The last substitution was horrific. As much as I dislike Bordalas he does have Valencia playing good football and Getafe without him is a train-wreck. Guedes is starting to shake-off the frustrating tendencies of youth and is becoming a player.
I think we still expect a bit too much. I mean yes he can improve in parts but this guy got us 70 points and 77 points in last 2 seasons. Thatās better than any other managers we had including the greats like Emery and Juande Ramos.
He does need to be a bit braver but to be fair to him he made the changes we asked for. He also brought on ocampos and Oscar earlier at half time. He did try to win the match multiple times. The players also need to step up a bit too. Some of them are but a few of them are so far not at the required level they were in the past.
I think the last 2 seasons have us thinking big. Itās got us demanding more. Still itās a big ask to win the title and we all know this deep down. However, I still expect us in the mix because we are solid and hard to beat. I also expect Barca and the Madrid clubs to slip up a bit too. None of the teams look invincible. Id say probably Real Madrid look the best so far.
Mark, I agree. Lopeās record speaks for itself and is up there with the very best Sevilla managers.
Okay his football at times is negative and decisions and tactics questionable, but you canāt argue that heās a top class manager. So personally speaking, I donāt even know how his future as manager can be up for discussion. Weāre lucky to have him.
I agree. Itās personal preference whether you like his football or not but no one can argue that he hasnāt helped take us to the next level. Heās managed to get us in the champions league comfortably in his first 2 seasons. We hardly ever did that under any other manager.
I do think we will improve going forward but itās a results business and lopetegui is the best sevilla manager at getting results and reaching objectives.
Im upset with this result but I donāt think we should sack him. Like @Aduk92 has pointed out, Lopetegui is certainly one of our best coaches in very long time. I mean we did get a record amount of points last year.
I agree. I think heās a solid manager, even if his games are hard to watch. He has put up good results and brought us to our highest point total ever. That being said, I donāt think he quite has what is necessary to win la liga.
Even still, I trust Lopetgui. However, if we keep getting draws, then maybe it would be acceptable to look for a replacement. Weāre still undefeated in the league
It isnāt up for discussion.
If Sevilla are 8th in the league at Christmas, it will not be a discussion for the board of directors, it will be a formality.
For now heās safe. Weāll see how it goes.
[Edit] Sevilla sacked Manolo JimĆ©nez while Sevilla were 3rd in la liga, precisely because they werenāt inspired by the football, it had become too Lopetegui.
The problem is though who could do better than lopetegui? I think we would more than likely go backwards than forwards with another coach. In fact with a lesser coach we might have lost that match today.
Well imo you should always demand more until you reach the place you wanna be. I do have huge respect for Lope and his results, but at the end of the day he has a point-record to show for it and not much else. Not saying that isnāt impressive, but doesnāt he have a squad that has more quality than the most recent managers?
I donāt think we should sack him. I do think however that we should be demanding at least (!) fourth place, a decent run in the Champions and the Copa - otherwise itās just becoming a stalemate.
One or two on here have suggested he should go. A few have said heās lucky also. Yes heās had moments of luck but you donāt manage two seasons of 70+ points tallies and comfortable top 4 with luck.
So far this season hasnāt been as inspiring as we could have hoped for, but 8 points from 4 games is a solid return and weāre very much up there with other big teams dropping points. A long way to go yet and Iām sure weāll come good.
In Lope we trust.
We should only consider sacking him if results really go awry, we way off top 4 and also they have someone they think is an upgrade lined up. Currently it will be very difficult to find a better manager than lopetegui who will want to come to us.
I still think we are lucky to have him as we still not seen as one of the big clubs in Europe. We are still a feeder club for the very big clubs albeit we doing better at holding on to our better players. The pandemic probably helped us in a weird way hang on to our key players.
I still think we will come good but we just got to be patient. Itās a long season ahead and Iām confident we still get at least top 4 again.
Always thought you were a little too forward to want him out since season 1, but he has yet to prove you wrong.
Itās a case of careful what we wish for. We could get a mediore manager to replace him whoās boring and also doesnāt get results then we regress. I say stick with what we got. We have a solid foundation here and the players and lope have built up a stronger sevilla.
Iām not saying Lope out, but I said it before, the results (of which luck has been a big part) and solid defense and miracle saves the other parts have been the only points holding him up. The total squad is the best it has been since a long time, we have the same core and we should be ahead of other teams but we are actually just crumbling. He can end the season for me and weāll see where we board the shore in the end (if we donāt strand before) But expect some heavy waves and our once so solid boat her cracks will become bigger and bigger.
Iām of the believe like Shendm that itās down hill from here, I said it before we can easily become 7th (or worse) and if thatās where we are at in a few months. Something will happen, like Tim said.
There are hardly positives to take away from our performances.
If we donāt even have the attitude to beat lower tier teams? How are you going to end above many of them is my question?
We only played 4 league games so far though. Letās give it time. Soceidad away draw isnāt bad. I agree we should do better at elche though. Letās see after more games and when the players get more into their rhythm.
Also the general term for a trainer to have a successful period at a club is about two years. All positive aspects at first become more negative, the effect is simply worked out, done, and no longer effective. There are just rare cases where a manager (passenger at a club) is so aligned with everything the club stands for that he just becomes part of the way of thinking for the club and itās identity.
And letās all be honest, Lope doesnāt bring that. I donāt want this identity. To me, Lopeās Sevilla doesnāt make me associate anything of the things that I want to see in football and enjoy. Also outwards the image of this Sevilla, is becoming negative. I donāt mind him finishing the year, we donāt need to rush into a new manager. Like a panicking club. At the end of this year it will come to a natural death. And we can spurt out and grow into a more positive direction next year.
@Aduk92 - Itās ultimately a matter of perspective at this point. If a fan is ok to become the Arsenal of La Liga then the other isnāt. If a fan thinks the board cannot get a better coach than Lope and we could end up worse with another coach, although with arguably the best squad and depth in years, others might not think so.
I think that literally nothing has changed in terms of philosophy, approach, tactics and way of thinking for Lope since his first season here - so he has unfortunately not evolved or shown signs of improvement in blatantly obvious errors and wrong-doings. The EL mini tournament triumph was literally the complete antonym of āblessing in disguiseā. I canāt find the right word or saying but it was a trap that even Lope fell in because he was not the one to take this club to the next level a.k.a being a top club to begin with.
Lope is a decent solid coach, but we are only stagnating and wasting time with him. There should have been very clear improvements by the third season at helm and literally nothing has improved.
My father has been watching Sevilla with me from the moment I became a fan, although heās a Barca fan since a long time - he remembers the Kanoute, Fabiano, Alves and co. era and nostalgically said recently what this club has become and how it was back then, in terms of beautiful and exciting play - because of which many of us fell in love with Sevilla in the first place.
I honestly wouldnāt mind becoming the new Atletico, winning titles (not only EL but La Liga and the more important ones) and becoming a fearful force in Europe. But playing boring and conservative and totally shifting from the clubās identity only to finish 4th and get knocked out early in CL? Thatās what Arsenal have been doing for decades - itās a pathetic club for a reason.
Some might not remember though, Atletico were often called āPateticoā until Simeone took charge. We were mocking them in this very same forum back in 2010 or so. They were almost never winning the matches they were expected to win and always chickened out when push came to shove - couldnāt make that big step to become a top club. Look at them now. We still have a good chance to become such a force, but things have to change.
