It’s hard for Papu sometimes, when there is nothing much happening, around him. I think watching a game of prime Atalanta and see what type of interplay their forwards and wingbacks had. Is something else. We can’t be like. Hey Papu, go be creative. Its not how it works. You need runners or people draggin or diving into spaces, or setting up for quick one-twos, for you to be able to get something going.

Our midfielders tend to play far away from the goal. It bothers me to the bone (out of pity for Fernando), when out of all people HE is the one appearing in the box to make runs throughout so many games. I love him for it and it bothers me from the others.

Rafa Mir scored a hat-trick in the Olympics, that is really the sum total of his fame. If all goes well he’ll score 8 to 10 per season, or I’ll eat

I’m indirectly also saying. In a bad team, Youssef does better.
Inherent to their styles, Rafa doesn’t create he is made for the box and for finishing. Nesyri is made for athletic runs and jumps, speed and workethic.
Different players, different strengths.
I promise he’ll be a superb number 9.

Absolutely.
Without good movement from forwards and without good enough link-up options around the box it is extremely difficult to create good chances/attacking moves even for someone like Papu Gomez.
Until Ocampos and Torres are back we need Papu and Erik to play closer to each other to create sharp one-twos and triangles with other attackers to inject more pace and effectiveness against defensive teams, imo.
And hopefully Monchi will bring a high quality forward and a high quality CB in the next few days too.

Get Ozan Kabak. He is better than Rekik. He can at least distribute the ball properly. We need to play out of defense instead of using too many deep lying playmakers.
Last season’s problem still exists. We can’t go quick and we can’t play trough the middle. We need to swarm around the opponent’s box. We can’t crowd in and around the box like RM or Mcity does.

I also like the 2 striker Idea. And I think it can give Youssef more help to work with, we saw how Rafa Mir and Youssef combined to score the winner against Getafe. But Lope does these things out of despair late in the game. He has done it from the start once in a blue moon, in the Copa or against one of the Big two (Just to throw them off and saw another team do the same 1 week before). But he doesn’t give time to actually learn the system as a team. He uses it for pure opportunism.
4-4-2 in the core is a difficult formation, when your not working as one force, there is literally zero control in the centre. This is why I was shocked that Getafe hurt us that bad, even more under Michel who did the same when he was our Manager.
I’m pretty sure, under Lope this won’t change. He’ll only put in 4 attackers when desperation strikes.

This is why games like these should be won. Atletico is losing (could max. draw) vs. Villarreal. RM and Barca at 7 points each, we could’ve gotten ahead with 9 points had we won vs. Elche.
Unacceptable. The season is surely long and there’s a lot to play for, but these ‘small’ mistakes have historically cost us and refrained us from winning La Liga or at least seriously challenging for the title.

Still though it shows us how competitive la liga is right now. No team is easy and all 4 top teams will have tough games where they drop points. Considering we were losing to Elche I will still take the draw and we are level at the top of the league. It’s a shame we didn’t get more but it’s early and the team still needs time to find it’s rhythm.
We have 7 points from 9 and a strong squad overall. I have watched all of Real Madrid, Barca, atleti and us and none of the big 4 look like they will run away with it this season. There’s weaknesses in all the teams and things to work on. The rest of the teams have better players now and have organised units that make it difficult.

Atlético Madrid drawing is obviously good for us. Shame about them equalising at the end but we’ll still take that. Kind of feels like we’ve got away with that Elche draw!
The league this season looks more competitive than it has been in years. I don’t think us and any of the ‘big four’ will find it easy. Tough campaign ahead!
