I’m sure most will agree that Rony Lopes still holds that title since he only played a total of 14 matches; however, Nianzou could get a shout because of the sheer importance of his transfer. After losing Kounde, it was expected that Nianzou would become the new Kounde. That of course hasn’t happened after his 16 million euro fee to Bayern Munich.
Could very well be, but there’s a lot of fierce competition for that title.
Whilst I don’t disagree and we could have a long thread of bad transfers just from the past 4 seasons, I’d like to add Martial to a list of worst transfers in recent times.
Good shout.
Mariano, who is looking to be a standout signing for mighty Alaves.
“Worst transfer ever” like “Best XYZ FC XI of all time” is a bit pointless since most fans won’t remember anything older than the last 15-20 years and I’m sure that like every club you signed some duds in the 1990s and earlier. Recent times? Off the top of my head, you paid a lot for Muriel and I thought he’d be good for you, but wasn’t. I remember you signed Kone and he was invisible (did he ever play?) Seemed to be injured forever. Most disappointing has to be Immobile, who has been red hot everywhere except Sevilla.
Haha fair enough. We’ve had a a lot of stinkers for sure. Kone was so damn frustrating. Twelve million at that time was a lot of money to fork over for a player to only score 2 goals. Then he goes to Levante and Wigan and has a decent career.
A lot of strikers have flopped as much as we have had some absolute gems.
Iago Aspas didn’t work out but has been prolific for Celta.
Hard to think of any other club outside the big three that has consistently had such good strikers as Sevilla has had in recent times (though last few seasons have broken that pattern.) Kanoute, Fabiano, Negredo, Bacca, Gameiro, Ben Yedder etc. Then there is the weird thing of strikers who are good nearly everywhere else like Aspas, Immobile and Muriel being flops. In the 2 seasons after leaving Sevilla Immobile scored 52 league goals in Serie A. Muriel also hit 40 the next 2 seasons in Serie A. Andre Silva was another case, I remember he had a crazily good start at Sevilla and then disappeared and then as soon as he left, he scored 40 across 2 seasons in the Bundesliga. Must be something in the air in Seville.
I miss that team with Bacca up front so much ![]()
Could be just a time of year that this question tends to come up, or maybe @ChrisLail was sourcing insight for this article by MARCA:
I didn’t really know the Bebeto story, interesting that he was hired to replace Sukor and interesting that we went down that season.
Also, Joris Gnagnon and Januzaj both seem like way higher contenders than the subject line Nianzou. Plus, we’re still holding out some home for Nianzou. Right, @Edinho ?
Absolutely. ![]()
It might be one of those cases where he does well somewhere else. But i think it’s over with him & Sevilla. Even if he recovers from injury and does well, it would be best for both parties to cut ties.
Probably every transfer made by Oscar Arias and Victor Orta.
Nianzou for supposedly being Kounde’s heir when his claim to fame was being the best wonderkid in Football Manager and probably Lewy’s plaything in training.
Marcao for supposedly replacing Diego Carlos but takes half a year off for every match played.
Martial I could almost give a pass since he was a loan signing and this was a last chance at top tier football for him, shame he wasn’t up to it.
Januzaj & Mariano: just why.
Nianzou is such a weird signing. Been here under about twenty managers now and never ever stakes a claim even when we have no Centre Backs.
Can we have big Joris Gnagnon back now please?
He played two games this season before someone sneezed on his hamstring and popped it again.
My vote on this is Lionel Carole. Also, hey Chris, it’s been a min ![]()
That was a weird season.
Haha that’s a good pull. Although a loan that cost us 350k, at least it wasn’t a permanent transfer.
Good to hear from you! I hope you and your beautiful family are doing well in cow country. ![]()
Rony Lopes no doubt. 25M net loss plus his salary.
Mir, Amadou, Nianzou, Suso (not worth the 21M net investment for what he offered in 6 season) compete for 2nd.
Not having this. ![]()
