Argh, another impolite match start time this week. I think this match is huge given what’s coming in the next few weeks. Getting back on the victory train is a MUST. This is not the Mestalla of old. This is Lim-p Mestalla
This game now has the feel of two former heavyweight boxers slugging it out. Except they’re both well into their 50s and way past their best. “Lim-p” sums it up well, and not only for Valencia. Both teams have been mediocre this season, Valencia have slightly improved in recent games, though were very lucky to get past Cartagena in Copa midweek (player sent off on 112 minutes, Cartagena had a penalty saved at 115, Valencia score the winner in 120th.) Valencia have always been better at home but I wouldn’t bet on any result in this fixture now. A win is obviously crucial for both teams and, with Girona losing, would put good distance ahead of the relegation places, which is the more immediate concern.
This is looking like 5-3-2 to me, which i would welcome cause we need to re-secure that defence. I’m not sure what to expect from this game other than we play slightly better away from home. Hopefully Azpi is enough to make things look somewhat respectable back there.
Good cross in and Peque attacked it well with a diving header that required a save. Some good passing from Sevilla early on. Playing three in the back with Oso and Carmona providing the width and getting forward.
Welcome back @JohnV! Great to have your prospective on the match and your Valencia as always.
Peque is really coming into his own in this system. He seems to to find spaces that others can’t. Now to improve on the final pass or shot.
Good coverage from Oso there. At first I thought he was going to get left behind, but he was able to keep pace with Theirry.
Adams gets in behind after a Valencia attack. Oso put him on, but couldn’t put the ball on target.
The run to the box was good, but that was some sunday league level controlling, positioning and shot in the box from Akor.
Making Rafa Mir look like prime Brazil Ronaldo ![]()
Adams again gets in behind and the shot was saved, but as usual, he’s offside.
Peque was def fouled during that action. He wouldn’t handle the ball if it weren’t that obvious. Dumb ass ref
I’m shocked this isnt going to VAR given that it’s La Liga.
Mendy’s positional awareness has plummeted lately. Last match it cost us a goal, often looked disoriented today, what the hell?
Did Y’all see the penalty they gave Barca yesterday in the :poop: game? Maybe the worst handball decision I have ever seen.
You watched a :poop: game? Pfffftt
That was terrible. Only Barca and RM can get those kind of pens it’s shameful
Shades of the Espanyol game, where the home team is just looking for ways to give us the ball back. We’re clearly on top, but don’t have the goals to show for it. Have we learned that lesson?
This ref is so bad. Always gets baited into bullshit fouls.
Perfectly described and it’s proving to be accurate from these 37 minutes so far.
