Why is Lope still in a job?
I think they finally see the dificult situation they have created, but now they see it they know it needs time to get better, which they will be giving as long as the pressure on Lope isn’t rising to the extreme. So they give it some time, before they pay 12m (that nobody wants to pay) to make a new start. One victory in the first coming 3 (max.4) games is the limit he will have. After that the pressure will have risen to the unworkable, and will be forced to sack. And then still it will take time. The problem is, even if you let Lope finish the year, he will still have another year on his contract. Most optimal scenario now (which we have gotten ourselves to blame for it to even reach this scenario), is If he has honor, he will get to an agreement with the club to separate next summer if he survives the coming weeks, and rescind the contract. If he doesn’t and is in it for the money, he can force the club to pay the contract.
It’s all depending on hope, time and pressure.
one victory in the first 3 (max 4.) with an uprise from there with regular victories and a mid table finish can do the job to satisfy the loss for this year.
The point i don’t get is how is our financial situation bad? if you just netted 70m more or less.
If the goal of the board are long long long term, as they have been stating with all the 4th place goals. They definitely prefer holding on to 12m (lope’s fee). And throw away the year and saving the money, over paying the clause. Atleast the feeling I have.
I think that sometimes when people are really dedicated to a project there’s a reluctance to see or believe it’s going wrong, in our case, one win will see big smiles on players and directors faces and a surge of optimism. But smiles don’t win football matches.
When we didn’t sell our best players in Summer of 20 and 21 we eased out of the ‘sell to grow’ paradigm and consequently don’t have any new young talent that will appreciate in value. It’s impacted our standing and the club have overreacted in panic with a confused transfer strategy.
I’ve no doubt our style of football hasn’t helped get new players.
It might be November before the accounts for year 21/22 are partly revealed.
I think we’ll be discretly approaching managers shortly.
I don’t know but I wish we did 1 or 2 year contracts for managers.
At this point we probably can’t afford a top manager.
I think this is accurate. I just took a quick look at the sum of arrivals and departures (€) since the 16/17-season at transfermarkt. Granted, it is quite simplified and I’m not even sure how transfermarkt includes different bonues and add-ons, but nonetheless I am seeing a pattern:
16/17 | 17/18 | 18/19 | 19/20 | 20/21 | 21/22 | 22/23 | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Arrivals | 81,70 | 78,05 | 81,05 | 188,73 | 72,75 | 41,50 | 28,00 |
Departures | 93,45 | 81,60 | 93,80 | 131,45 | 19,68 | 28,50 | 91,50 |
Balance | 11,75 | 3,55 | 12,75 | -57,28 | -53,07 | -13,00 | 63,50 |
With the signing of Lope (19/20) it seemed like the club were going all-in for succes and investing in it here and now. We didn’t sell our keyplayers and even invested in some new, which is a whole other approach than what we were used to. When Monchi claims we had to balance the books this transfer-window, it is because the investment didn’t give the expected outcome. So we are now in a limbo with hardly any cash, no players with any real resale-value and the results are going against us. I understand him completely if they are not eager to pull the trigger and sack Lope because it will be a huge gamble, but I can’t see any other way around it that it is our own responsibility that we have ended in this situation. We need a win and we need it badly.
I still remember a member on a local forum strong against Lopetegui even before official appointment in 2019 summer (before any of us), describing it as “A foreign body invade Sevilla”.
He’s disappointed by this decision to the point that #MonchiOut #CastroOut is already there on June 2019.
I can’t really understand what’s wrong with that dude at that time, but now I definitely think he’s right.
Even with the 3 consecutive 4th he accomplished, that in expense of boring football & -50M every year, I can count one hand with matches that I enjoy after Banega left.
Also another argument for how Lope is carried by players.
When he arrives the biggest investments are made.
And they have to do everything to maintain them, while getting extra investments. Now 2 players leave and hell breaks loose lol.
Now some learn to actually respect past trainers more, who achieved more with less.
Interesting names in the free agent market, but some are free agents for a reason. Nonetheless we got: Pochettino, Sampaoli, Marcelino, Villas-Boas, Marco Rose, Bielsa, Benitez & De Zerbi, just to name a few.
I’m pretty sure Pochettino is the obvious answer here, but any among the others you think we should consider?
Sampaoli, Marcelino and Marco Rose from that bunch.
Sampaoli and Bielsa are fun to watch, but I don’t think that they are good for the long term option. Marcelino and Vilas-Boas maybe the best options.
Could Pochettino be our own Simeone?
Simeone & Atletico are an anomaly. It’s so rare that a coach stays that long at a club of that level. Pochettino has been twerking so much for R. Madrid that i’m sure he’ll go there as soon as Florentino calls.
I think Marcelino is most realistic. I’d take him. Especially if we end up stuck in the bottom half. He could help steady the ship a bit and prevent a crisis situation. He’s a very experienced la liga coach
He wouldn’t come to us.
Plenty of calls for Lope to go from fans in the stadium at the end of the game last night, plus around a hundred or so who waited outside as the team boarded the bus.
If you can understand a bit of spanish

They have threads on Monchi, Lopetegui, all the players and all the games.
Nobody sticks around anymore, but Poch would be a dream hire. Half this squad will be gone next summer if someone will take them.
I rarely visit that site but I’ve been reading a lot of their posts recently - agreeing with most of them.
What helps is Google Chrome with automatic translation and it’s almost as if you are in an English speaking forum.
It’d be good to convert some of their potential English speakers to MM.
Thanks for this one. Never much went into this one. But I definitely will. Less sugarcoating and forced optimism, as well as fans of football it seems on first glance.
Estadio deportivo reporting that one board member is pushing to enquire the availability of Pochettino. I wouldn’t read too much into that because for starters he’s probably not interested but it appears that cracks are forming.
