Folks… I don’t know if I’m just a total pollyanna here, but just finished listening to GarcĂa Pimienta’s press conference, and I’m just super pumped for this season in spite of the two results to date.
Again, y’all can point back at this post if the season goes off the rails, but I just have a great feeling both about the team Orta has compiled and even about GP as coach.
I’m worried about defence, but we have survived with a weakish defence before, and with Marcão looking healthy (
), I actually think a Badé pairing with Marcão has very few possible improvements, and has no favors to ask of any CB pairing in the non-galáctico Liga.
I’m not suggesting we will end Top 3, but even with the bad start, I think we’ve got a hell of a squad this year and I’m ready to VAMOOOOOOS. LET’S VAMOS!
Having said that…one note from the presser…GP responds to the final question about what parts of the field he thinks he could use more players by saying he would love a “player that scores tons of goals” and “additional support in midfield”.
The idea that he would ignore CB really irked me. I assume he must be seeing a different set of skills there than the rest of us… either Nianzou or Kike has really knocked his socks off…or he has inside info or something already nearly signed, or else he’s smoking something. Or maybe one other theory…that Orta has just told him that he’s got like 5-6 CBs, none of whom is likely to be sold and so he has what he has and shouldn’t even dream of anyone else coming in that role.
And speaking of CB, he was asked about Sergio Ramos rumors, and totally discarded the idea, saying “Sergio Ramos has already said goodbye to Sevilla FC”. I have always ignored that rumor, seems highly unlikely at this point.

No Montiel, Ocampos or Suso for the trip to Mallorca, could we see Ejuke and Lukebakio start on the wings? Maybe one of Juanlu or Peque could start in the space behind the striker and the other shift out to the wing? It’ll be interesting to see how the side lines up as a measure of intent to go for the win.

Let’s hope for the best. It is never an easy place to go. They held the mighty Real Madrid to a point. They have a good home record but let’s hope we can go there and make a positive impact. We have some talent in the squad and look good going forward. The defence worries me but I feel we can do okay this season if we sort that out. Vamos mi Sevilla!
Is there already pressure on Pimienta? Has anybody’s expectations changed? As we’re missing important players on this Balearic trip, is it an uphill battle for this winless Sevilla?
With Suso & Ocampos are out injured, and Isaac having missed training, Sevilla’s frontline will likely start either of the substitutes from Friday’s game in Ejuke & Iheanacho. Salas recovered from his knock last game and made it to the squad, but it’s still curious which CB pairing Pimienta will opt for this time. It’s looking to be the more important selection as the lack of defensive consistency is failing the team’s other departments.
Predicted XI: Nyland — Carmona, Bade, Gudelj, Pedrosa — Agoume, Sow, Saúl — Navas, Iheanacho, Lukebakio

I always treat the first few games like an extended pre-season, but i’m still hella salty after that Villarreal loss. To the hands of fxckin Ayoze at that?!?

Going to toss some $ on this match. Sevilla is +205 (Mallorca +140 / Draw +195). Don’t feel like this line is true, Mallorca might be getting a boost because of their performance vs Madrid.

Loving this lineup. A few too many changes… that’s the part that worries me. This group has quite literally never played together, so we shouldn’t underestimate that risk, but I am just adoring all the firepower all over the field. And actually grateful to see Gudelj over Kike at CB.
