Appreciate your contributions to the forum @JohnV thanks for venturing over here!
Congratulations on staying up. I watched the game and it was a deserved win. This is the bit where I get to say I told you so to @Mark_L (and I’m sure he won’t hate me for it!) I knew you’d be too good to go down. Now comes the trickier part of building a somewhat competitive squad in the summer.
I’ve been thinking about that for a few days… What’s next.
Seems to be more of the same. The Del Nido’s are screwing the club over with their infighting. Too much of a distraction and they both need to let it go for the good of the club.
We need a complete makeover from the top, including the board and management, all the way down to the majority of the players. We have been sinking for several years now and seem to have barely escaped relegation. The time for small measures is over.
@JohnV It been an absolute pleasure to have you on this forum and here your great views/insights on Sevilla, your club Valencia and la liga as a whole. We all look forward to hearing from you more.
I’m so glad you were right and I was wrong. I just had this bad feeling the way everything was going but I’m glad the team step up last night to prove me wrong.
Here’s hoping our clubs both sort themselves out and in future can one day return to their former glories!
Furthermore, thankyou for keeping our spirits up and talking sense haha!
Thanks for your posts, John.
Hopefully ourselves and Valencia can once again rise one day and show what big clubs we both are.
Villarreal doing the business! Another season in the top flight! Viva Sevilla!
That really takes the pressure off. The last two games will be interesting though. I don’t think Caparros will be in charge next season, but I hope he will give the academy-guys a lot of minutes and bench those who should definitely not be here next season. Give Suso and the fans (who else?) a chance to say goodbye and then end the worst season this club has had in a lot of years.
Officially - SAFE!
Pleased Villareal won to take off the pressure.
The season hasn’t been good at all but we are actually on the same number of points we finished with last year with two games to play, albeit the relegation fight wasn’t as tight.
We could really thank Villareal by gifting them a couple of goals in our last game, ensuring that they get a cl place and :poop: miss out.
@JohnV You may have been right but by the skin of our teeth. Espanyol beat las Palmas and jump us. Leganes win 3-0 and a point behind us. We 17th and seat of our pants escape.
We obviously play tomorrow but I think we lose.. We looking likely to escape relegation by 1 point. All this talk we too good to go down we were very lucky.
It is a warning because if we mess about again in summer or lose more key players we won’t be as lucky next season.
The draws with leganes, alaves and win against Las Palmas saved us as most of work done prior.
It crazy that despite beating las palmas when we feared all results going against us had leganes got a jammy draw at Villarreal we could have went down on 41 points. It would taken a crazy set of results but they all happened but leganes drawing at Villarreal.
La liga so competitive at bottom unlike premier league.
I feel a bit sorry for leganes. What a fight by them but left it too late.
It crazy how far clear we were of the drop after winning at soceidad but we really ended rough in last 10 matches or so
@Mark_L yes far too close for comfort. We likely to finish 17th just one point from the drop. A real warning that we must improve as we may not be as lucky next season.
Agree with you re La Liga being more competitive at the bottom. The three relegated teams are well adrift at the bottom of the Premier League with third from bottom Leicester having only 25 points. Crazy to think that Spurs and Man U would have been relegated as it stands in La Liga, one with 38 points and the other 39.
I agree mate. It shows that la liga is currently in a better place than the premier league for a competition and for good viewing.
There has been a lot competitive matches and it been less predictable than the English league.
We got away with it now hopefully this weeks up the club and our board that we need a big summer to sort this mess out. If we can sort it out we can hopefully be okay and stabilise in the league but we can’t endure another circus of a season like this. Fingers crossed we get our act together.
Vamos mi Sevilla!
I agree mate.
What are your thoughts on which is the better league out of the Premier League and La Liga?
It’s definitely a skin of the teeth thing and it may well turn out that your 93rd minute equaliser in your home game against us is the crucial point you needed to stay up (you also got a 93rd minute equaliser in Bilbao.) The whole thing should be a wake up call. Definitely a crossroads moment coming and a lot will depend on who’s the manager and summer comings and goings. On the manager front, it should be thanks and bye to Caparrós. I know he’s a club legend and should be thanked for stepping in at a difficult moment but the results weren’t appreciably better with him than GP.
Another weird thing. From a long term point of view it might be better to LOSE to Villarreal tonight. Why? Well, if you beat Villarreal then you finish 13th, actually a place better than last season which can give the powers in charge an excuse to do nothing. Lose and then the headline is the narrow escape and the need for urgent action to avoid a repeat.
Currently La liga is more competitive so better advert. Premier league has been better and has more money in it but both can be great depending on the season.
You would think this would spur them into action. However, do our board care or have they given up and just looting as much money as they can at this point? A sad state but if we want any chance next season we need urgent action in the summer.
I think it’s tough to say.
Generally I’d say La Liga is more competitive currently but that the quality of the Premier League is better overall and there’s more money obviously.
You only have to look at how Arsenal easily beat Real Madrid and the manner in which Man U, 16th in the Premier League beat 4th in La Liga Athletic.
I don’t think it’s always been the case but currently I’d say PL is better. All leagues have their peaks and troughs though. I love Spanish football however and prefer watching it.
