Dreading that already…
Sorry to say it but it’s time to say thanks and goodbye to Navas & Rakitic. Both of them are clearly past it to play at this level
Can’t say I was impressed by Sow tonight either. As for Yen if West Ham come with an offer for him I would bite their hand off.
If only we could sign young players like Savinho, who looks like he could turn out to be something very special,
Rakitic (tied with Gudelj) as our best player today with a 7.2 rating. Navas was fourth just behind Suso (6.8 and 6.9) respectfully. While I agree with you that we have to get younger, they weren’t our major problem today. Sure Rakitic screwed up, but he also tied the game beyond a weird offside.

1 win out of the last 8 La Liga games.
Also we can cut for 50m in salaries alone if we clean house.
Jordan
Ocampos
En Nesyri
Suso
Papu
Acuña
Marcao if he doesn’t get better and at least plays 20 games this year.
Fernando
Rakitic
With all respect as well.
Tecatito deserves a chance and his contract seems to be on the lower side so he can stay imo.
Oliver has been stagnating but could be a fill player.
I would take Lamela as the only veteran core player we should keep.
Just give confidence to Nianzou and Badé and let them play 30 games together.
Getting Sow a good companion and preferably Spanish or well spoken to become the new leader.
INVEST THE only big salary you can afford in a top class striker who will find the winning goals and is not limited by his feet.
And look for a talented long term first goalkeeper (26-28 years old). I said we could currently use the Bono money elsewhere more desperately but if we are serious for next year and the long term future we will need to invest in a good GK without doubt.
It needs to happen, everything shows they are unable to do it in one window. So if need be, throw away this year, sell in January again and try harder and be more ruthless next summer and we could finally try to fully revive and clean the rot.
I know it’s desperate and preemptive to start talking but this management has been struggling to cut ties and do decisive business too much for too long and it seems they need way more time than they have. So from my part take the whole year to do it. Orta gets time to finish the window but it just hasn’t looked promising or decisive at all so far everything and all deals collapsing.
My Minimum 2025 Goals.
Long term GK
Sow Partner
Top Striker
Spanish fill players with < 1-1.5m max. salaries.
Start looking now already for a ambitious younger manager proven to improve teamplay instead of pure results.
Get rid of the above named players against any price you get, clean salary house and go back to more spanish base talent to help, around a strong core with 6 players that stay long term and want to build a winning machine and grow together.
Damn, here we go again…
We still don’t know how to score. If we were more threatening with the ball, it would take a load off the defence. Now teams think we’re sweet, and anybody can beat us. Girona is a decent team, but this is the RSP. So now the Osasuna’s & Rayo’s are gonna pick us off too?! This needs to stop.
Our attack sucks pt2. It’s fine if crossing the ball is part of your strategy (see Zidane at Madrid), but we aren’t consistent with putting the ball in dangerous areas. And YEN can’t play with his back to goal, which is why a new striker is necessary. This ‘Rafa to Valencia’ deal has dragged too long that it has halted any progress in the attacking department.
Already at a minus with Oliver, and YEN who’s only gonna receive the ball if it’s from a cross, so now you’re playing Ocampos at a position he’s not comfortable in. And crossing is not his forte, especially on the left. It’s a good start adding Lukebakio (another stubborn move by Mendi ), but more changes are needed if anything is gonna look different up there.
It will indeed. It’s tough to accept that in the moment, cause it’s never supposed to get this bad. We’re overloaded with questions marks, now Mendi has to go and make himself one? I don’t expect anything from the Atletico game, but I know the players will fight hard. We need that Int’l break more than anything, to get the new players to gel (hopefully more of them), and to have a settled squad. Way too much football to play to write the season off, but we’re making it harder for ourselves. Barça & Madrid are in the next block of games, so will we look like Champions League quality by then?
Since the start of I don’t even remember maybe 2018 the defensive core has been carrying and the attacking core has been extremely poor, to the point where any new attacking player that comes in is expecting to change it. But it doesn’t work like that, you need your core players to carry the team so the new player can integrate in a positive manner. Putting everything pressure and expectations directly on Papu, Martial or Lukebakio doesn’t work. The true part that is broken, is the existing attacking core that they do not get rid off and then the new attacking players get drained and sucked into the black hole as well.
I don’t believe in these offensive players together and never will. A one off successful game won’t change anything, will only make them think they are good and fall back to hopelessness.
Only Lamela has my trust.
There is mold and we refuse to see it.
We need heavier cleaning, please Orta get the broom and the bleach and start with a clean offensive floor.
I’ve just watched the game on replay. I thought that was the best we played in the league so far this season.
No not by any means perfect but for me we at least merited a draw against a talented Girona side who will do well again I think. VAR wasn’t on our favour twice and on another day it would have been. Penalty decision and offside were wrong in my view.
Three defeats to start the season is worrying and you look at every game and we could have got something. A difficult match away at Atletico to come. Still though, not the time to panic and patience required and hopefully the points on the board soon. I still don’t think this is last season levels for badness even if we have no points.
They may not be a ‘big’ name but Girona a very talented team imo who will do well. Got some cracking players. They’ve shown themselves to be better than ourselves recently. So I don’t agree.
And Mendi out after three games. Such short memories! The problems at this club are far deeper than the manager!
God this seems like deja vu.
Have not watched any of the matches due to them being scheduled late but the performance has probably been trash, this is already a pretty decent opening and still Sevilla find themselves dead last and with most goals conceded. Truly ground zero here.
It’s probably a culmination of an entire shedload of problems dating back to Covid where everyone’s earnings took a hit but this off-season was supposed to rectify some of the problems with some money and morale from another Europa triumph, instead there’s this and the CL hasn’t even started.
Mendi has drawn ire for his selection, man management and tactics, he’s not blameless but I do wonder if the board have played a part by hiring another average manager who struck gold for the first time, at least this time it’s a one year contract. And as others have said in the transfer thread, we can give him until late September to decide if he’s going to continue on in the dugout.
Pray something does happen in the next 4 days or the next 4 months would make last season look rosy.
