Opinions on Lopetegui's Sevilla

I agree. Lope is more passionate and interacts more with his players and fans. Mourinho is pretty dour in personality to be honest. He usually looks pretty miserable on the touch line or dugout.

All i’m saying results from the past are not the best thing to build on, because you start forgetting how you got these results. Now we are on top. I’m all about seeing how we progress. Not plainly about if we win 0-1 in Alaves in the future. Again after christmas, let’s see the ‘progress’.

Fair assessment for me.

If you’re referring to my post, then i’m sorry if it took a personal turn. But your last passage kinda underlines my point: it is either sack Lope because his style of play is boring, or keep Lope because he gets the points with whatever means necessary. And in my opinion that is too black/white and not really what this discussion should be about.

You make good points but I would never compare us to Real Madrid or Barcelona. As Sevilla have only ever won 1 la liga title in history and never in our lifetimes. Therefore a manager getting sacked at Real Madrid isn’t comparable to our situation. Due to the history, trophies, resources and how big the club is. There’s a huge gap in comparing all these things.

If lope did somehow win the title with us he’d be a legend forever. I mean as no one else has done it so would already put him at a god level. Despite how he did it. Albeit doing it in style would be better but however he did it, it wouldn’t matter much.

You are right that we need to be better going forward but I feel we have shown that overall at home. Lope is braver at home. Now he needs to apply that away from home to get us to next level. Let’s see what happens at Mallorca now.

You’re absolutely right.

With all being said though, we can all agree that Lope was without a doubt very necessary for the club. We needed someone like him to sort a lot of things out and at least put us in a spot where we can build something off of that and become a top club. I thought that Emery would be that coach, but he wasn’t - and that’s because of the league performances mostly, especially when playing away (except the 2014-15 season).

Referring to your last paragraph, now all Lope needs is for him to be braver on away matches… it’s not going to be easy but still not unachievable.

I won’t discuss much in here from now on because most of our opinions are already known and we can only repeat ourselves, but I still think that he’s not the coach to take us to the next level. I could however change that opinion considering how much progress we make until the end of the season.

That’s a good post and a fair assessment on the situation currently.

Same to be honest. As could you imagine the celebrations if we did win it? The fact is though we haven’t been dross all season. At home we been impressive but away form is where the problem lies and where the dross is mainly.

Still there is time to improve it but I’m pleased we overall hard to beat. I have always been a results guy before performance but let’s hope we keep both healthy.

Yeah that’s true. I’d never want us to be anything like them either. I’m glad we not.

We are not RM nor Barcelona and I agree we wouldn’t want to be like them. However, we definitely need to be a serious club for once, at least like Atletico. If we don’t aspire that, then what’s the point? Arsenal of La Liga? NO THANKS!

I agree. Many teams have done it in the past. Chelsea, inter and others for example. The fact is if we keep winning at home then we can afford a few away draws as long as we win a few too.

It is sometimes better to set up a bit more conservative away due to silencing the atmosphere and preventing the home team coming out the traps early. As some sides are strong at home.To help you hang in the game early and adapt to the surroundings.

I feel lope feels in certain games feels he can go for it, some we should go 50/50 then other times go for a squeeze/conservative. It all depends on the connection between manager and players and what they feel the best tactics are for that particular encounter.

As if we playing a side who have a fast or paced winger or forward then maybe it wise not to go guns a blazing straight off. Depends on line up and which players are fit and many other factors.

Still safe as houses for me :stuck_out_tongue:

He can’t be blamed for tonight.

Chose the right team and tried to play in the right way but the players didn’t turn up.

Safe as chips for me.

Conte wins leagues, but is quite shit in Europe. I don’t see that kind of management under Lope though.

He fostered the kind of performance that was on show tonight. If he wasn’t at fault tonight, he’s to blame for how the team have ended up this way.

I don’t know how many remember this play from World Cup 2018. Spain was ahead 1-0 to Russia… Isco gets the ball to start the counterattack… he then halts his sprint, then decides to go backwards. It wasn’t the first time it happened in the game either, it was just the clearest indication that they just wanted to keep the ball, instead of looking for a 2nd goal. Lope had already been fired from the job, but his fingerprint was all over that team.

And that’s the problem i have with Lope right now. We don’t know how to play any other way. It’s always this safe playing out from the back, where our players don’t know how to take risks anymore. Once it doesn’t work, he just gets desperate and the gameplan is out the window.

Oscar Rodriguez is rotting on the bench while this team is in need of creativity. I’m not saying Oscar is the answer, but playing a player like that is something that helps a team overall. Someone to look for, who won’t shy away from making themselves available for the ball. Hell, Suso might even work better at #10 than on the wing right now. The right sub woulda been Oscar for Delaney, and not Jordan.

If we get knocked out the Champions League, then fine. It’s not for everyone. But don’t show me a lack of growth in the league neither.

Yeah I agree there, certain things that are hammered in a team for 3 years don’t get out of it by the next day. That’s when the wiring is all messed up and you need a hard reset basically. But we all know what happens if we end 4th

Same thing that I disliked about why we sold Bryan Gil. He is loaded with creativity, they also see that in Spurs. Maybe its not all coming out of it, but its investing playing time and experience to grow and get it out of him eventually. Mutual trust, confidence. And a talented player will pay you wonders.

You can’t be a manager of a club, if you are not willing to play around the club (you can, but in my opinion you shouldn’t). The talents is what a club thrives on. If you aren’t allowing substitute wingback or versatile midfielder in the squad from the youth ranks. How are you improving? It’s a selfish mentality to play for the result. With all veterans. Which I guess is where Monchi and Lope have found eachother in. But this is costing us in a different aspect. And I don’t like it. Possibly there is no talent close to it in our academy, but Spain is huge. And you don’t necessarily need a 27 year old 7m leftback to cover that, unless Lope asks for it. Which is why we have him. And I have nothing against Augustinsson. Just as an example.

Interesting observation there Edi. I think Lope and Simeone have a lot of similarities, especially in that they want to stabilize the defense and play it safe. However, Simeone’s counter-attacking system and productivity in the attack is immense. That’s what Lope lacks, and we need someone with that capability too.

Lopetegui on his arrival in Sevilla ‘A good manager can play any system, good players can adapt to any system’ … Today’s press ‘Rony Lopes and Idrissi are victims of Lopetegui’s system that doesn’t favour outright wing players’

No sólo no tenía sitio sino que el que ocupa su rol en el equipo, el marroquí Idrissi, también tiene un papel secundario para un Lopetegui que no juega con extremos puros

I wonder if the press report is a true interpretation or just wishful thinking.

Personal Development Is it not part of the Manager’s job to ensure the personal development of players? I see players that need guidance, notably Ocampos who has a very long list of desirable qualities that seem to have stagnated. Comparing to Emery who was the only manager able to raise the abilities of Fernando Navarro and converted a very basic Coke into a class player. Also got the very best out of Bacca, Iborra, Vitolo and Ben Yedder. Can we say something similar is happening now?

This is not what i imagined Lopetegui Season 3 to look like.

I don’t care if all he’s won is a German Supercup, bring me Lucien Faivre. These players need to express themselves.

Edinho I like you but this is a laughable comment and poor take. You never know what you have till it’s gone.
