I’m like 100% sure that’s what happened there. Zenit is Putin’s team as well.
I hope we draw Spartak Moscow tomorrow as we might get a bye due to a potential UEFA sanction on Russian clubs.
Otherwise, it’s too risky for us in the next round.
Yes there are some strong teams left. Porto, Atalanta and Leipzig to name a few. Then you’ve still got Barca and :poop:!
It will be tough to win the competition this season, especially the way we’re playing currently and with the league to think about. However I hope the prize of playing a home final and our remarkable record in this competition inspires us to go all the way. We know we’re capable.
Only on paper. It’s not showing in the field though, and we all know why.
Yes I’d accept that and you blame Lope right?
Of course. No one else is in charge of tactics, systems, approach and the overall philosophy of the game.
The players have to take some responsibility but yes, ultimately, the buck lies with Lope. He does generally get the results (not as much recently) but I would agree the performances aren’t great. Our football is boring.
I’m intrigued how Sampaoli or Emery would have done with this squad or another manager for that matter.
Draw is tomorrow:
Seeded teams
Crvena zvezda (SRB)
Eintracht Frankfurt (GER)
Galatasaray (TUR)
Leverkusen (GER)
Lyon (FRA)
Monaco (FRA)
Spartak Moskva (RUS)
West Ham (ENG)
Unseeded teams
Atalanta (ITA)
Barcelona (ESP)
:poop: (ESP)
Braga (POR)
Leipzig (GER)
Porto (POR)
Rangers (SCO)
Sevilla (ESP)
Is the Europa League last 16 over two legs?
Ties take place over two legs, with seeded teams (the UEFA Europa League group winners) at home in the second legs.
The first legs are scheduled for 10 March, with the second legs a week later.
I have watched all the VAR replays and I still don’t see a foul.
West ham it is. Very excited for that tie.
We have West Ham. What do you think? They are not in the top form, i guess we should have a chance at least…
I am excited and curious. As I am from Czechia, it is always interesting to see Czechs to play against Sevilla (Souček, Coufal). I hope Sevilla will play better than yesterday.
Could have been worse. At least we avoided Moskow
Moscow would’ve most likely been a bye so that was the best option to be honest, given the circumstances (not related to football).
West Ham is not going to be easy and I don’t see us as favorites in this but hopefully we can go through… somehow.
Takes me back to our tussle against Leicester in the Champions League a few seasons back.
Similar opponents in West Ham. Let’s hope we can win this time!
Yeah it will be a good test to see if we learned anything, to play against a higher pace teams or general PL intensity. Their defence isn’t so impressive tho. Potentially some good games.
Inexcusable by the way to have a draw including Spartak Moscow without consequences so far, in modern times, where everything is offensive after just breaking all policies of humanity.
I think they will get disqualified due to sanctions (hopefully) and a team was going to get a bye anyway, so it is RB Leipzig this time.
Definitely hope so.
Gazprom is main sponsor from the CL as well right?
Well atleast they relocated the finale from Sint Petersburg to Paris. That’s one.
Also I just started imagining, Derbi Sevillano as the Europa League Final, in the RSP
that would be historic.
I see West Ham as a tricky tie, they’ve got some good players. However on paper, I do think we’re stronger and we could have been drawn against better teams. It could have been worse.
Looking on some of their forums, they’re convinced they’re in for a hiding and see us as a tough draw (six times winners and all that!)
Performance levels from us do have to be better though than what we’ve seen recently!
I’m confident we can prevail as we usually seem to do in this competition.
