
It may come as a surprise, but we’re officially out of the running for the league title It’s mathematically impossible for us to catch Barca. We can catch Real Madrid for 2nd though… Wanna place some bets?
As the season drags on, it’s looking less and less likely that we’ll qualify for European competition through league play. Here’s the breakdown.
While it might be hard to catch any of these teams, we’re still in the Europa League, and for whatever reason, we’re getting much better results there than in league. So who knows what will happen…
It’s fair to question whether we want to continue with Sampaoli. This team averaged .71 points per match under Lopetegui this season. We’re averaging 1.15 since Sampaoli took over. Is there someone that could kick us up another notch?
And… it looks like this might be the last post for Sampaoli… I wonder how many colors I can get into a single line on this graph…
ha! can you drop a vertical line where it switches from Sampaoli to ?
It’s official
El técnico vasco sucederá a Sampaoli en el banquillo tras el acuerdo alcanzado con el club de Nervión
Sevilla have finalized the signing of José Luis Mendilíbar , who will replace Sampaoli in the Nervionense dressing room after a hectic day in Sevilla. Sampaoli’s sentence is a matter of hours at the official level and it will be the Basque coach who replaces the Argentine, validating him until June 2023.
Hope he can work some magic and keep us up.
I liked him when he was at Eibar for what he did with no money, keeping them in la liga far longer than everyone expected.
Nothing reported yet on the Sevilla fc site. But then again they are always last to post any news regarding the club.
Let’s see how this pans out - remaining hopeful. Mendilibar is a serious coach and doesn’t experiment a lot, old school style.
Can’t say that we should keep him for a full season after the short stint until June, but if he keeps us in La Liga and if we play decently under him (especially away) then why not?
Wbere did it all go so wrong for Samps? Did the players just not trust his methods?
His methods with this group of players sucked IMO. Trying to play three in the back when you only had one maybe two healthy center-backs is just moronic.
Yeah, it just seemed very chaotic, bringing on all that paper work in matches. We havent really improved, we need sort of stability. For me the worst match was Athletico away. But as a club we are in such disarray. 3 managers in one season is crazy.
Wow I missed something here…
Here’s my take, make of it what you will.
Obviously the 6-1 defeat is enough, in my eyes, to probably move on, but the question is the termination. It’s expensive. On top of that, is there really a manager who can bring us back to where we should be?
Well he’s been sacked now so it is time to move on and hope that Mendilibar can help change the fortunes! With regards to your questions, I heard a fee of €5m has been agreed which was thew break clause in his contract if we were not in top 6 come May, but the club have negotiated with JS to take the payout and leave now.
We need to give him a chance as he knows the pressures of relegation, albeit taken his last 2 clubs down to the Segunda, maybe this is 3rd time lucky, we have to get behind him now and hope his 4-4-2 / 4-2-3-1 style can help, he just has to pick players on what they can do to help and not by name, as that could be the difference on the pitch. Mendilibar contract is until June with an option to extend for another 12 months if we escape relegation.
And regarding the coach, my feeling initially was that Sampaoli was the wrong coach when looking at his style of play and the players in this squad, but he has tried many things, some have paid off but some haven’t and also on many occasions the players have let him down and the club with their below par performances. BUT part of that for me is because they are past their sell by date, we got 11 players 30+ years old in this squad and they’ve seemed to lowered their own demands on their self, this has a knock-on effect within the squad and the fire has been put out. Hopefully a new coach with a new vision and settled system will help make the change on the pitch and the clubs fortunes…Vamos!!
Why not? Depends if our next year’s goal is to fight against relegation again or not.
These mid season firings that the board has put us through automatically complicated our decisions for successors. So they are just grabbing what’s available, the lowest hanging fruit, which is a classic demotion expert. Not sure if we could have find anything less promising, On paper.
There is always the hope that something clicks tho. And maybe instead of favouring his Argentine buddies, the Spaniards or a larger majority might be more inclined to Mendilibar. I’m just hoping against the better, to cope with it, they call it coping these days I thinks.
Also your new image has me cracked up and I don’t even know why. Probably the quickness of your change and the seriousness on that face.
Wbere did it all go so wrong for Samps? Did the players just not trust his methods?
I would imagine at least some dissatisfaction in the dressing room but much more likely it was a case of panic in the boardroom. The papers that were sent onto the pitch were not good optics either. And the disaster of the starting 11 against Getafe might have been the final straw.
But in Sampi’s defence, he said on taking the job he wouldn’t be able to revolutionize the football, just look to find ways to give the players more freedom to improve. He also remarked that the players weren’t fit enough, something we’d all witnessed with them running out of steam after 25 minutes under Lope.
My concern now is that while Sampi is a football philosopher he is clearly very adaptive to situations, his replacement Mendilíbar is also a philospher but without the vision or charm of Sampi.
I can see him ruffling feathers in the dressing room and creating a genuine relegation situation.
Got to have some sympathy for Sampi
According to Alberto Fernández on ‘Radio Marca Sevilla’, the Argentine coach asked to leave the club after the entity failed to fulfill the promise of bringing in 6-7 signings in January.
Casilda’s man felt cheated and told the club that he wanted to leave, but the entity referred to the contract and that he had to pay significant compensation if he left.
I can only think things got so bad internally. It seems a bit strange to sack him now. I think communication badly broken down with the players and the board etc.
Yes, I was told a couple days ago by Nach Liaño who I know quite well and gives me some info that he felt as though he was misled with the promises made when he agreed to sign, that they would strengthen with the players he needed and Monchi was the middle-man and also felt let down by the board because they went back on promises of the funds available and the fans have turned on him too…What a shit show!
