We put a great fight 2nd half. With de jong goal we give ourselves a squeak of chance. We very much up against it still be you never know I guess.
At least we played better in 2nd and lopetegui changes definitely worked well. On to Osasuna away!

I have a meeting at 5PM here so we have to do it tomorrow ![]()
Perfect for me.
Lots to learn from this result. A bad one, but we’re not completely out of it. The 2nd leg will be tasty though.
For the most part of the match, that’s the Sevilla we know at the start of the season: inability to break through (shitty) defense, useless possession, slow pace.
There’s a common theme in this match and also Barca vs PSG, slow ass team beaten by the fast and athletic new king (haaland, mbappe).
In general, slow La liga opponents create false hope for us that slow possession football is useful to beat Champions league opponents.
How come was that NOT a penalty, or even worse, NOT even worth checking VAR? Disgraceful!
The only thing more disgraceful was our first half performance. That was all on Lope to be honest, shouldn’t have started with Rakitic (Oliver instead) and Navas (Vidal instead). Navas in the second half while Rakitic not at all. Why? Because Rakitic is simply not designed to play against these type of opponents, he was part of Barca’s humiliations from Roma and Liverpool, which both played direct and pacey attacking football against Barca at the time, while Rakitic crumbled - enough said.
Oscar and Oliver changed our game dynamics and tempo for the good, and LDJ only shows up in important games like Chris said - but of course, we’d all be mad if he would be fielded from the beginning. However, I’d give him a chance to be the hero in the second leg.
The worst thing is that the 2-3 result is a terrible one having played the first leg at home. We need 2 goals advantage in the second leg, and while it’s not impossible, I find it quite hard to believe that we won’t concede in the return match, especially knowing Lope’s conservative tactics of the first half.
So, unless a miracle happens (which you never know, as we’re Sevilla!) - we can more or less kiss CL goodbye. Passing through wouldn’t mean anything else other than risking a more spectacular humiliation against the likes of PSG, Bayern, Man City etc. So we should be fine with this and concentrate on La Liga and CDR! We still have unfinished business with Barca and they will seek revenge for that first leg loss.
We don’t have the pace and capacity to do anything important in CL unfortunately. So anything that we achieve would be a bonus, though this tonight was a pure example of being beaten badly (3 goals at home is always bad) by an opponent that you dominate and wasn’t better than you on field nor on paper.
On to Osasuna for the 3 points!
Shendm, the worst thing is, they did a penalty check. Like how???
disgusting, and normally i´m really not that frustrated about the VAR. but this one got to me.
It’s a mix between lack of proper mentality and tactics for the big/important games. The only one we did well was the Barca one in CDR winning 2-0, but I wouldn’t call that a big game considering how messed up Barca are lately. We also drew with them 0-0 in the first match in La Liga, but we’ve lost all the other matches against top teams like: vs. Bayern, RM, Atletico, Dortmund and Chelsea (1 draw as well in the CL group stage).
Missed that sequence where it showed the review, that’s even worse.
Yep, 0-0 with Chelsea mixed it
If not before this match, after this match we should have the definite eagerness and fighting spirit to play with from start to finish in the return game.
They might have underestimated BVB, and with their 5 man midfield where looking very solid the first half, hope we get ready to turn this around, I really think we can. Towards the end, they fought together, complained together and worked together better to get something going. I wanna see that from point zero.
Sort of glad that I missed this one. Disappointing to see our great run of form end to a shambolic Dortmund that were struggling for form. Either way, there’s a second leg, and at least we got a late goal on, so a comeback is possible.
And maybe I’m lucky? I watched the first ten minutes or so, and as soon as I stopped watching, they scored.
Question is do we start like we finished in Dortmund?
Last year in the Europa league we let them score, or at least gave them a penalty, then we came from behind and won. Maybe we should let them score first in the second leg?
Just thinking about Oscar there. He had just came on after being out for weeks and delivers that great free kick. Unlucky it didn’t go in.
Fielded in the 72nd minute, one assist and almost scored a free kick, not bad at all coming back from the injury as you pointed.
By that rate, you better not watch the second leg at all
Or maybe I just watch the full game?
