Just a note…Del Cerro was the VAR ref from the Celta match. Maybe he was trying super hard not to feed into the conspiracy.
I don’t think that there is a conspiracy, I just think most La Liga refs just plain suck. I will be doing a calculation on fouls, yellows and reds over the last 5 years by team soon. I’m also curious to see the number of penalties by team as well as where each ref is from.
I suspect that part is a bit tricky, as there is always a few different ways of understanding where a ref is “from”. Could be a Andalusian family who migrated to Catalunya or Madrid, to give a common example.
But if by “from” you mean doing UEFA analysis or similar, that might actually be cool to see whether Spanish refs when reffing in Europe ref close to the median of all refs, or if they are as card-happy abroad as they are when reffing in Spain.
It’s a long one but we went and all I could hear were the Sevillistas singing, and when we got home and I said i’ll pass on Valencia (even though they won) Paco didn’t say a word to me and my wife said I had upset him and he said I am not welcome to go to any future game with him etc…
Well from that day forward Sevilla became my Spanish team. I came to RSP in 2007 as a Spurs fan and returned to Sevilla 3 years later as my mate was setting up business in Sevilla and asked for my expertise to setup the IT side, when I returned I was a 25% partner in his business and part of that was to look after the Sevilla branch so frequent trips, but in 2012 I bought him out and took over the business and my wife got a job in a British school so we moved over initially for 2 years to see how it went and the rest is history…
