Surprised Lucas made the pass there. As we seen in the recent play, failed to play in a wide open Oliver out wide.
Thought Ocampos had delayed too long to cause Mir to run offside…
He actually did pass a bit late. Defender on the far side didn’t hold the line.
Oliver with some great movements. Setting up the next attack.
Of course Rafa took that shot.
Another terrible counter attack.
We really do not know how to counter.
2-0 to Sevilla. A Lopetegui blowout.
relatively clean, with an abnormal amount of goals. Zaragoza almost scoring at the end, but we still kept the sheet clean.
honestly great to pass the round, without any extra work and many fitness issues. That´s the objective in the first place so, onto next one.
Comfortable win in the end, but not until we got the second goal. I thought we were on the racks a little at the start of the second half. They probably should have scored with the chances they created.
The moment we got the second, a well taken Mir goal, it killed the game. From then on, we had the chances that could have seen us win by even more goals.
A good win on the whole in what could have been a potential banana skin. A lot better than the previous round. Job done and professionally and we’ve even scored two goals! Onto the next round!
Oliver was very good. Acuña looked a bit ropey. A good win.
Fantastic win! Great defending and we controlled the ball great again. We showed more going forward tonight especially with a great counter attacking goal. Great goals from Kounde and Mir. Nice to see us add a counter attacking move to our makeup and ocampos was in great form again.
Can this season get any better? It could but currently we on cloud 9. The results keep coming despite all the issues with injuries, covid and African cup nations we face. On to getafe now! Vamos mi Sevilla! The historic treble is on!
I think Zaragoza’s level made us look like prime Barca at times, especially some players like Oliver Torres who looked like a combination of Ronaldinho and Xavi.
Positive notes: Mir scoring - he was bullied a lot by the opponent defenders before scoring, but that goal will instill confidence in him now that we need him most as YEN is not here for at least a month.
Papu was IMMENSE. He was all over the pitch, contributed to most of the actions and stopped some crucial shots in our box and outside. He is not a winger like Ocampos and our left wing is not the same as the right one, but Papu definitely should start for us, even if we get another winger - Lope should somehow make space for him in the formation.
Negatives: The canteras (Ivan Romero and Quintana Nacho) looked quite weak and inexperienced, so much that they were slipping and sliding all the time, proving that they’re not even experienced enough to play in such pitch conditions. Anyway, this hopefully serves as a lesson for them but they still have a long way to go to even think of getting minutes in normal circumstances (without injuries, suspensions etc.)
It would’ve been better to see more canteras in this match (as Brian also mentioned before), but I think Lope is now terrified of playing a B team mixed with canteras - last time that happened we were humiliated by Chelsea in the CL group stage so he probably thinks a lot before doing something similar now. You can’t help it anyway, it’s always a risk to do that, even against the likes of Zaragoza.
This also shows that we are taking CDR more seriously than thought and that’s probably because of the early CL exit. We will focus on 3 fronts now, CDR being the least of interest but still not as less interest as not giving a damn about it and fielding a weak team.
If we create some counter-attacking schemes and switch into autopilot mode doing that (like Atletico did in 2013-14), we can cruise through most of the matches in the league and seriously engage only against the tough opponents or when it matters a lot.
Because the lack of those schemes, we need to constantly play the same strategy and deploy the same tactics in every match. It may still work with a bit of luck but why make it harder on ourselves?
That will do for me! Lope masterclass again
Yes, MOTM for me – helped us control the tempo. It looks like one of those cases where the added game time as helped his continuity and settling into the starting XI.
Very pleased with us getting the 2nd goal tonight; made proceedings much easier for us w/ our schedule and injury list. Finally showed on the pitch the difference in quality seen on paper. And how rewarding is that 2nd goal? We can bring on subs like Quintana, and not a Gudelj-type defensive sub to suffer thru & secure a 1-0 result. More of this please. Onto the Round of 16!
After these last matches, I simply cannot conceptualize our game without Papu. The only thing we need to take care of at this point is the sacrificing of the left wing, but if we play the same, so be it. We won’t face super duper top teams in CL and the only top team for this season that we’ll face in La Liga is RM for the second leg later on, so we should be fine.
All of this.
I feel we should have been at this stage already, but different circumstances have halted that progression. I think the injuries has helped Lope settle on a consistent XI that has found chemistry over the last month.
Let me try and conceptualize it, so basically you are looking at a donkey’s ass, and most of the time there is this brown semi solid crud coming out of it, but once in a while, there comes this shiny gem or golden coin out, that miraculously or accidentally got mixed in between the donkeys food. Which either resembles, Ocampos doing something special or the Rakitic screamer we saw before for example.
