Oh man, the best tournament in the world starts today. First, I’m sorry the US has fucked it all up for everyone. Hopefully, the football makes everything better. What are your thoughts? Any predictions on who wins it all?

Looking forward to watching some great football. We will be heading down to Barcelona at the end of June and will spend all of July there. If anyone is around there give us a nudge. We will find a place or two to watch the matches…especially the Spain matches. I would love to see the US team do well, but we are hoping for Spain to hoist the trophy.

I drew England in my work’s sweepstakes, but I’m hoping for Argentina or Spain to win (anyone but England!)

I have Galvan, Lira & Mora in my current EA FC career team, so cheering them on just now.

It’s a fantastic stadium.I remember seeing it on tv during the previous times mexico hosted the world cup.

A few years ago I was in Mexico city and took a bus out to it, It was not a match day but I was hoping to get inside and have a look around but no amount of pleading with the security guys worked..I had to make do with a walk around the exterior.and a chat with a stall holder selling club America merchandise.

Scotland currently sat atop their group, which also features Brazil and Morocco :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: I’m sure that’s how it’ll finish too

Today I learned that Gaël Kakuta is still playing professional football.

Why do they need hydration breaks in an air conditioned stadium?

The USA is determined to make it a game of 4 quarters to get in all the commercials

Supposedly to make all the games follow the same format. There are some stadiums which are “indoors” but quite a few are open to the elements. Though I agree with you it is more for the commercial purpose of selling advertising during the break.

We were talking about this at our house. I am not against the idea of a hydration break, but the current structure is too much like a break between quarters. I think it should be adjusted…3 minutes is too long. It should be reduced to 1 min or 90 seconds max. Additionally, in order to stay with the intended purpose of hydration, the break should take place on the opposite side of the field from the team’s dugout. This is not supposed to be a coaching moment to make adjustments. There should be no interaction with any staff…just the players grabbing water for a min.

Great proposals, @jdecourcey. I’m ok with the concept of making it a consistent pattern so all matches are played in the same format regardless of stadium.

I’m curious to see a post mortem of how the added breaks change strategy. It honestly may make for a more strategic game, more cerebral game, less momentum dominated game. And if that’s the case, isn’t that a more enjoyable game yo watch?

No real prior on what the final data will say, but there’s no RIGHT way to do football, so why not experiment with this format? Hell, I’m even tempted to let them do a full coaching break, why not? Half time isn’t some biological necessity and players couldn’t possibly play for 90 minutes or face certain death. Right? So why not play around with the format and see what happens?

Anybody feeling a bit more sympathy towards Qatar this year since they’re coached by Lopetegui?

That group is one of the weakest, and therein most boring groups in the tourney, so I find myself hoping Qatar squeezes through as a third placed team, which they’re guaranteed to do if they can beat Bosnia. More unlikely if they draw with Bosnia and lose to Canada.

Anyhow, like I said. Pretty weak group, so might as well make it interesting by rooting for Lopetegui, right?

Let’s go VARGAS! Immediately impacted the game once he came on and scored a nice goal.

Also set one up to help the Swiss to a commanding win in the end!

Lopetegui wasn’t very happy with Marsch at the end of the CA, Qatar match.
