La Liga 2023-24 Season Thread

It’s not hate, they’re just bloody annoying. Half the north think the Andaluces are gypsies and junkies but when they come down here you see they have no manners and they’re obnoxious.
And this thing with the boat, why can’t they have a celebration next day like all the other clubs do.

That’s a fair viewpoint, on the other hand they’ve now won it 24 times.

Seems about right.

Made me anxious for another @sterusebn graph

We’ve definitely gotten better results with Quique at the helm, and the team seems to pass the eye test more so than in years past, but we’re still noticeably behind where we were last year.

Something isn’t working, and I’m not sure anyone at the club knows how to fix it.

Cadiz drawing 1-1 at home to Mallorca. This leaves us 11 points ahead of Cadiz with the game tonight to come. A win would take us 14 clear of them with 15 to play. If we weren’t already, we’re all but safe.

Granada winning 3-0 at home to Osasuna means a win tonight would move us up to as high as 11th in the table and to the golden 40 points.

We’d also go within 8 points of :poop: with five matches to play!

Finally took the time to get all of my Europa League scarves up in my office downtown.

1&7 are on the wall, and 2-6 are splayed out on the desk

Listening to Cope Radio and channel 4 on the TV they’re saying Sevilla FC have a bleak outlook for 2024-25. They’re talking about the payroll dropping from €170m to €85m. They don’t explaing how they’re going to rescind the contracts or sell the ‘below expectation’ players.

Rafa Mir and Jordan have 3 years left on their contract. Januzaj wants to stay without playing, Augustinsson wants to return, Acuña and Nesyri want to go.

Marcáo, Gattoni and Nianzou are not going to bring in much money and their future is tied up on whether Sergio Ramos wants to continue. They’re also on the lookout for a Dmitrovic replacement.

And the big question is , do Sevilla pay the €15m for Soumaré or the €8m for Agoumé because there’s no way they can both be justified.

The press are dumping all the blame on Castro, Den Nido jnr and Monchi.

I read somewhere today that Nianzou has a clause in his contract that states if he is still part of the squad next season his salary jumps to 3m net :rage:

I feel Monchi has to be blamed for most of the financial shit storm to come.

I bought this on EBay. I don’t know whether is real? or just a really good knock off? You tell me.

Random note here, but wanted to report that I was talking to someone recently about Sevilla’s season and they mentioned having three coaches. And I LITERALLY could not remember who the third coach was. Mendilibar, good memories, bad ending. And QSF. But who the hell was the third coach this season? Are you sure there were three? Didn’t QSF replace Mendi? :joy:

Diego Drawlonso, may you have better luck next team. As for Sevilla FC, you will be vaguely remembered alongside Montella and Berizzo and Manzano and Antonio Alvarez. Our last dark era which didn’t end in relegation (or even any major upheaval).

Raising a glass :beers: to hoping the present dark era ends similarly to the last one!*

*Ehem, one word…Emery.

He won us that 2010 Copa del Rey. Then he had a Mendi-like start to the following season and it was a wrap.

I could honestly see him having a long tenure at Villa. It’s his EPL redemption. Playing in the UECL semi, and also 1 game away from securing UCL for next season. In that event, maybe Monchi will be there a while. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Maybe he’s not for the ‘elite clubs’, but with Monchi by his side, a nice lil project can shape up at Villa.

Unai has that unlimited will and work ethic to make a team play towards his visions. No weak mentality. Brave and with passion, every second of his stay.

I’m not following what Mendi is doing exactly. But how you get a squad full of portuguese and european league loan players to compete as fiercely in Europe while getting the results is impressive.

He’s been good lately, but I can’t imagine how that makes up for the first 6 months.

Has been good in recent games, but NO WAY the best CB in the top 5 leagues. Not even in his best game.

Clearly the money he pays for his press people is well spent.
