It’s interesting to me, that when we had the option before with almost all our centre backs available, he didn’t go for it. But out of sheer necessity when he has nothing left he goes for it.
Here lies Sevillas European adventures, alas poor Navas & Rakitic ye shall see no more…
As @RyanMoore says we should memorialise this thread as we shan’t see another one any time soon I fear.
Isn’t there a saying about making your own luck? I feel like the team are in the doldrums right now and can’t buy a bit of luck (except Villarreal game).
That penalty was wild, you could see the guy catch his own feet, lose his balance then kick Soumare. Anyway…
Only domestic affairs to concentrate on now, something has to give otherwise it’ll be a long slog down to Segunda I fear.
Huge injury crisis and a few game left before the break, I hope that those who are fit to play can find some form or get a break or two on the chances they do create, because the team will need luck on their side to avoid the drop.
i think this will be the lineup for the foreseeable future… minus sergio ramos starting. i think gudelj will take that spot
very happy with the defense. bade looks solid, pedrosa has been very impressive, juanlu has been eh but hes had good moments and gudelj and sergio ramos will help keep the young core wise. i guess we could use some backup fullbacks
the midfield is what needs the most work. we’re missing chance creation. I like lamela and ocampos, but we need someone who can help rakitic in the buildup and propel his plans into action. sow and soumare have both been stellar
my word do we need a striker who can actually do more than sit up front. not that i am unhappy with yen, he is an incredible finisher, but he doesnt track back or even help nearly enough than we need. we need someone to help with our buildup and to be more of a passing option
Just realized something interesting, another point of nostalgia. That Sevilla just finished playing the very last ever Champions League group phase. Future UCLs will no longer use a group phase. So, while it’s sad to not be getting a ticket to Europe for likely 2-3 (maybe more) years, it also makes me a bit happier to think that what we just participated in was the end of an era for UCL, too.
