That’s the first penalty shootout loss in 15 years I think
Piss poor management from Mendi… shameful really.
We still haven’t seen anything from Sow because Mendi has not been able to utilize him so far.
I’m stunned. Typical. We usually excel at them and they not as good. They turned into prime penalty takers tonight. Fair play to them but we can be proud of ourselves.
There’s a lot to be proud of in that performance
Honestly it’s crazy losing to Man City who aren’t good at them doesn’t make sense. However, they seemed really determine so credit to them. We played really well tonight though and players can be proud.
What a pity … but we were there and if anything happened in penalties it was that Bono didn’t save any. It’s one way to say goodbye but he’ll always be a hero because we all know he was one of our greatest goalkeepers.
What a shame for Gudelj after being one of the best players on the pitch tonight! The boys did well against City, I was honestly expecting this to be a bit of a blow out. Great penalties, shame it had to end that way.
Cabezas arriba equipo!
So proud of that effort tonight! Just a great performance. I thought we had it when we went to penalties. Drawing second hurts though.
Yes we did. En-nesyri should’ve had 4 goals
Lots to be positive about. We played with great pace, energy, showed great quality and defended brilliant. Let’s hope we can take that into alaves away. Vamos!
And how many should’ve City had?
Great performance against the best team in Europe but fuck that ruined my week
Maybe two
As Ivan said after the match. We would have loved that trophy far more than them. The players barely celebrated it.
Their “fans” were a library.
Yeah true. Could you imagine the sevilla fans reactions of Sevilla had won? They would have went bananas in the ground. It just felt like another day at office for city fans.
Well we had to lose a penalty shoot out one day didn’t we. The main thing was we made it hard for them, I thought Mendi played the right tactics in defending in numbers and trying to hit them on the break. a bit more luck and Yen could have had 2 or 3 goals but it was not to be.
Bade had Haaland in his pocket all the game not giving him a sniff of a goal, Ocampos & Acuna played their hearts out and we drew 1-1 against the best team in the world.
No complaints from me, I feared pre game we would be humiliated tonight and that I would be switching chans by half time.
Didn’t make it to watch the game. Just reading up and watching what I can. The expected result in the end but reading all of this makes me glad that we showed up and were in it until the last shot. Hurts a bit more when you get so close in the end but still proud of the result and good to read about some superb performances from some of the guys. That brings back some more hope for what’s coming. Bono got real close to that right bottom corner penalty as well but it slipped underneath and no harm on Gudelj either a bit loose but close enough. GG. Mendilibar putting it on Suso for not wanting to take the fifth one…
Time and again, this team reminds us to believe. The fxck are we doing in a SEVENTH Uefa Supercup final anyway?? This squad knows how to fight!
Jordan was putting himself out there like we still had Kounde & DC in defence. He kept it simple and did his job well. Bade & Gudelj fought hard, and reassured me a bit for the start of the season. Lamela & Ocampos are such great players to have in the press. We could be so great on the counter, but we need precision. YEN could take his game to another level if he got his close control in order. Spurned a few chances even before he took the shot, and some of those went straight at the keeper. But he’s a constant threat, and will always be a plus on this team. What a ball by Acuña tho! I’m just pissed he didn’t get under anyone’s skin.
And what more needs to be said about Bono. Made superb saves yet again. I enjoyed every minute of us suffering with him back there, yelling at our players for not jumping in the wall, or for letting Grealish get space to shoot. It just didn’t go his way in the shootout. But he has nothing to be ashamed of. One of the best in Sevilla’s history, and still in the world.
Honestly, it was nice of us to allow City to get their 1st Supercup win. We got nothing else to prove. The saga continues… onto the Mendizorrrrrrrotza!
