Opinions on Lopetegui's Sevilla

Don’t expect it to happen of course (got to be realistic) but what a move that would be. Maybe he’d see us as a stepping stone to bigger things elsewhere in La Liga?

I think he’d see it as a step down, I can’t see it at this moment with this squad.

True. Could see us as a bit of a challenge (putting it lightly) to make a real success of.

We all know he did excellent jobs at Southampton and Spurs. The guy likes a project.

Being realistic Marcelino is a more likely option but we’ll see.

I was reading an article on Lacolinadenervion and a quite educated chap, apparently, saying he’s never ever whistled at the players in a Sevilla game but under Lopetegui the players have whistled at him !

Trouble ahead, they’re upset.

We need to change our style of play. We are too predictable, and above all start putting our chances away.

A couple of days back, after the Rony Lopes transfer, he gave some words as well. It came down to how he had a multiple of top clubs to choose from at the time, and straight up came to Sevilla because of his conversations and how he was treated by Monchi. And then in Sevilla, he claims even when his physique was quite good, better than others. Lope hardly had spoken with him, he would only be in the list for Europa League, in the weekends he could stay home. He got ignored by him straight in his face and only have spoken a few times and he was told he would be important in the future… Ofcourse it’s all Rony his side, and firing after you’re gone is not the most beautiful. But his case in general has been strange so i’m not surprised.

He contributed for two of Troyes goals so far (2 assists) after just arriving there…

Could Poch actually happen? A few reports now. Apparently he turned down Bilbao.

It’s all stemming from the same Estadio Deportivo report, which was an informal inquiry from a “well-trusted source.” Long story less long:

If we won each of our next four league games, we’d match Lopetegui’s average point tally through MD 8 (12.67).

If we won each of our next seven league games, we’d match last year’s point tally through MD 11 (22).

I doubt we will get even close. Our next 3 La Liga matches are Espanyol, Villareal, and Atletico Madrid. All are decent teams. We couldn’t beat newly promoted Almeria or Valladolid. I do not rate our chances very high here. Our defense has many holes and our offense is lacking any real threat. Frankly and unfortunately, I am fully expecting us to be in the relegation zone in a month from now. During the next month we also have a bunch of Champions league matches which will wear us down even more. It is not looking good for us.

I think you can keep delaying the inevitable and trying to give Lopetegui once last chance to turn it around, but by doing that everything becomes all the more desperate and a new manager/caretaker faces a herculean task to turn it around.

Time to tear it all down and start again. Get a manager in who can motivate and inspire the players, coaches who can get the team playing some sort of coherent football and let’s see where it goes.

At some point Castro and Monchi need to step forward and answer for this debacle.

I also feel the players are just tired (especially Isco) of working and proving stuff for him. Atleast with a new trainer, everybody gets a fair chance again. And it definitely elivates the spirits and attitude. Which is just at rock bottom at this point.

Just need to have a replacement, the only impediment.

@Edinho for manager!

We do but I don’t think there’s a quick fix here. The rot has well and truly set in. I really fear for us and just hope we can stay clear of the relegation zone at this rate. We are so lifeless right now. There is so many to blame for our problems including lope, Castro, Monchi, rest of board and the players.

Paulo Sousa, Roberto De Zerbi, Rafa Benitez, Pochettino, Florian Kohfeldt, Adi Hütter, Thiago Motta.

I’d almost be excited to see Jose Bordelas or Sam Allardyce rock up if it meant some kind of change

Tried to do some research on Lopetegui’s cláusula, couldn’t really find an answer, but just as a thought experiment, he was apparently making $6m per year when he signed for Real Madrid. Surely significantly less than that for Sevilla. So even if we pay his full wages through end of his contract, that costs us something less than 10m, likely much less than 10m. So this idea that his buyout is 12m just can’t be realistic. At this point if you told me it would cost less than 10m to turn the page, I think I’d take it. Page needs to be turned
