The point is the same, either if it’s 9m, 10m or 12m. We will pay a huge amount. And it’s not little. Realistic enough. Besides they renovated his contract with the extension half way through, so he’s not on his first salary either thus he definitely got an upgrade in the times of hosanna.
Everything is going against this club, that the inevitable seems to be upon us. Coach could be saying all the right things in the dressing room too, and i still don’t think it would help. The players are mentally shot.
Maybe they bounce back with the upcoming games at Espanyol & Copenhagen. But a bounce back to that abysmal level we’re accustomed to? where they can’t build on a 1-0 lead? can we even keep a 1-0 lead anymore?
We love complaining about Jordan, but that was something else last night. The man can’t even trust his own ability anymore. I’ve said before that he’s emblematic of this Sevilla side, and he’s reached a new low, and so have we.
A lot of what’s gone bad isn’t Lope’s fault: last season’s injury crisis, Kounde fiasco, Marcao’s fitness, raised ticket prices, no change in the midfield, along with a mediocre rebuilding job in the summer. However, many of the groans stem from what he’s been doing with this team: UCL group stage exit, lack of goalscoring, lack of improvement of players outside of Bono-Kounde-DC, along with an approach that has provided zero inspiration.
Who knows what was said to him after it was announced he would be staying for a 4th season, but that decision has (so far) blown up in everyone’s face. The worst case scenario has happened, but somehow i still feel like the club is reluctant to cut ties with him. Regardless, the fact remains that this team is in the gutter, and we have never seen them fight back.
No personal development of players, in fact they go down the tubes in their first months or in the first year like Ocampos, En Nesyri, Lamela, Suso, Jordan, Tecatito. He takes all the shine out of them.
No team development either, no sign of any functioning strategies.
That squad needs a complete overhaul, there’s a lot of deadwood with little to no resale value. Everything that made Sevilla successful in the transfer window seems to have gone completely out the window.
Whist the start of the season has been a disaster, I personally feel the manager has enough credit in the bank to give him time to work out a system.
I know many will disagree but I genuinely hate seeing managers sacked prematurely
Leipzig and Chelsea sacked their coach today after bad results, next Sevilla? Tuchel is free agent now also interesting fact.
As has been said Lopetegui has been acting like a lightning rod for criticisms towards this team, so I do have some sympathies for him, but he’s deluded! In the post-match press conference he’s talking about how he gets stronger as the pressure increases. Meanwhile you have Bonou in tears, players sat with their heads in their hands. It needs to stop, it’s not healthy!
I’d take Tedesco from Leipzig over Tuchel, Tuchel would be too combative (and expensive) right now.
RB Leipzig sacked their coach in one and a half seasons after these results:
Last season (for only half a season since December 2021) he took RB Leipzig to the EL semis, won the DFB Pokal (German cup) and finished 4th in Bundesliga.
That’s quite brutal, but it shows how serious teams operate. RB Leipzig has a higher footballing standard than us in this case. With those results, it’d be a consensus to keep Lope or someone else for at least until the end of the season, and that’s worrying.
The management is not acting fast enough. @Edinho summed it up perfectly - even if we bounce back and somehow manage to win against Espanyol or Copenhagen… what would be bounce back to? The last 2 seasons were mediocre enough in terms of play, the difference was that we had a lot of luck, a Fernando, DC and Kounde in top-form and the others were in robot-mode, relying on low-level memorized tactics rather than decent football and proper strategies. This is what that gets you to.
We could’ve easily had this kind of start or form in the last 2 seasons as well - nothing has technically changed. A LOT of opponents were all over us and we were often lucky not to concede 4-5 goals against them, one I can think of right now is Bilbao… the match that we somehow, miraculously won with like 1 shot on goal and 7-8 against. So we were abysmal way before this, it’s not a new thing for us.
Someone please recommend Lope to Leipzig and Chelsea.
I know it would be a miracle for any decent club to pay Lope release clause, but it sounds more realistic than taking more than 3 pts in next 3 league match to me.
You’d be surprised how sometimes players lift up when a new manager comes in. Faith, good talk, new systems and some unexpected fish may start to suddenly fly.
Us appearing now to not having any qualities is enhanced by the negativity and the mentality (bred by Lope). Some players might have forgotten that they can play football. A new persona, new chances and new hope, can do a lot.and suddenly players start to run twice as fast, even ours.
It was sad to see that last night most of the players were focused on keeping the ball (without any idea what to do with it) and passing backwards as soon as possible. I’ve counted at least 3 opportunities when the players could’ve passed to their free teammates in the mid and start creating a good chance - instead they passed backwards or lost the ball with a terrible pass / lob-pass. Papu almost costed us at least 2 goals in this match and the one vs. Osasuna with back-passing… he’s the kind of player that is made to attack and look forward, not to pass back to the CB or the GK.
It’s a mentality problem, on top of a tactical one - and things won’t be fixed, by Lope, ever, let alone this season.
Says what I think many have said on this Forum. We’re in a bind which no one solution can resolve.
PS - Del Nido ni en foto.
Meeting of the executive presently underway.
Still nothing?
Lopetegui will continue as coach of Sevilla for another week, waiting for what happens in the match against Espanyol. Now an explanation would be convenient for us to understand what is now incomprehensible. This chaotic situation and the reasons for this immobility.
It always seems that when we play against a team with their managers head on the block we lose and save him.
Let’s see if the boot is on the other foot this weekend.
Then there is this…
Lopetegui can be dismissed today. At first they were going to extend more time, but they are already working on the substitute, when they are clear, Julen Lopetegui will be dismissed. Looks like he has hours left at the club.
for this, not another week!
stay of execution it is.
Hopefully the management is not silly enough to think that the game vs. Espanyol or Copenhagen will possibly change anything. FFS!
The dismissal is one season or at least 3-4 months late already.
I also think that we’d be an interesting adventure for any ‘free agent’ coach out there, even for Pochettino.
Ancelotti managed Everton (without much success) before going to RM, so Pochettino could join us, stabilize us or win something with the club for 1-2 seasons and then join RM or another top club.
However, the more possible options seem to be Marcelino and Sampaoli. Anyone else like Javi Gracia and the likes - Lopetegui staying automatically becomes a better option.
