And it’s official. Monchi is out at Villa.

I’m surprised with how things have gone for Monchi. It looks like his only fully successful stint as a sporting director was his first time at Sevilla. Every other time it looks like it’s been a struggle, including the second time here, though to a somewhat lesser extent.

So…awkward question. Is now a good time to discuss dropping the Monchis Men name for our community? When Monchi left, I defended the idea of keeping it, but now I’m starting to feel more partial to the more neutral Sevillistas Worldwide.

Rumours are he’s off to Benfica to link up with Mourinho :eagle:

Monchi with money doesn’t work. Monchi without a ton of of cash works.

Yeah, I think I agree, though more than the money itself, I think it’s just about the types of challenges of building a team at a top level, they’re just fundamentally different when you’re playing with/bringing together a group of players who are all HUGE in wherever they’re coming from. Building in that environment is just totally different than the lower and middle tier of football where Monchi cut his teeth.

I think his new project with San Fernando might actually be a great project for him, though I sort of think it’s just an excuse to take a year of a more relaxed pace. It’s obvious from his remarks over the years that it’s hard for him not to get overwhelmed by the pressures of the top flight stressors. I bet he’s a bit burnt out.

I haven’t kept a massive eye on the behind the scenes at the club recently, but I am guessing Orta has gone?

haha oh yeah. You have a lot ot catch up on. We hired a former Betico in his replace. Monchi’s now at a club that is just starting up and Orta is well, I’m not sure. Maybe trying out for the next season of Narcos.
