A random rumor from years ago that I really thought might happen and could have been good: Portu. Obviously not legend status, but would have been a welcome addition at the time

Arda Guler - linked before Real Madrid came in for him. Could’ve been the new Suso, but with more dynamism. Having a young, potential superstar for a season would’ve been a boost for the fans and finances if we could’ve had him for a season or two.

Hatem Ben Arfa — this move was supposed to happen during Sampaoli’s takeover, but Unai Emery got in the way and brought him to PSG. His career was never the same.
On the other hand, if that transfer went thru, i don’t think we would have seen Samir Nasri, who was one of the most talented #10s i ever seen. Nasri came in on a loan deal from a very expensive Man City contract. So it was nearly impossible that we would have kept him if things never went south with him.
