I guess we need a kick in the teeth to play well. Second half was immense. The same spirit we had at last season’s UEFA campaign. Keep it coming boys.
This is hands down the weirdest match of the season so far, even worse on that aspect than the Bilbao game. An extremely different Sevilla after the 2-1 goal, even with a red card.
The positives: team’s fighting spirit and character, an amazing remuntada, and Rakitic is finally starting to fight for the shirt (hope I won’t jinx it and this is not a one-off).
YEN with a wonderful brace and I think perhaps we could make use of both YEN and De Jong in a 4-4-2 formation. Wouldn’t hurt to try after all.
A shame that Navas got a red, but he needs a rest anyway. It will be a bit tricky to replace him as Vidal is not registered for UCL, but Kounde and Ocampos can cover that space vs. Krasnodar next match. I hope we’ll have Navas back vs. Chelsea.
Acuna = IMMENSE. What a player he’s turning out to be, amazing. It makes us miss Reguilon less now, however, we are still missing Banega dearly… I am sometimes daydreaming during the matches on what we would do with Banega on the pitch… oh man.
The biggest mistake tonight was starting Vaclik.
There’s absolutely nothing I’ve seen from Ocampos that suggests he is uniquely a wing player. Obviously he has some virtues there, but in reality he’s an attacker from right to left, in almost all attacking circumstances. He has scored LDJ type headers and leaves him behind for pace.
The goalkeeper should never declare his position before the kick, he should decide his position but keep moving left to right before the kick is taken. That way, the shooter can’t decide beforehand where to put the ball and as he approaches the ball he’s distracted by the goalkeeper movement.
Diego Carlos was also amazing, sent the ball to right flank with precision everytime.
On one position he kicked the ball from our sixth yard all the way to Krasnador keeper without taking one step backwards…That is what I call muscle power.
Didn’t expect a ten men come back from Lope!
Now carry this spirit to the league please.
Overnight shift so missed the match, was expecting either a bore 1-0 win or loss but not this. To come back from 2 goals down and then win with 10 men is pretty crazy in itself. Juventus and Man U will grab the headlines for simply playing but this could be one of the matches of the current campaign.
Glad that Rakitic could finally get something going in the midfield and YEN scoring, Navas finally getting a rest though not in the way we envisioned and Oscar being available to influence the match for more than 30 minutes. No idea if Navas would be suspended for 1 or more matches but getting a positive result away to Krasnodar would be a major boost to qualifying this group.
Next up home to Osasuna then the international break again, getting a win to end this rut would send the players to the break on a high, best would be to get Ocampos firing again. Noted that Lope is willing to make changes early in the game to though I hope pullling Jordan off at 60’ was to save him for the league.
Oh and Vaclik was atrocious, defended him at times last season but this is unacceptable, dude shouldn’t be starting in games let alone the champions league.
Great comeback by the team. It looked very bleak at 0-2 down and down to 10. Rakitic and YEN played awesome. That’s encouraging as they both struggled early on and haven’t been at their best. This will give both players more confidence.
It’s a big win and giant stride into getting through the group. We now need to arrest the slide in the league and get a win in next home match. Vamos Sevilla!
Happy with the come back, just nice to see a win after our little little.
I do agree Vaclik should have done much better and not a huge fan at all. I’m a member of the goal keeping union but I just can’t defend him at all. You don’t leave that much of one side open. Watching it back he seemed to paranoid about being beaten to his right, so much so he left a present to his left.
We got away with it tonight, Will be an Intresting re match in Russia that’s for sure.
The TV are actually wondering if Villarreal will be able to play their game
tonight, it’s amazing the things they say to keep people watching a blank screen. Notice how they have the artificial crowd in place, without umbrellas.
[Edit] They intend to go ahead if they can clear the water by 10:00p.m. and they’ve got some great devices for pushing the water off. If not, they’ll play tomorrow morning. Great to see decisive action and information, I remember a Sevilla Barca game being postponed and they left us in the stadium till midnight before announcing the postponement. We drove home through a foot of water.
That was a shit load of water that dropped today. How was the weather in Sevilla?
haha and you still loved it!
The weather was OK, forecast 4 days of rain and it didn’t happen, but somewhere between Sevilla and Cordoba a virtual MOAB dropped in the countryside yesterday.
We’ve had Autumn rains for 2 years running after ten years without, as a result the water table is high and the trees haven’t dropped their leaves. So Sevilla is looking very fine indeed at the moment.
Rained the whole damn time last November when we came.
