Mendilibar out - Diego Alonso in

Looks like he stays if they dont announce anything tonight.

Even though last 4 years have been a painful road and the internal situation a cause and an overall mess.

The idea to look for something fresh and go for the Diego Alonso choice (mostly of Orta) I do applaud the attempt. I still hate the moment and should have been done in preseason. But it’s symbolic of all our previous choices last years. Now, Mendi might have done a bit better with the group, and results would be better yet likely the difference in promise for the future would be very negligible.

Diego is partly guilty and I don’t understand some of his choices but I am more disappointed in how there is not much more evolving from the decent start and the ideas he said to have. Just seems like we are on a road bound to reach a dead end. He seems very rigid in his approach.

Orta is forced to fire him soon anyway, because he said the results are the only crucial argument for the firing of Mendi in 11 games (2w-5d-4l). With Diego Alonso now being at (2w-5d-5l), without those unimpressive two wins against semi profs and amateurs it just looks unsalvageable. There is not much to defend him for besides, his passion, as was said before.

I think RC Lens will be his downfall and we continue our headless road trip, looking for some direction as we go…

Remember this from Castro to Nido jnr when Alonso first arrived?

It appears the result of the lens game with decide his fate. If he wins and we qualify for Europa league he might hang on or if we lose or draw that might be it.

It is quite a quick turnaround for Tuesdays game so maybe that’s why no decision yet.

After the lens game if we out of Europe completely lost will be surprised if he’s still there for Getafe but you never know with this club!

Yeah, a ‘united’ board doubting you before you even started that was something special.

It is that is was Castro, who should be doubted before anything.

Apparently the idea is not to keep changing coaches in short term. Why do I get the feeling he stays regardless of the result tomorrow night?

its a massive risk, but weve seen it work out brilliantly for other teams

mikel arteta for arsenal started with some pretty bad results, not as bad as our situation of course, but the board kept backing him and now they contend for the trophy consistently

i think something like this can happen, but im not sure if diego alonso is the coach to do it…

then again we havent seen a lot of him. i feel like i would be with the board if he ends up staying. he gets to bring in players he wants in january and maybe help bolster our league position if all goes to plan

as mentioned b4, we have looked good in some moments of games, but overall we are inconsistent. if alonso stays, we’re going to have to trust that he can make it happen, or we really really are in big trouble

This is true. I mean I feel he hasn’t had that long and the situation isn’t really his fault.

He probably does deserve a bit longer to see what he can do. We have tried and looked okay in spells. The problem is we don’t do it for 90 minutes, his subs are questionable at times, we dodgy at back and wasteful up front.

He probably does deserve some more time it’s just the pressure is huge right now.

You are right that other managers like Artera looked bad early on but they backed him and it came good. However, their board and direction of club was much more solid and positive than us.

I’m sort of happy either way. I can understand sacking him and I understand not sacking him. The results have been bad and performance not good enough overall. However, on flip side it will be hard to attract a good coach to come here so is it worth changing again?

We will see.

Would love to bring in Diego Martínez, recently fired from Olympiacos. Was in our system from '09-'17 and had a decent run with Granada. Didn’t seem to have the best result with Olympiacos, but they seem to have problems other than coaching (kind of like we do).

If we were to stick with our system guys, I would like this move. Otherwise, I’d like to go the complete opposite direction to have another refresh with someone new and outside our systems. Someone like Julen Guerrero, if he’s willing.

Exactly how I feel as well. He definitely deserved at least a full season at the club and constantly moving around coaches isn’t gonna help the team at all

Rumours flying around that the directorship are saying Alonso has 3 games left to save himself. Bad results against Getafe, Granada & Atletico and he’s out.
