An epic game! Overall I’m pleased with our first half. We playing well. However, inter punished our sloppy defending from Carlos. Half time chat for him with lopetegui needed. I hope he sorts it out.
Bar that we doing decent. Inter are dangerous on counter but we have controlled the match more in my view. I just hope we can make it count in 2nd half!
Diego Carlos… what can I say? He was the culprit for both goals (stupid penalty and stupid foul outside the box - they converted both). He has marked Lukaku well at times, but he is adding unnecessary pressure to himself after picking up yellows early on in the match. That is not something that a clever CB does. A good thing though is that no top club will want him now after the recent performances, especially vs. Man Utd and today, simply still not clever enough to make it big in a top club, PLUS… without the pressure of the fans!
Luuk De Jong has definitely proven that he is a clinical finisher, just needs better team play around him and better chances. His 3 goals, unlike Diego Carlos with the 3 penalties, make him a name to remember for the club. I just hope that this won’t jinx it and that he never returns to the De Jong that couldn’t score to save his life (the De Jong of the first half of the season - mostly).
We have controlled most of the match and have played much better in overall (58% of the possession as well), but both teams were dangerous at given times. I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose this one tonight, however, we surely wouldn’t deserve to lose as this pathetic Inter does not deserve the mighty EL title, that belongs to the almighty Sevilla!
Luuk with his head or feet are two different worlds, but a striker solely usefull in the air you need to play around very well. at times we do and the deliveries need to be done well.
Also Inter should have had a lot of cards in the first half… the ref was very chill about the constant fouls they were making to kill the game of. Reminds me of Chile vs. Argentina in one of the Copa America finals, not sure if the first or second final of them… the first I think. Chile were beating down the Argentina players all the match and got very few yellows after 4-5 fouls per player. In that way, everyone can just kill the game off and play when they are in the mood to. That’s what the cards are for, to prevent killing off the game and taking advantage unfairly through countless stops (a.k.a. the Chile way).
Also 2, I won’t argue much about the penalty but he was technically fouled outside of the box and the final fall was inside the box, so the ref should’ve given a free kick instead. Diego Carlos’ main training instructions should be notes from the book - HOW TO NOT GIVE OUT A PENALTY EARLY IN THE FIRST HALF for Dummies.
