UCL MD3: Sevilla FC vs Dortmund [22-23]

It’s honestly a shame he had to go out this way.

He did a lot of good for the club, brought us some real highs. Wish he could have ended it on a positive note, but I suppose the time has finally passed. Hope he has a good rest of his career.

At least we showed some fighting spirit in that second half rather than roll over.

Fair play to Lope applauding the fans at the end and the crowd equally receptive to him.

He deserves credit and respect for guiding us to three successive top 4 finishes but the wheels have well and truly come off this season and it’s time for a change.

End of an era and best of luck to him.

Let’s be clear, the club has destroyed this season but we were in a downward spiral thanks to Dopeytegui since January and before.

The combination of two stupids in conjunction has caused our present problem.

I wish Lopetegui what he deserves, nothing. He has proved time and time again his inabilty to improve a team. If it were not for Sevilla having the best squad in its history he would have won zero.

Some fans been chanting Castro out! :scream:

Well… honestly everyone deserves to be out at this point. This season is ruined anyway… I don’t think Sampaoli will be able to turn it around completely, but hoping for the best.

Also we are at least going to have fun watching some good football, though it might take a while for the players to switch off from the Lope-ball mindset.

I think the majority of this has been mental. We have the players to finish in a European spot, and it’s still early enough in the season to go on a run.

It took the confirmation of Lopetegui leaving to see us fight for a whole half. This team has what it takes. It needs proper direction.

I’ll settle for top 10 this season playing better football. It’s a long process and we need to be patient. Hopefully if we can get away from the relegation zone and start playing better football we can build on that next season. Vamos!

Fortunately we are still fairly early in the season and there’s time to turn things around. I think top half would be respectable from here and push on next season.

Of course I’d like to think we could sneak in a Conference League/EL spot but we’ve got to be realistic. Sampaoli will need time to stamp his style on the squad and will need January reinforcements as the squad we have currently won’t be enough for him.

At least tonight we showed more offensive intent and that with the right mentality we do have the players to be performing a lot better than what we’ve seen thus far this season.

The defence definitely needs sorting, although I wonder whether Sampaoli is the right man for that :joy: It’s bound to be fun, that’s for sure. I’ll take that right now.

I agree. The best bet is for maybe sneaking the top 8 or 7 to get in conference league but I’d be happy with top 10 and better football to start.

Yeah it’s going to be tough but probably right now our best approach is to try out score opponents from the start. Our defence is weaker so we should just trust our attack and try out score teams and Sampaoli is definitely the coach for that. He takes risks and is a passionate man.

I’m not sure if it will work a 2nd time but I really hope it does. He’s a great coach and fun guy. Let’s hope he can pull it off and also important is the Sevilla board learn from their mistakes and pull their socks up ASAP.

Started to watch the game, fell asleep before we even conceded, woke up with a Lope-Free Sevilla. Happy life.

Sorry to say it but Navas is no longer good enough in defence , from where I was sitting he was at fault for both the 1st 2 goals, he was getting skinned every time they attacked down our right, he just lacks the speed of yesteryear.
Thought Kike Salas had a good game after his shocker last weekend, he made some great last gasp tackles and was not afraid to get stuck in.
What happened for their 4th though? our whole defence went missing.

Sampo already in Sevilla this morning
The only way is up as they say.
Vamos mi Sevilla.
