La Liga Season 25-26 Thread

Levante winning doesnt change our situation. We still have to win or hope Alaves lose against Barca.

Elche also going Down now and Mallorca play Levante next.

we have to do the job ourselves.

If Celta lose to Bilbao on the weekend, they would potentially need to fight hard against us to keep a place in Europe. The battle for a place in Europe is also getting more interesting.

Even though we have won the last couple of matches and at times even played well, the results of other teams, and our 3 remaining fixtures show that there is still a mountain to be climbed, both to get a result from tomorrow’s match against Villareal, and to stay up. Its clear evidence that a league season has 38 matches and not just the two that we have now won consecutively. The fact we even beat Espanyol after a 92nd minute goal was a miracle. Now we have to do it again. We have a bad away record having lost to Levante, Oviedo and recently, Osasuna. Something has to give.

I will also say that todays developments are very interesting and I hope positive. The reality that the fee paid for the club will wipe the debt is great in itself and Sergio Ramos will be in the centre of it is great to have someone who knows the club also. I hope they can pass the owners and directors test very soon and we can make some real inroads. It will also be interesting to see what happens with Antonio Cordon. I dont think he has done a bad job with the little resources he has had. He had to sell anyone of real financial value (Lukebakio, Idumbo, Badé, while also being in negotiations to sell Carmona and Juanlu). Alexis has at least got us some points and Odysseas, Mendy and Azpilicueta have not been our worst players this season. But the new owners may have other plans.

Out of all the new signings/loans, Mendy has disappointed me the most. I expected a lot from him and he played quite well for a couple of months… only to completely fade away and even lose his starter spot.

Re: Leeds United

After 20 years of absolute carnage at our club we have finally found ourselves a decent owner. Three years in office now and it has been gradual improvement on and off the field. Without stability you can never move forward.

Key to this season was actually data led recruitment as we identified physically imposing players who had good experience. Our only failed signing was the GK when the team manager and recruitment team were split and both compromised on their preference. A no dickheads policy is also in operation and the tightness of the changing room has been huge in how we have played, with everyone prepared to go the extra mile.

Even then we were heading for relegation until key players forced a formation change which suited the squad better and with a 3421 line up we were solid for the remainder of the season.

P.s. Nice touch with the ‘bitter Leeds fan’. Pretty sure with hindsight you can see I was bang on about Orta and you were pretty clueless. Orta is stacking up an impressive list of failures and one wonders how he is still employed in the industry. Visionary Leeds fan more like.

I think you can be both bitter and correct

Congrats on the better trajectory and ownership!

The permutations start to get nuts and things can change rapidly. Girona were 8 clear of relegation after MD30, now they’re 18th. Osasuna were 9 clear of relegation last month, now they’re only 3 clear and their last games are against Espanyol and Getafe. Any team from 11th to 19th can still go down.

It’s really crazy when you think of it. I just saw that he joined Valladolid for the 2025-26 season and they have secured staying up in Segunda, but not sure if that’s necessarily a success.

Espanyol arrest their slide down the table with a win at home vs Bilbao. Marko Dmitrovic was their man of the match haha

Does La Liga now have 5 CL spots?

Yep. Rayo going to the Conference league final made that possible.

Barca screwing with everyone by letting Alaves take all three. Four teams on 39 with two in the relegation zone. 4 points above that is a good spot to be. Assume at least two of those won’t get four more points. But not final yet.

So predictable that Barca gave that away. typical.

Oh well, we still need at least one more point in the last two.

I am relieved that my 18th place prediction is looking to be less likely. What is crazy about this year is we could still be relegated or we could get a conference league spot. Though the latter would require us to win both matches and Getafe to really dork up their remaining matches. Really tight point spread this year.

I sorta stole the joke from a Spanish Press article I read that referred to “white smoke" after a day long negotiation session.

Is this reported or just speculation? I had understood that the debt will remain…

Last two weeks have been a generational turnaround for the club, major!

I don’t think anything official has been announced, but the initial details have included the debt. That would be huge for the future, assuming we can get out of these contracts and start trimming back to turn a profit (or break even) again.

Valencia and Sevilla are both on 43, only difference is Valencia have the head-to-head. Europe looks like a miracle now, but on the other hand even if Sevilla lose both final games, it would need a really unlikely set of results to be overtaken by 6 clubs, especially since the final games include Levante-Mallorca and Girona-Elche. Bit of a disappointing season overall, but there were times when it looked like it was going to be worse. Replacing Almeyda turned out to be a gamble that’s paid off.

I’m so glad Sevilla turned it around. Those 3 wins in a row were massive for the football club. I didn’t see it coming but delighted they proved me wrong. The never say for attitude from Sevillismo rises again!
